After three months of release, the harrowing U.K. limited series continues to dominate Netflix's most popular English-language shows of all time. Adolescence now ranks at No. 2, dethroning Stranger Things 4, which debuted in 2022. The only Netflix original TV show that has received higher views throughout history is Wednesday Season 1, also from 2022. Interestingly enough, Wednesday, Adolescence, and Stranger Things all tell stories about troubled teens.
Some of the other original programs that Adolescence soared past in recent weeks include Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Bridgerton Season 1, The Queen's Gambit, Bridgerton Season 3, The Night Agent Season 1, Fool Me Once, and Stranger Things 3.
Here is the current most popular list:
Wednesday: Season 1 (2022) — 252.1 million views
Adolescence: Limited Series (2025) — 141.2 million views
Stranger Things 4 (2022) — 140.7 minutes views
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story: Limited Series (2022) — 115.6 million views
Bridgerton: Season 1 (2020) — 113.3 million views
The Queen's Gambit: Limited Series (2020) — 112.8 million views
Bridgerton: Season 3 (2024) — 106.0 million views
The Night Agent: Season 1 (2023) — 98.2 million views
Fool Me Once: Limited Series (2024) — 98.2 million views
Stranger Things 3 (2019) — 94.8 million views
Adolescence is a four-episode crime drama co-created and -written by Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire) and Jack Thorne. Graham also stars as Eddie Miller, the father of 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), who is arrested for allegedly stabbing a classmate to death. Each episode is directed by Philip Barantini and filmed in a single take as viewers learn more about Jamie's crime from the viewpoints of the police, his psychiatrist, and his family.
The program premiered on March 13 with a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90 score on Metacritic. It drew 24.3 million views in its first four days of availability to debut at No. 1 on the Netflix English TV charts, and also reached the top spot in 71 countries.
In Week 2, Adolescence continued to rise as word-of-mouth took control and people started comparing it to another British limited series, Baby Reindeer. In Week 3, it topped the English TV charts once more with an additional 30.4 million views, reaching the top 10 in all 93 countries the top 10 is available. In Week 4, the program became the fourth most-watched Netflix original TV show of all time in the English language. And in Week 5, it entered the top three.
"It's saving lives ... that feels quite special," Cooper told Gold Derby about the success of the program. "Adolescence is teaching kids not to do that," the teenager added, referring to toxic social media behaviors. To that end, U.K. schools will begin screening the series for students.
According to Gold Derby's Emmy odds, Adolescence is now out front to win Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actor for Cooper, and Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress for Erin Doherty as the child psychologist. Graham is in second place for Best Movie/Limited Actor, behind only Colin Farrell (The Penguin). Other cast members looking to score Emmy bids include Ashley Walters as the detective inspector, and Christine Tremarco as Jamie's mother.

Netflix's ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch' Brings Sam Fisher Out of Retirement
Fans of stealth video games likely have a soft spot in their hearts for Splinter Cell. Ubisoft's sub-series of stealth-action games endorsed by Tom Clancy has been MIA for over a decade, even with a remake of the original game on the horizon. After doing guest roles in other Clancy games and in Netflix's Far Cry anime, series lead Sam Fisher is back in all his shadowy glory in Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. Developed by John Wick alum Derek Kolstad, the animated series sees Fisher—voiced by Liev Schreiber rather than longtime game actor Michael Ironside—as a field commander for the covert Fourth Echelon unit. Like in the games, Sam is assigned to stop a threat to global security: in this case, the mission is 'personal.' Splinter Cell: Deathwatch deploys on Netflix October 14. Want more io9 news? Multiple water rescues follow a series of drownings and other emergencies
SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (PIX11) — Police, beach patrol officers, lifeguards, and EMTs spent Tuesday evening in the surf both in Seaside Heights and neighboring Lavallette helping to rescue at least two people in distress in rough surf, and searching for one other missing swimmer. The incidents were the latest in a string of drownings, near-drownings, and water rescues in the New York-New Jersey coastal region since Sunday. More Local News The situation is raising concerns for coastal towns as temperatures continue to rise in the region, and more and more people head to the beach seeking relief from the hot weather. There's also a tropical storm out in the Atlantic that's expected to intensify an already volatile rip current condition along the coast. On Tuesday evening, the massive response on the Seaside Heights Beach near Webster Avenue happened after beachgoers saw a swimmer who'd ventured about well beyond the breakers after lifeguards' shifts ended at 5:00 p.m. 'We saw his hands go up,' said Jay Rivera, who'd alerted police about the danger. He said that the swimmer went underwater, 'and we didn't see him come back up.' The search continued Tuesday evening, exactly 24 hours after another emergency in the exact same location. On Monday evening, a 31-year-old man drowned after being pulled out into a rip current with a group of four other people at around 6:30 p.m on Monday. Person dies after getting caught in rip current in NJ: Official In that case, a police beach patrol spotted the group in distress. 'We were quick,' said Police Chief Thomas Boyd. 'If we weren't there within two minutes, there would have been five lives lost. One 16-year-old took on a lot of water. We almost lost him, but he made it.' That drowning happened hours after a 77-year-old woman drowned off Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn. She has been identified as Liudmila Marchenko. Both drownings were the latest in a string of more than half a dozen water emergencies. There was a water rescue off Great Kills Beach, Staten Island, on Monday; another water rescue in Rockland Lake, NY, on Sunday; a drowning in Sea Bright, NJ, on Sunday; a water rescue in Smithtown, Long Island, on Sunday; and a near-drowning in Wantaugh on Sunday. Chief Boyd said that the way to reduce the number of incidents is simple. 'It's just common sense,' he said in an interview. 'If there's no lifeguard there, don't swim. Don't swim.' Meanwhile, the mayor of Seaside Heights, Tony Vaz, said that his town is stepping up its efforts to make sure that beachgoers follow important, potentially lifesaving rules, including not going into the water above their knees after lifeguards end their shifts. More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State Among measures that the town is taking, Vaz said, is that warning signs for swimmers that are currently posted in English are also being printed in Spanish. 'Plus, the chief has authorized his officers,' Vaz said, regarding interaction with beachgoers, 'if they are belligerent about getting out of the water, we'll issue them a ticket. And if they're belligerent afterward, they'll be arrested.' He also said that his town is among many down the Shore that are bracing for the effects of Tropical Storm Erin. No matter what it brings, he said, the same rules always apply: it's safest to stay out of the water unless a lifeguard is there on duty. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
