Decoding Anne Hathaway's Iconic Outfits From The Devil Wears Prada As Sequel Begins Production

NDTV4 days ago
Anne Hathaway's and Meryl Streep's first look from The Devil Wears Prada 2 went viral and has fans buzzing with excitement. As the OG team of The Devil Wears Prada reunite nearly two decades later, nostalgia is running high, especially for the fashion statements that made the original 2006 film a hit in everybody's style files.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call the movie a runway of its own, especially what comes after Andy Sachs' (Anne Hathaway's character) dramatic fashion transformation, or the parade of Chanel, Valentino, and Dolce & Gabbana back to back.
Andy's Blue Sweater That Leads To The Fashion Makeover
Who can forget Andy Sachs's blue "cerulean" sweater she wore on her first day at Runway magazine as the second assistant to the magazine's Editor-in-Chief, Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep's character)?
Miranda takes a chance with hiring Andy as her second assistant, who was different from the other women who applied for the job. When Runway's art director, Nigel, makes her realise how she needs to step up her fashion game to be good at her job, Andy completely transforms, and then we see some of the most groundbreaking and iconic outfits.
Andy's Fashion Transformation And Her Best Looks
The All-Black Runway Ensemble
This is the turning point in Andy Sachs's life at work. The big moment has Anne Hathaway in a chic outfit with a glamorous business chic jacket, skirt, and thigh-high Chanel boots, making everyone's jaws drop.
The Montage Outfits
The first look in the movie's montage scene demonstrates Andy's fashion transformation. This look is all about the knee-length green coat with cheetah print accents around the wrists and collar. Did you know Anne Hathaway even bought the outfit after the movie?
The bedazzled orange pom-pom beanie with a black coat comes next, followed by a simple white coat with a plaid beret and matching accessories, which steals the game.
The last look from the montage that even causes Miranda to stop and stare is the all-black ensemble with gold Chanel jewelry.
The Charity Benefit Dress
By the time we see Andy attend the charity benefit hosted by Runway, she has already learned how to make a statement with her outfits. We see her wearing a sleek, floor-length dress that gives complete red-carpet vibes.
The Paris Fashion Week Gown
Impressed by her efforts and work, Miranda Priestly chooses Andy over her first assistant Emily Charlton (played by Emily Blunt) to take to Paris. She wears a dark green vintage dress in the final scene, which shows how Andy has learned a lot about fashion and gives viewers inspiration to recreate her looks.

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway Were 15 Minutes Away From Manhattan Tower Where Gunman Killed 4

Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were filming The Devil Wears Prada 2 near a deadly mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan. Gunman Shane Tamura killed four before dying by suicide. Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were shooting scenes for The Devil Wears Prada 2 just 15 minutes away from the Midtown Manhattan skyscraper where a deadly mass shooting took place on Monday. The cast was working at 1221 Avenue of the Americas and had wrapped filming at least three hours before gunman Shane Devon Tamura entered 345 Park Avenue, opened fire, and killed four people before dying by suicide. Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs are filming their upcoming comedy drama The Devil Wears Prada 2. As Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway reprise their iconic roles in the second instalment of the movie, directed by David Frankel, they have already been spotted shooting on location in New York City. The horror unfolded just a few blocks away. A man who killed four people, then committed suicide in a New York skyscraper, may have been targeting the NFL offices there because he blamed the American football league for brain injuries he said he suffered, Mayor Eric Adams said on Tuesday. The revelation that the killer, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, carried a note referring to the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), offered the first possible motive for the shootings that brought central Manhattan to a standstill. The attacker shot a police officer outside the tower on Park Avenue, then opened fire in the lobby, before trying to head up to the National Football League's offices, armed with a semi-automatic rifle. 'The note said that he felt he had CTE, a known brain injury for those who participated in contact sports. He appeared to have blamed the NFL for his injury," Adams told CBS News. Tamura had never actually played for the professional league but was reportedly a high school football standout in California. The note asked that his brain be examined for CTE damage, The New York Times reported. The bloodshed sparked a massive police response in the heart of the city which is not far from where a disgruntled gunman had shot and killed the CEO of UnitedHealthcare in broad daylight last December. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Tamura had a history of mental health issues. President Donald Trump on Tuesday called the mass shooting a 'senseless act of violence" carried out by a 'lunatic". view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 21:37 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway Narrowly Miss Manhattan Shooting That Killed 4

As gunmen Shane Devon Tamura went on a shooting spree in Manhattan on Monday, targeting a 44-storey skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue, actresses Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway had joined Stanley Tucci to film the Devil Wears Prada sequel just minutes away from the building, per a report by Daily Mail. The Academy Award winning actresses were shooting 15-minutes away, at 1221 Avenue of the Americas from the midtown Manhattan building where the tragedy had taken place. Although the cast members were working on the same day of the shooting, they had wrapped up their shooting at least three hours before the gunman began mass shooting. Four people, including a police officer, were killed during the mass shooting. In a recent development, Tamura, reportedly left a suicide note claiming that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and pleaded for his brain to be examined. According to CNN, the note stated: "Terry Long football gave me CTE, and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze. You can't go against the NFL; they'll squash you. Study my brain, please. I'm sorry. Tell Rick I'm sorry for everything." The short note had been written over three pages and was later found by the investigators. Terry Long was a footballer who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was diagnosed with CTE and died by suicide after drinking antifreeze in 2005. The NFL offices were located on the fifth floor of the office tower. The building houses some of the country's top financial firms, including private equity giant Blackstone, and KPMG. He was armed with a long rifle, wore a bullet-resistant vest, and was seen walking into the 44-story Manhattan office building. He was licensed to carry the weapon in Nevada. While on the 33rd floor, Tamura killed himself by shooting himself in the chest. He opened fire inside the Park Avenue skyscraper, which is just blocks away from Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Centre, and the Museum of Modern Art. The deadly shooting in New York today was the 254th mass shooting in the US this year, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit that tracks gun-related violence.

Have Miranda and Nigel made up? Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci spotted filming Devil Wears Prada 2 in NYC

From the looks of it, before we walk into the theatres next year in May, we should, voluntarily or not, have a fairly rough idea or our very own version of what The Devil Wears Prada sequel will look like. As a fellow fan pointed out in one of the many comment sections, "wow its so nice to already see the whole movie through reels". Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci spotted on the sets of The Devil Wears Prada sequel in New York City At a time when film industries both on home ground and abroad have gone into complete silence and dearth of information as a marketing tactic to create hype for the film, The Devil Wears Prada seems to be sprinting in the other direction. Not a day goes by when we don't have a brand new set of photos or leaks from the sets, ever since the film went into production earlier this month. Now usually, an overload of such information can cause social media fatigue, and will more often than not, backfire. But that's where the sequel's marketing team needs a round of applause. How exactly they're managing to make every round of new photos as exciting as the last, is beyond us — but we say keep them coming! After just Anne Hathaway's Andy Sachs was found flitting through the streets of New York in business casz, it was Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly who completely upstaged her in office couture. Then came a snap of them both mid-shoot, in-character, twinning, also fanning a host of questions — did Andy go back to Miranda? Have they kissed and made up? Did Andy (PLEASE) hold onto her fashion girlie image? So many unanswered questions! Now while we thought we've already seen all that we needed to, there's a bit more to go. While we knew in addition to Meryl, Anne and Emily Blunt returning to reprise their roles, Stanley Tucci too would come back as Nigel, seeing him, right there on set next to we mean Meryl, feels surreal for sure. Dressed crisply as he always does, the nostalgia really hits hard with these shots. Besides the OGs, the sequel will also feature the likes of Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak and Pauline Chalamet in undisclosed roles. Among the disclosed lot we have Kenneth Branagh, set to play Miranda's husband, and Patrick Brammall, roped in to play Andy's boyfriend. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is eyeing a May Day release next year.
