SEPANG, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Patriotic and traditional tunes, accompanied by captivating cultural performances, filled Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 today during the PENTARAMA MERDEKA@KLIA programme organised by the Information Department (JAPEN).
The programme, held in collaboration with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), was organised in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 (HKHM 2025), with a focus on showcasing patriotism through casual performances.
PENTARAMA MERDEKA@KLIA also featured cultural dance performances and an interactive session with visitors, including a patriotism-themed quiz.
JAPEN director-general Julina Johan said hosting the programme at the country's main gateway allowed both locals and foreign visitors to experience Malaysian culture and witness the spirit of patriotism among its people.
'The approach this time is quite different. We are not only presenting patriotic songs but also highlighting Malaysia's cultural elements.
'We have (traditional) songs from Pahang, Perak and Perlis…we are giving them a new lease of life as we want to introduce them to visitors at KLIA Terminal 1,' she told Bernama here today.
Also present were KLIA Terminal 1 operations general manager Abdul Hasman Abdul Muhimim and JAPEN Communications and Community Development Service Division director Muhammad Najmi Mustapha.
Julina said PENTARAMA MERDEKA@KLIA also served as a platform to showcase Malaysia's identity and national spirit to the world.

Beloved Chinese climber killed by falling rocks on K2
A CHINESE climber renowned among her peers for her warmth and friendliness, as well as her handstand antics on a recent expedition, has died, Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported. Guan Jing, 38, from Hunan province was struck by falling rocks while descending K2, the second highest mountain in the world, in the Pakistan-China region on Tuesday. The report stated that Pakistani authorities were searching for the remains of the victim despite facing bad weather. It also said her mountain climbing peers had confirmed the tragedy. Guan, who was a yoga practitioner, had reached the K2 summit along with a group of climbers and sherpas from China, United States, Romania, Nepal and Pakistan the day before her death. In May last year, Guan stunned the world when she made a handstand for 20 seconds at the summit of the world's highest mountain – Mount Everest – after completing her ascent. Reports said historical records since 1953 showed that no one had succeeded doing such antics at the summit. > Sin Chew Daily reported that Malaysian singer Firdhaus Farmizi has been nominated for three songs in the Best Local Chinese Song category of the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) 2024 awards. This means that the 26-year-old Johor-born singer has a two-third probability of winning the award. There are only five songs nominated for the category, namely Eternal Friendship, Imperfection and Divorce In Ghana by Firdhaus as well as Beyond The Stars by Uriah See and The Ideal Adult In Our Heart by Brian Chew and Tan Yin Ern. The above article is compiled from the vernacular newspapers (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil dailies). As such, stories are grouped according to the respective language/medium. Pesona Anggerik at Gardens by the Bay marks 60 years of Malaysia-Singapore ties
SINGAPORE (Bernama): More than 600 orchids will be showcased amidst a vibrant tapestry of Malaysian architecture, intricate handicrafts, and traditional attire at Singapore's Gardens by the Bay until Sept 7, in celebration of 60 years of Malaysia-Singapore diplomatic ties. Presented in collaboration with the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore, Pesona Anggerik: Truly Asia Orchids features over 15 genera of orchids, along with authentic crafts and artefacts such as Kelantan's moon kite, Pahang textiles, Sabah's woven baskets and tribal headwear, and Sarawak's traditional Orang Ulu attire. Gardens by the Bay chief executive officer Felix Loh said one of the highlights includes the lady's slipper orchid (Paphiopedilum Maudiae), a hybrid descended from species native to northern Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, known for its distinctive slipper-shaped pouch. "Treasured for its mottled foliage and striking green or burgundy blooms, it reflects the richness of Malaysia's botanical heritage. "Equally precious are the traditional crafts and artefacts sourced by the Malaysian High Commission from across the country, which add cultural depth to this display,' he said at the launch on Friday. High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar, said the event commemorates the strong and enduring relationship between the two neighbouring countries, which have stood side by side through times of change and challenge. "Our cooperation extends from trade and infrastructure to security, tourism, education, and environmental sustainability. Our shared vision must be one of enduring friendship, mutual prosperity, and a brighter future for all our people,' he said. The Pesona Anggerik: Truly Asia Orchids is located at the Mediterranean Garden in the Flower Dome section of the Gardens by the Bay and open from 9am to 9pm during the display period. -- Bernama

98 Bangladeshis denied entry into Malaysia at KLIA in AKPS screening
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 98 Bangladeshis were denied entry into Malaysia during a screening operation at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today. The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) conducted the operation from 1 am to 7.30 am at Terminal 1's International Arrival Hall. Out of 181 foreign visitors inspected, 98 failed to meet entry requirements and were issued Not To Land (NTL) notices. 'Those involved arrived from Dhaka, Bangladesh, on an early morning flight, likely to avoid stricter daytime checks,' said AKPS. Fake hotel bookings, missing return tickets, and insufficient financial proof were key reasons for refusal. AKPS stated that the visitors were suspected of planning to misuse entry facilities for illegal work and stay. The operation aims to strengthen national security and border sovereignty. 'AKPS will continue tightening entry controls with stricter monitoring to prevent fraud,' the agency added. The agency warned of strict action against anyone involved in illegal entry schemes. - Bernama
