Headmasters must innovate to meet education challenges: CM

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said headmasters must innovate and rise to modern challenges as key drivers of school leadership in this era of digital transformation and evolving education. In a speech delivered by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan at the 29th Education Convention and Malaysia Headmasters Association 3rd Delegates General Assembly at SICC here on Wednesday, Hajiji described headmasters as the foundation of the education system.
Advertisement He said the convention provided an important platform to exchange ideas and strategies for improving school-level education through strong leadership and effective management. Hajiji emphasised the role of headmasters in shaping the next generation and said their collaboration through conventions like this could help improve education quality nationwide. He also recognised the Malaysian Headmasters' Association for its continued efforts in championing professionalism among primary school leaders. The Chief Minister added that the State Government had spent RM848.26 million on various education assistance from 2021 to 2024 to ensure equal access to quality education across Sabah. 72 Sabah dilapidated school upgrades completed

One project worth RM12.6 million is in the design stage and another worth RM54 million is at the procurement stage, bringing the total to nearly RM1 billion. During a visit to SMK Pinggan-Pinggan in Pitas, Ahmad said all works are via open tender to ensure timely or early completion. The RM27 million SMK Pinggan-Pinggan project, 78pc complete, includes two hostel blocks, warden houses, a dining hall for 400 students, and support facilities. The new hostel, to be completed in December 2025, will replace one located 1.3km away, which forces students to walk along busy roads without pedestrian paths. Ahmad said it will improve safety, reduce absenteeism, and provide better living conditions. RM13.66 million for preservation of Sabah cultural and arts heritage

TAWAU (Aug 2): The State Government has allocated RM13.66 million for this year to ensure Sabah's cultural and arts heritage continues to be preserved, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor. 'The State Government will continue to intensify efforts to improve the preservation of cultural heritage to further drive and strengthen the tourism industry in the state,' he said at the Tawau International Cultural Festival (FKAT). State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Haji Mohd Arifin Datuk Haji Mohd Arif delivered his speech. Held at the Tawau Municipal Council Square on Saturday night, the event was graced by Head of State Tun Musa Aman and his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin. 'I am confident that this festival will be one of those that brings significant impact to the tourism sector and the local economy. The influx of domestic and international tourists during this festival is not only an opportunity to appreciate our cultural treasures but also brings economic spillovers to all indirectly involved. 'They include entrepreneurs, homestay operators, artists and small traders, thereby contributing to the economic growth of the local community. 'This festival also serves as the medium to educate the younger generation about the importance of protecting and valuing our priceless cultural heritage,' he said. The Chief Minister said that the construction of the Tawau International Cultural Centre (TICC), scheduled for completion in December 2027, will undoubtedly become a cultural hub and a key stage for the convergence of various ethnicities' arts and heritage once completed. 'This will, in turn, elevate Tawau as a competitive international cultural centre,' he said. In line with the theme 'Cultural Diversity: Warriors, Handicrafts and Marriage,' the FKAT is a manifestation of the beauty and uniqueness of Sabah's multiracial society, he said. The Chief Minister said this festival is not only a space for cultural exhibition but it is also a platform for interaction between communities from various backgrounds, including participants from Kazakhstan, Indonesia and the Philippines. 'It further strengthens Tawau's role as a border town rich in cultural networks and regional cooperation. 'Therefore, this festival serves as a platform to strengthen interracial unity, raise awareness of cultural diversity, and foster respect and appreciation for the heritage of our ancestors,' he said.

1,200 B40 youths in Sabah receive free motorcycle licences

PENAMPANG (Aug 2): A total of 1,200 school students, public higher education students and youths from the B40 income group in Sabah have benefitted from the MyLesen B2 Program for 2025. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said the initiative, jointly implemented by the state and federal governments, aims to assist B40 individuals — particularly school and university students — by covering the full cost of obtaining a Class B2 motorcycle driving license (for motorcycles not exceeding 250cc). 'This is proof of strong cooperation between the federal and state governments, through the Road Transport Department (RTD) under Budget 2025. Nationally, the program targets 15,000 beneficiaries from underprivileged groups,' said Hajiji. His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya during the Sabah State-Level MyLesen Class B2 Driving License Presentation Ceremony 2025 at ITCC Penampang on Saturday. Also present were RTD Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli and Sabah RTD Director Datuk Haji Mohd Harris Ali. Hajiji said the program enables beneficiaries to ride legally and safely, promoting mobility that enhances access to jobs, education and economic opportunities — especially in rural communities. 'This initiative supports the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda and the state's poverty eradication and social mobility goals. With continued expansion, it can ease financial burdens and open more doors for Sabah's youth,' he said. Meanwhile, Aedy Fadly noted that the program began in February 2025 in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic and five driving institutes. He said the initiative not only offers free legal driving access but also promotes road safety awareness and builds a generation of responsible road users. 'I urge all recipients to make good use of this opportunity, obey road laws, and drive safely. This is both a facility and a trust,' he added.
