Autogate system disruption at KLIA not due to cyberattack
He explained that the issue likely stemmed from a disruption in data integration between the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) and the security database of an international enforcement agency, slowing down cross-checking procedures.
'So far, we have not detected any indication of a cyberattack. Let us carry out a thorough investigation to determine the actual cause,' he said during a press conference at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
Mohd Shuhaily confirmed that all affected autogates for foreign visitors are now fully operational. He apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that preventive measures are being taken to avoid future disruptions.
The system malfunction, which began last Friday and lasted until yesterday evening, caused congestion at major entry points, including KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, as well as the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complexes at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) in Johor.
To manage the situation, AKPS activated all manual counters and deployed additional personnel to ease visitor flow. - Bernama

Batik Air To Launch Direct Flights Between Kuala Lumpur And Palembang
Subscribe to our FREE Batik Air is excited to announce the upcoming launch of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Palembang, marking another milestone in the airline's continued expansion across Indonesia. Scheduled to commence on 12 September 2025, the new service will further strengthen air connectivity between Malaysia and Indonesia, while enhancing Kuala Lumpur International Airport's role as a key gateway for Umrah and international travel. This new route brings Palembang, the South Sumatra's capital and one of Indonesia's most historically significant cities into Batik Air's growing network, which already includes Jakarta, Bali, Batam, Surabaya, Medan, Lombok and Pekanbaru. The Kuala Lumpur–Palembang service will be operated with Batik Air B737-800 aircraft, offering both Economy and Business Class cabins. Batik Air Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, said Indonesia continues to be one of the strongest markets, and the airline is pleased to bring Palembang into its expanding network. 'This new route reflects our ongoing efforts to connect more cities across the archipelago directly to Kuala Lumpur, offering travellers greater flexibility, convenience, and access to global destinations. Kuala Lumpur International Airport is developing into a leading hub for Umrah and international travel, and we're proud to support this growth by adding more strategic gateways like Palembang to our network,' he added. Palembang is among the oldest cities in Southeast Asia, with a rich heritage tracing back to the Srivijaya Empire. Set along the iconic Musi River, the city is renowned for its historic Ampera Bridge, charming floating markets, traditional songket weaving, and culinary specialities such as pempek, a beloved South Sumatran fishcake. While steeped in cultural heritage, Palembang is also an emerging industrial and economic centre, making it a dual-purpose destination for both leisure and business travellers. For Malaysian and international passengers flying through KLIA, the new route offers an exciting opportunity to explore a lesser-known Indonesian gem. Meanwhile, travellers from Palembang and surrounding areas now have a convenient and comfortable option to reach Kuala Lumpur and beyond. With KLIA already serving as Batik Air's primary Umrah hub, this route adds a valuable connection for Indonesian Muslims embarking on pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia. In 2024, Batik Air carried over 120,000 Umrah-bound passengers including from across Indonesia, a number expected to increase further with new direct services like this. With each new route, Batik Air continues to bridge communities, cultures, and countries, bringing Southeast Asia closer together and elevating Kuala Lumpur's standing as a key regional aviation hub. Half of KLIA 2's autogates down with technical glitch, autogates elsewhere unaffected
JOHOR BARU: Long queues have been reported at the KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 arrival hall after a technical glitch caused at least half of its automatic gate system to crash since late Wednesday (July 23). It is learnt that at press time, additional Immigration officers have been deployed to clear the arriving airline passengers via manual counters. Security sources said that KLIA 2 has a total of 10 autogates at the arrival hall and another 10 at departure. However, the source said that the autogates at KLIA 1, totalling about 100 units, were functioning properly. 'So far Malaysian passport holders seem to be able to use the autogates while foreigners are having problems,' the source said, adding that the problem now was mainly at KLIA 2 and the other autogates nationwide were operational. The latest incident comes just days after the July 18 incident when more than 200 autogates nationwide were down for more than 24 hours affecting more than 500,000 foreigners. More than half of those affected were from Johor mainly at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ complex (KSAB) at the Second Link. Last week's nationwide autogate glitch was due to a technical issue related to integration between the MyIMMS system database and the database of an international authoritative body. Meanwhile checks in Johor Baru showed that at all the autogates, totalling 39 units for exit and 29 for entry at BSI while KSAB's 12 were all in operation. Since June 1, 2024, visitors from 63 countries, as well as diplomats serving in Malaysia and their family members, have been eligible to use the autogates for faster clearance.
