'Shut up b**ch': Sophie Cunningham lashes out at fan who insulted sister Lindsey after Fever win
Sophie Cunningham, a member of the Indiana Fever, voiced her frustration after an Indiana Fever fan assaulted her sister, Lindsey after Lindsey made a reference to the WNBA refs.
During the August 18, 2025, game, Indiana Fever won, 99-93, against the Connecticut Sun in Indianapolis, Indiana. During their match up, Cunningham appeared to have a lower leg collision, where Cunningham seemed to be in some pain after contact with Sun guard Bria Hartley. Her sister and mom were publicly frustrated over the league's officiating online, prompting backlash from one fan in particular.
Sophie Cunningham defends sister Lindsey and criticizes fan response
After the match, Sophie Cunningham's sister Lindsey posted on social media, criticizing the WNBA for poor officiating that she said endangered players.
She tweeted,
'@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on poor officiating & more on hiring officials that protect your athletes. Pathetic.'
Their mother, Paula Cunningham, also criticized Hartley's play, calling her
'plain mean and playing out of control'
in a now-deleted X post.
A fan replied to Lindsey's post by sharing a clip of Sophie committing a foul and wrote,
'Protect athletes shut up b****.'
Sophie did not stay silent and fired back with a tweet that read,
'…some of us were raised by the words of 'don't bite off more than you can chew' and some of us didn't.
'fafo'.'
Sophie's response made it clear she would defend her family against online attacks.

Sophie Cunningham injured during Fever victory against Connecticut Sun
While playing on August 18, Sophie Cunningham was playing some help defense under the basket and Bria Hartley came barreling into her lower right leg while passing the ball.
Sophie Cunningham grabbed her leg in pain but wanted to continue playing to try and finish the game until team staff brought her to the locker room. The Fever ruled her out for the rest of the game.
Earlier in the match, Sophie Cunningham had already received a technical foul during a tie-up with Leila Lacan.
Despite the injury, Sophie Cunningham's performance this season has been important for the Fever, especially while star Caitlin Clark has been absent.
Fans have noticed her growing presence on the court and off it, and the recent social media exchange shows Cunningham defending both her family and herself.

Asia Cup: 'Sanju's place is under threat' - Shubman Gill's inclusion leaves Samson in an unchartered territory
Sanju Samson Shubman Gill 's selection as vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE has sparked discussions about Sanju Samson 's position in India's T20 team, despite his inclusion in the squad. The order in which selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar announced the team has led to speculation about the final playing XI, with Gill possibly opening alongside Abhishek Sharma in India's first match against Oman. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar's announcement sequence, naming Gill and Jitesh Sharma before Samson and Rinku Singh, has fueled speculation about team composition. This has raised questions about Samson's role, despite his recent success as an opener. India Asia Cup squad: Why Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill are biggest talking points The batting order appears likely to feature Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel from positions three to seven. This arrangement leaves limited opportunities for Samson at the top order. Former India spinner R Ashwin has made a scathing attack on Team India's management for picking Shubman Gill in the side. "They are thinking of Shubman Gill as the leader for the future. Maybe he can be the all-format captain. But it is not necessary to have the same captain in all formats,' Ashwin said on his YouTube channel "Ash Ki Baat." Poll Who do you think should open the batting for India against Oman? "The captain-coach will take the call on the best balance for the team. Once we get to Dubai, we will have a bit more clarity. With more options available now, Shubman has been in great form for the last few months. So has Sanju, so two good options, along with Abhishek," he stated.
