Fantastic Four beats Superman with $218,000,000 box office win
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has soared onto the big screen with an almighty bang, toppling Superman at the box office.
The Marvel movie, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, was released in cinemas on July 25, and has already seen huge numbers.
According to reports, the flick earned around $218million in the opening weekend alone, raking in $100m internationally.
Deadline reports that the overseas debut beat James Gunn's Superman by 11% – and has had the biggest superhero opening this year so far in the UK, Italy, France, Spain and Mexico.
As well as this, the new awesome foursome also landed a higher Rotten Tomatoes score with both critics and fans, at 87% and 93% respectively.
In comparison, David Corenswet's stint as the titular hero was met with an industry ranking of 83%, and 91% from viewers.
Fantastic Four was set in a retro-futuristic world in the 1960s, with Pedro leading the gang as Mr Fantastic alongside the Invisible Woman (Vanessa), the Human Torch (Joseph) and the Thing (Ebon).
Following a cosmic accident, they gained extraordinary powers and set about protecting the world from other harmful forces.
However, they found themselves going up against villains Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), who were hell-bent on destroying Earth.
Without spoiling the fate of the family, a mid-credits scene teased Doctor Doom's future role – marking Robert Downey Jr's surprise return to the MCU.
Although his face was obscured in the footage, Vanessa confirmed that it was definitely RDJ on set.

‘We lost £250,000 minutes into new ITV show – but we can't complain'
Warning: spoilers ahead for the first episode of The Fortune Hotel series 2. It's never ideal being the first contestants to be eliminated on a primetime gameshow. However, that's the reality that friends and cleaning business partners Chelsey and Briony faced when they embarked on the adventure of competing in ITV's The Fortune Hotel series 2. The second season of the show, which is hosted by Stephen Mangan, launched tonight, with 11 pairs making their way to a hotel in the Caribbean with the aim of checking in and getting their hands on a briefcase containing a £250,000 fortune. Sadly, Chelsey and Briony were eliminated before they even had the chance to enter the hotel, as other players were quicker to figure out a cryptic crossword that informed them where they needed to go. Thankfully, they're still in good spirits about the experience. 'It weren't all bad. We can't really complain. We had an all-inclusive holiday in an absolutely stunning place that not many people would see with your best friend. We got to do things on the island,' Chelsey, who was 34 at the time of filming, tells Metro. 'It was surreal, once in a lifetime.' Then we went visiting waterfalls, and the sea… The experience looking back on it was fantastic.' At the start of episode one, the competing pairs have to fill out a crossword that, when solved, tells them that they need to head to the reception desk of the hotel. The first batch of couples who reach the correct answer and get to the hotel are safe to scheme another day – but the others are all at risk of being eliminated right away. They each choose a briefcase to open, one of which contains the devastating 'early checkout card'. Briony and Chelsey decided to select briefcase number two, as it's both their favourite number. Unfortunately, they had selected the poisoned chalice. 'Unfortunately, our lucky number just wasn't lucky,' Briony quips. Even though the friends were in the show for a very short amount of time, they still left a big impression with their energetic personalities, racing towards Stephen on the beach after they arrived by boat. Host Stephen Mangan gives Metro the lowdown on what to expect in The Fortune Hotel series two… which he promises will have even more shocks than before. 'It was exciting the first time around because it was a show that had never been done before,' Stephen tells us about the first series. 'Sometimes these shows are formats that they've tried in other countries and have been a hit, so they know how they work. But we were inventing a brand new game, which is exciting and terrifying at the same time.' So what's in store for the second outing? 'More surprises, more challenges, more epic things happening,' he promises. The host adds that if he were a player on the game, he'd be more 'ruthless' than fans might expect. Tom Holland films for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on streets of Glasgow
Spider-Man has been spotted swinging through the streets of don't worry, he hasn't taken a wrong turn on his way to New York – the city has been transformed into the Big Apple for filming of the brand-new Spider-Man movie, called Brand New were spinning in excitement as they spotted yellow New York-style taxis, American police cars, and even a tank (yes – a tank!) rumbling past shops and businesses. Spidey actor Tom Holland was seen in action, stood on vehicles and attached to wires. Parts of the city centre have been made to look like New York City as filming there is set to last until 15 Tom Holland was also showing off his brand new spider suit – teased just last week. But it wasn't just Tom doing the heroics – a stunt double was seen actually swinging between buildings using wires and a giant crane-like (don't worry, fake ones!) lit up the streets, adding to the marvel-lous movie magic. Crowds of people have gathered to catch a glimpse of the action, with lots of kids enjoying the excitement on their summer holidays. Some even wore their own Spidey masks and costumes and even had the chance to meet Tom Holland between scenes. Glasgow has also been used as New York for other films - for example Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny - and the city has also featured as the DC Comics version of NYC, Gotham City, in The Flash and The if grown ups driving in the city start to feel their spidey-sense tingling, it's probably just the traffic - as filming means more than fifty Glasgow roads will be closed for at least two weeks.
