Federal gov't allocates over RM858 mln for Pahang road infrastructure projects
KUANTAN: The Federal Government has allocated more than RM858 million under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for Pahang to implement road infrastructure projects.
State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Razali Kassim said the funds were channelled through the Ministry of Works to implement two road upgrading projects involving allocations of RM100 million and RM124.82 million.
He added that RM320 million was also channelled through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development for five other projects, including the upgrading of Jalan Pos Sinderut in Lipis.
'All these projects are at the Public Works Department design stage,' he said when winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.
On healthcare, Razali said RM28.98 million has been allocated for 40 dilapidated clinics in the state, involving 12 demolish-and-rebuild projects and 28 repair and upgrade works, all of which are underway and expected to be completed by November.
In response to complaints that the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh only has six Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, he said the claim was unfounded, adding that the hospital provides critical care services with 18 ICU beds for adults and 31 Neonatal ICU beds for infants.
Meanwhile, state Welfare, Women and Family Development Committee chairman Datuk Sabariah Saidan said that, as of March, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) has provided monthly financial aid to 30,456 recipients in Pahang.
She said the temporary financial assistance initiative involved an expenditure of over RM14 million and aimed to help individuals or families in need to have a better quality of life.
State Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff said the state government planned to establish another Seladang Conservation Centre at Jalan Bukit Rengit, Lanchang.
'The Wildlife Department is in the process of applying for funding under the 13MP for the project. If approved, there will be two seladang conservation centres in Pahang, strengthening ex-situ conservation efforts,' he said.
He added that the state government would also continue with phase 6 of the Pahang People's Housing programme this year, with a total of 470 housing units to be developed at a value of RM36 million.

Kota Kinabalu: Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh urged the Federal Government to review its current policy requiring foreign workers to return to their home countries for six months after a year of employment, describing it as counterproductive and disruptive to industries. He said foreign workers are vital to sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture, and the policy could unintentionally impact both productivity and workers' welfare. However, requiring them to return home after just one year poses challenges — not only for the workers who may struggle to find short-term employment in their countries but also for industries that depend on a stable and consistent workforce,' he said in a statement. 'To maintain our economic growth, particularly our target of over five per cent annually, it is essential that labour policies are practical and aligned with the realities on the ground,' he said. He expressed concern that the six-month return policy has led to unintended consequences, including large numbers of workers being stranded in border towns such as Nunukan in Kalimantan, Indonesia. 'Reports have shown that some of these workers, once returned, lack access to proper shelter or employment, highlighting the need for a more humane and structured approach,' he said. Harris added that while Malaysia positions itself as a proponent of human rights and Islamic values, it is important that domestic policies reflect these principles in practice. GRS focused on serving Sabah, not rushing into election alliances

KOTA KINABALU (June 5): Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is in no rush to seek new partners ahead of the upcoming state elections, said its executive secretary, Datuk Mohamed Razali Mohamed Razi. Razali noted that the coalition remains committed to the existing GRS-Pakatan Harapan (PH) Plus alliance, as advised by the GRS chairman. 'Whether others like it or not, we are not rushing to look for partners. Our focus right now is on delivering service to the rakyat,' he said. 'We are not fantasizing. We walk the talk – it's very simple. Ultimately, it is the rakyat who will decide. What matters is resolving the people's issues. 'We are not trying to be media darlings. We aim to be champions for the rakyat and do what's best for the people of Sabah,' he added. Razali, who is also the secretary-general of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) and Darau chief, made the remarks during a Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration in Darau on Thursday. He was responding to recent comments by Umno Kota Kinabalu division chief Musliati Moslimin, who denied the possibility of Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) cooperating with GRS or Gagasan Rakyat in the 17th Sabah state election. Musliati said GRS had 'betrayed' Umno's trust, despite the party's past support, including backing Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as Chief Minister for the sake of state stability. Commenting on the possibility of working with Umno-BN in the future, Razali said, 'We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.' He also highlighted that the post-2020 state government was formed through a coalition of parties — including Bersatu, PBS, STAR and Umno-BN — in response to the people's call for change. 'We're not clinging to past glories. We're moving forward because Sabahans want something new. Political landscapes evolve, and we must adapt to the rakyat's aspirations. 'While others may focus on social media rhetoric, we are focused on real work,' he said. During the Aidiladha event, approximately 10,000 kelupis were distributed to residents of the Darau constituency. Razali said about 200 individuals helped make the event a success, reflecting strong camaraderie among party leaders and grassroots members.
