BRS, Jagruthi are KCR's two eyes, says Kavitha
HYDERABAD: BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi founder K Kavitha condemned the Commission of Inquiry on Kaleshwaram's notice to former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). Inaugurating a new Jagruthi office near her residence in Banjara Hills on Saturday, she performed a special puja with her husband Anil Kumar and addressed the media, starting with the slogans: 'Jai Telangana, Jai KCR, Jai Jagruthi.' No BRS flags were seen during the inauguration of the office.
'BRS is KCR's one eye and Telangana Jagruthi is the other,' said Kavitha during the inauguration. She warned against attempts to malign him. Announcing a massive protest at Indira Park on June 4, she said engineers and irrigation experts will join to expose the Congress' 'conspiracy' against Telangana.
She criticised the Ghose Commission as a 'Congress Commission' and questioned summoning KCR, who implemented schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima and KCR Kits. She argued that summoning him was akin to summoning the people of Telangana.
Targeting CM A Revanth Reddy, the BRS MLC accused him of not honouring Telangana martyrs and demanded he participate in the June 2 State Formation Day celebrations. She questioned the naming of the 'Rajiv Yuva Vikasam' scheme and asked why it wasn't named after Telangana figures like Srikanth Chari, Yadi Reddy, or PV Narasimha Rao.
Kavitha also demanded action over Andhra's alleged 200 TMC water diversion and criticised Revanth's meeting with the PM without raising BC reservation issues. She called for 42% BC reservation before local body elections.
Praising Telangana Jagruthi's role since 2006, Kavitha highlighted achievements like the official celebration of Sevalal Jayanthi and installation of Dr Ambedkar's statue.
Meanwhile, Kavitha announced the expansion of Jagruthi across all communities — SC, ST, BC, minorities, Adivasis, Sikhs and Christians — to fight for their rights.

Telangana govt mulls raising retirement age of staff to tide over financial crunch
Hyderabad: The Congress govt is seriously considering raising the retirement age of state employees by three to four years from the current 61. This would provide a much-needed relief to the govt as it will not have to pay nearly Rs 5,000 crore in a lump sum as retirement benefits to 10,000 employees retiring in 2025. Another 9,000 employees will superannuate in 2026. Also, the govt is yet to pay Rs 5,000 crore owed to 9,700 employees who retired in 2024. The retirement age of state staff was last raised from 58 to 61 by then chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS govt in 2021. In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, it is 62 years. The issue came up during a review meeting by chief minister A Revanth Reddy with ministers on Sunday where the demands of govt employees' joint action committee (JAC) was also discussed. The JAC has submitted its demands to the three-member IAS officers' committee headed by Navin Mittal, which, in turn, submitted its recommendations to the cabinet sub-committee headed by deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka. Sources said that while some ministers suggested increasing the retirement age by two more years, others proposed four years to make it 65. Bhatti was also present at the meeting. The previous BRS govt had faced severe criticism from unemployed youth who had blamed it for lost job opportunities due to the retirement age enhancement. Also, if the retirement age is indeed raised, the Congress govt will have to grapple with another issue – keep such employees at current pay scales or allow increments every year. A JAC leader told TOI that pending bills of govt employees and pensioners have mounted to over Rs 10,000 crore, including retirement benefits, and another Rs 5,000 crore would be required by end of this year. "Enhancing retirement age by just one or two years would not help the govt. It has to be at least three to four years. The average retirement benefits of each employee comes to anywhere between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh. Many who retired in 2024 are still waiting for their retirement benefits. The govt has to take a decision soon," said the JAC leader. The cabinet meeting on June 5 will also discuss whether to release one or two of the five pending Dearness Allowance of govt employees. The cabinet is expected to give approval for revision of medical treatment rates that were fixed in 2015-16. The govt is also likely to approve non-financial demands of the JAC such as general transfers, sources said.

Telangana officer's remarks on involving students in cleaning toilets spark row
A controversy has erupted in Telangana over the alleged remarks of a senior official of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) regarding students' involvement in cleaning activities. The opposition BRS has demanded the official's removal, while the National Commission for Scheduled Castes sought details on the matter. The commission on May 31 issued notices to the Telangana Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, seeking a report within 15 days concerning the alleged derogatory remarks made by the IAS officer against SC students in the institutions. However, TGSWREIS Secretary V S Alagu Varsini clarified that 'this is about life skills, not labour.' A purported audio clip of the officer 'instructing' principals at a recent review meeting to involve students in cleaning toilets, hostel rooms, as well as cooking meals has gone viral, drawing sharp criticism from the BRS. BRS MLC K Kavitha has said that each social welfare school had received ₹40,000 per month during her party's regime for hiring four temporary workers for cleaning tasks. "This has been stopped by the Congress government starting May this year," she said. In a recent post on 'X', Kavitha said, "The government has also done away with having assistant caretakers in the 240 schools, forcing the students to take up the role of wardens and manage kitchens. Now the officer is Forcing children to clean toilets in schools !!" The BRS leader called the behaviour "discriminatory, exploitative" and said it "violates basic principles of child rights and dignity". I demand the government to immediately take steps to remove the officer and start giving the required funds to run the social welfare schools properly," Kavitha said. The IAS officer, however, refuted the allegations and said they were just an activity to "tarnish" the government. She emphasised that all the sanitation staff remain employed. "Leaders like Gandhi and Ambedkar emphasized personal hygiene and dignity of work. Our students call me 'Amma.' I treat them as my own children. Asking them to be responsible for their surroundings is about nurturing future-ready citizens, not exploiting them,' Varsini said. The official also denounced the selective editing of her two-hour speech into "misleading" four-minute audio clips now circulating on social media. In her clarification, the official expressed pain at being reduced to a caste tag in political narratives. 'I come from a BC farming family. I have climbed each step through sheer perseverance. It's heartbreaking when caste becomes a tool to diminish merit,' she said. She added that while majority of the residential students are from the scheduled castes, BCs, STs, and minority students are equally part of the system. 'I treat them all with the same care. Don't colour our children with your political brush,' a release quoted her as saying.

Kavitha acting on directions of BJP: TPCC
Hyderabad: TPCC campaign committee chairman Madhu Yaskhi Goud on Monday alleged that BRS MLC K Kavitha was acting on the directions of BJP top leadership in New Delhi to protect herself from the Delhi excise scam case. He also demanded an inquiry into the funds received by Telangana Jagruthi in the past 10 years. "Kavitha has started strengthening Telangana Jagruthi to protect corrupt money. She is an arrow released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah," he alleged. "Kavitha has been holding dharnas seeking justice for the BCs and downtrodden sections, but she should tell the people what she has done for them in the last 10 years," Yaskhi Goud demanded. TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy demanded that Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, along with PM Modi, should explain to the people of the country why India agreed to a ceasefire and to hold talks with Pakistan after Operation Sindoor was launched following the Pahalgam terrorist attack sponsored by Pakistan. "Will US President Donald Trump decide whether India should continue its fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism? The BJP leaders should apologise to Rahul Gandhi and answer the queries raised by him on this issue," Jagga Reddy demanded.
