Kota Kinabalu: The State Government continues to prioritise educational development by allocating RM1.33 billion for various educational programmes and initiatives from 2021 to 2025. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said RM848.26 million has been spent on various educational assistance, while RM485 million is specifically allocated for human capital development. He said from 2021 to 2025, 14 new initiatives worth RM164.14 million have benefited approximately 210,918 students across the State. 'Academic excellence is not just an individual success but a crucial asset for the country. The State Government is committed to ensuring that no child in Sabah is left behind in accessing quality education,' he said at the Sabah Education Department's 13th Academic Excellence Recognition Ceremony (Mekar) held at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). His speech was delivered by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif. Additionally, Hajiji said the State Government has also established the Sabah Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council on May 19 this year in the effort to coordinate over 160 technical and vocational training institutions throughout the State, in line with future labour market needs. He said the State Government also provides cash incentive of RM1,000 to 146 outstanding STPM 2024 students, while one Sabahan student who excelled at the national level also received cash incentive of RM3,000 as a token of appreciation. Hajiji emphasised the importance of close cooperation between the State and Federal Government through the Education Ministry to enhance the quality and infrastructure of education in Sabah. 'The State Government is always open to discussions to strengthen human capital development. Education remains a key passport to the future of our children,' he stressed. Advertisement Hajiji said under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan, 14 new initiatives worth RM164.14 million have been introduced over the past five years, benefitting over 210,000 students. Among the key programmes are Institute Registration Cash Assistance (Budi), the Graduan Rindu Sabah (GRS-Subfly) initiative, and Sentosa (contributions for students in local higher learning institutions). 'These initiatives reflect our resolve to build an inclusive, progressive and sustainable education system,' Hajiji said. He emphasised the role of headmasters in steering school leadership in the digital era, adding that their quality and effectiveness are critical to educational reform and success. 'This convention is a platform to share experiences and ideas to improve school leadership. Let us continue working together to nurture a future generation that is excellent and distinguished,' he said. Hajiji also expressed appreciation for the Malaysian Headmasters' Association's role in promoting professionalism and strengthening primary education leadership nationwide. 'Let us uphold the teaching profession and empower our youths through collective effort,' he added.

Fourteen new initiatives worth RM164.14 million benefited over 210,000 students. The Sabah TVET Council, launched in May 2025, now oversees 160 technical institutions. For social wellbeing, RM1.49 billion was disbursed to 336,076 recipients, and the SMJ Friendly Homes Initiative has delivered or is building 7,482 homes. The Syukur programme supports 100,000 low-income households with RM300 monthly. In health, 100 haemodialysis machines worth RM4.5 million were distributed, with RM4 million more in treatment subsidies. The 'Program Homeward' has helped 1,169 people so far. Sabah is also expanding conservation areas, with 2 million hectares of land under Totally Protected Areas and a goal of 2.2 million hectares by 2025.
