States urged to promote energy efficient electrical appliances
Vijayawada: World Environment Day, celebrated globally on June 5 each year, presents a vital opportunity to promote awareness and action on pressing environmental issues. In 2025, The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under Ministry of Power calls upon all State Designated Agencies (SDAs) across India to commemorate the forthcoming World Environment Day 5 the June 2025 with a focused emphasis on energy efficiency, energy conservation, and the broader objectives of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which was launched by the Union government. In this connection Milind Deore, the Secretary BEE has addressed a letter to all SDAs of all States. He mentioned in the letter that Mission LiFE advocates for responsible consumption, climate-positive actions, and sustainable lifestyles. Proactive SDAs of States including AP SECM, Energy department of Andhra Pradesh are urged to undertake the following key initiatives: Promote the use of 5-Star Rated Energy-Efficient Appliances, especially air conditioners, refrigerators, and ceiling fans, which significantly reduce electricity consumption and costs.
Actively campaign for maintaining air conditioner settings at 24°C or higher, as part of BEE's ongoing energy efficiency drive in commercial and residential sectors. Encourage behaviour-based energy-saving practices such as: Switching off lights and appliances when not in use Maximising the use of natural light and ventilation and shifting to LED lighting other energy-efficient alternatives. Conduct public awareness drives on choosing energy-efficient products certified by BEE's Star Labelling Programme. BEE also recommends advocating the use of: Solar water heaters and cookers to reduce dependence on conventional fuels. CNG/electric vehicles and bicycles for short distances. As for as Andhra Pradesh was concerned apart from several places Vizag, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajahmundry cities are having vast potentiality due to considerable consumer base and population for accelerating Energy Efficiency. An Action Taken Report detailing the World Environment Day activities should be submitted to BEE within one week of the event.

NMC to reduce plastic use through World Environment Day initiatives
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced a series of initiatives aimed at reducing plastic usage and promoting environmental awareness. On World Environment Day , the civic body will organise an awareness rally based on the theme "Ending Plastic Pollution Globally." The rally will begin at Santra Market and proceed through Cotton Market Square, Lohapul, Sitabuldi Main Road, Variety Square, and conclude at Munje Square. The municipal administration has urged citizens to participate enthusiastically in this initiative. The NMC will also undertake a citywide tree plantation drive under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0'. According to officials, various departments of the municipal corporation will carry out tree planting in all ten zones of the city. Key areas include Gorewada, municipal gardens, schools, and open grounds. After Haryana success, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' to grow deep roots across India
Gurgaon: Haryana is set to embark on the second phase of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' after the resounding success of the campaign, which had been launched on World Environment Day last year. 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' will be launched nationwide on Thursday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , with an ambitious target of planting 10 crore trees across India. As the city grapples with rising temperatures and shrinking green cover, 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' offers a hopeful reminder: Every act of remembrance can also be an act of renewal. From banyan trees planted for grandmothers to flowering gulmohars for mothers who loved colour, each sapling carries a handwritten tag with a name and a message of love. Volunteers have also pledged to care for the trees, ensuring they grow into lasting symbols of gratitude. In the previous phase, Haryana was assigned a target of 1.6 crore plantations but exceeded expectations by planting 1.8 crore saplings, showcasing its strong commitment to environmental sustainability. This year, the state is preparing a comprehensive action plan to scale up the initiative. The focus will be on expanding participation by involving schools, residential welfare associations (RWAs) and corporate offices. Haryana's principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Vineet Kumar Garg told TOI, "All land-owning departments, students, RWAs and corporates will be told to participate in the programme. This time the slogan is: Whole govt and whole society. This means that govt and society need to come together for this drive. In the first phase, 51 departments in Haryana along with civil society carried out the plantation of 1.87 crore saplings. "
