Best homeware alternatives to shop as M&S cyber attack enters fourth day
Marks and Spencer has entered its fourth day of being unable to issue online orders due to a major cyber incident. The popular high-street retailer has faced significant problems since last Friday (26 April), with shoppers still unable to make online purchases from the website and app.
The brand said in a statement: "As part of our proactive management of the incident, we have made the decision to pause taking orders via our UK & Ireland websites and apps and some M&S International-operated websites." The firm previously confirmed it had reported the incident to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
While M&S remains offline, loyal customers are left wondering where to shop for their favourite homeware staples - from stylish bedding and home décor to fancy kitchenware. So, while the website is temporarily down, I'm turning to some of my other favourite homeware brands to scratch the itch.
Scroll down to reveal all the stylish homeware alternatives to browse right now.
Bedding
M&S is well known for its impressive bedding collections, including collaborations with designer Kelly Hoppen, offering stylish and comfortable options at great prices. But there are plenty of high-quality alternatives to explore in the meantime.
Dunelm is one of my top choices for stylish bedding, with a wide selection of duvet sets and bedspreads - from pretty floral prints to classic gingham designs ideal for the warmer months. It's affordable too, with prices starting from £8.
My standout pick is this reversible duvet cover with frilly detailing (£32). It's a pretty spring addition to any bedroom and its clever, reversible design allows shoppers to flip it over for a quick and easy refresh whenever the mood strikes.
Another fantastic option is Dusk. Having tried many Dusk bedding over the years, I can confidently say the brand offers incredible value for money - the bedding remains just as crisp and soft as the day it came out of the packet, washing and ironing beautifully with every use.
Right now, I love this neutral gingham duvet set (reduced to £32 from £75 for a double), which I recently picked up to give my bedroom a seasonal update. It's fresh, classic and effortlessly elevates my space.
Cooking and dining
M&S is a firm favourite for stylish kitchenware - from chic dinner sets to gorgeous glassware and handy kitchen gadgets. If you're missing your M&S kitchen fix, these brands are worth a look.
If shoppers have the budget to play with, Our Place is an excellent brand worth considering. Best known for its cult-favourite Always Pan, Our Place offers beautifully designed kitchen essentials that double up as décor.
Everything is thoughtfully made, with clever multi-use functions and a choice of stunning shades that would look right at home on an open shelf or dining table. I'm a serious fan of everything from the Perfect Pot to its kitchen linens in my home, so Our Place comes seriously recommended from yours truly. It's pricey but worth the money for its quality wares and gorgeous colourways.
Elsewhere, H&M Home offers surprisingly chic kitchen and dining pieces at fantastic prices. Shoppers will find trendy glassware, rustic table runners, and stylish serving bowls, all with a slightly Scandi-cool edge. For instance, I've got my eye on this mango wood chopping board (£22.99), a true kitchen essential and these wooden salad servers, which look much more expensive than their £14.99 price tag suggests.
Furniture
For those who love M&S' blend of timeless style and quality craftsmanship, OKA is a brilliant place to check out. Known for its design-led furniture, OKA pieces are true investment buys that balance classic and contemporary perfectly. Plus, the brand is currently running a huge sale on everything from sofas to wardrobes and side tables.
For anyone looking for a new sofa, Swyft Home is a fantastic option. The firm is known for its fuss-free, modular sofas, which can be delivered fast and assembled without tools.
Swyft's made-to-order sofas come in a wide range of fabrics and colours, from classic neutrals to bold statement shades and its flat-pack delivery system makes it easy to navigate tricky hallways and staircases. My dream pick is the 02 Sofa Bed (£2,299) in a rich green shade.
Home décor and accessories
From its viral check lamp to bobbin mirrors, M&S always nails the balance between classic and contemporary home décor. Thankfully, there are lots of other cute options out there.
Oliver Bonas is ideal for shoppers who love playful, bright home accessories; it's packed with quirky ceramics, bold cushions and eye-catching wall art that can instantly lift a space. It's fab for lighting options. I have my eye on this stripy pendant lamp shade (£25) for an instant pop of colour.
Elsewhere, The White Company is a brilliant go-to for on-trend home accessories with a luxurious feel. Its range is full of neutral tones and an understated, effortless style that M&S fans will love.
Granted, it's a little more expensive, but there are several bits on my wish list already. That includes this beautiful scalloped marble bowl (£45), ideal for holding keys and trinkets, and these seagrass storage baskets (£35) — they'll come in handy for organising my multitude of cosmetics.

Indian shares set to open higher as moderate US inflation spurs global rally
Aug 13 (Reuters) - India's stock benchmarks are likely to open higher, tracking Asian peers after moderate U.S. retail inflation data bolstered the odds of a September rate cut by the Federal Reserve, while easing domestic inflation is also expected to lift sentiment. Gift Nifty futures were trading at 24,629, as of 7:55 a.m. IST on Wednesday, indicating that the Nifty 50 (.NSEI), opens new tab will open above Tuesday's close of 24,487.4. Asian markets rose, with the MSCI Asia ex-Japan index (.MIAPJ0000PUS), opens new tab gaining 0.6%. Wall Street closed higher, with the S&P 500 (.SPX), opens new tab and Nasdaq Composite (.IXIC), opens new tab indexes hitting record peaks after U.S. consumer prices increased marginally in July, up 0.2% month-on-month. The in-line print lifted September Fed rate cut odds to 94% from 86% a day earlier. Lower U.S. rates typically boost the appeal of emerging market equities, including India, as yields on U.S. Treasuries fall. India's retail inflation dropped to an eight-year low of 1.55% in July, slipping below the Reserve Bank of India's 2%-6% band, driven by falling food prices. "While the July print by itself doesn't alter the rate trajectory, sustained low inflation, especially if compounded by downside growth risks from external shocks, would strengthen the case for further easing," said Arsh Mogre, economist at PL Capital. Meanwhile, investors await talks between the U.S. and Russian presidents, scheduled Friday, to discuss a potential resolution to the war in Ukraine. The meeting is being closely watched by Indian market participants after Washington imposed an additional 25% tariff on goods from the country over its Russian oil imports. Positive U.S.-Russia talks could help ease U.S.-India trade tensions, according to multiple analysts. Domestic institutional investors remained net buyers of Indian stocks for 27 straight sessions, purchasing 35.08 billion rupees ($401 million) of stocks on Tuesday. Foreign portfolio investors remained net sellers with outflows of 33.99 billion rupees ($388 million) on Tuesday, according to provisional data from the NSE. ** Apollo Hospitals ( opens new tab posts rise in June quarter profit, aided by higher patient volume, announces plans to double its investment in artificial intelligence capabilities over the next two to three years ** ONGC ( opens new tabreports, opens new tab 1.7% year-on-year drop in consolidated net profit in the June quarter ** Nykaa ( opens new tab posts two-fold rise in quarterly profit on beauty products demand ** Explorer Oil India ( opens new tab logs a sharp drop in first-quarter profit due to softer oil prices ($1 = 87.5800 Indian rupees)

Japan's Nikkei tops 43,000 for first time ever, extends rally to sixth session
TOKYO, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei share average rose above 43,000 for the first time on Wednesday, with the broader Topix index also marking a fresh all-time high, tracking Wall Street's overnight gains and extending the rally into a sixth straight session. The Nikkei (.N225), opens new tab gained as much as 1.4% by 0140 GMT to touch a record 43,309.62 and extend its winning run to 7.5% since August 4. Monday of this week was a national holiday in Japan. The broader Topix (.TOPX), opens new tab advanced 1% to an unprecedented 3,097.94, also rising for the sixth straight session. Overnight, the S&P 500 (.SPX), opens new tab and Nasdaq (.IXIC), opens new tab closed at record highs as a moderate reading of July inflation bolstered bets for a Federal Reserve interest rate cut next month. "A sense of relief is permeating through markets" following the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, leading Japanese stocks "to take a step higher," said Maki Sawada, an equities strategist at Nomura Securities. At the same time, "there are signs that the Nikkei is overheated after its extremely steep rally, and a steep drop at any time wouldn't come as any surprise," she added. The Nikkei's relative strength index (RSI) rose above 75, well beyond the 70 line that many analysts consider indicative of an overheated market. The RSI was at a similar level on July 24, and the Nikkei fell in the following four sessions. A stronger yen exchange rate, after Fed easing expectations hurt the dollar, also limited Japanese stock gains in the latest session, Sawada said. A strong yen reduces the value of overseas revenues at Japan's heavyweight exporters. Of the Nikkei's 225 components, 183 rose, 41 fell and one traded flat. Tech shares stood out, with chipmaker Renesas Electronics (6723.T), opens new tab jumping more than 7%, chip-testing equipment maker Advantest (6857.T), opens new tab rising more than 2% and Sony Group (6758.T), opens new tab gaining 4.6%.

S&P 500, Nasdaq end at record closing highs as moderate inflation lifts rate hopes
NEW YORK, Aug 12 (Reuters) - The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq ended at record closing highs on Tuesday, as news that July inflation rose broadly in line with expectations bolstered bets on a Federal Reserve interest rate cut next month. The Labor Department said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.2% on a monthly basis in July, while annual inflation came in slightly below forecasts, drawing calls from U.S. President Donald Trump to lower interest rates. Yields on shorter-dated Treasury bonds - a reflection of interest rate expectations - slipped and rate futures showed traders are giving an 88.8% chance that the Fed could lower rates by about 25 basis points in September. "The CPI data is supportive for equities overall, getting some good news with the Fed looking more on track to cut in September and potentially more transitory inflation," said Katherine Bordlemay, co-head of client portfolio management, fundamental equities at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. "The first thing I'd guide is continue to lean into the theme of the big are getting bigger. We continue to have conviction around mega-tech and technology." Alphabet (GOOGL.O), opens new tab shares rose as Perplexity made a $34.5 billion cash offer to buy the company's Chrome browser. Intel Corp (INTC.O), opens new tab climbed after Trump said he met its CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, on Monday, praising Tan and calling the meeting "very interesting." Last week, Trump had demanded Tan's immediate resignation, calling him "highly conflicted" over his ties to Chinese firms. According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 (.SPX), opens new tab gained 72.23 points, or 1.13%, to end at 6,445.68 points, while the Nasdaq Composite (.IXIC), opens new tab gained 293.94 points, or 1.37%, to 21,679.34. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI), opens new tab rose 481.05 points, or 1.09%, to 44,456.14. The quality of economic data remains a concern weeks after Trump fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics following downward revisions to previous months' nonfarm payrolls counts. Markets are monitoring developments around Trump's nominee, E.J. Antoni, to the bureau commissioner post and potential candidates for the Fed's top job. "This is still early innings of this process and just as the Fed will be beginning to cut rates in the autumn, that's when the inflation data will probably start to be registering some of these more direct tariff price increases and it's going to complicate the rate-cutting decision," said John Velis, a macro strategist at BNY. Relief came as the U.S. and China extended their tariff truce until November 10, staving off triple-digit duties on each other's goods. U.S. stocks have rallied in recent weeks on the back of strong tech earnings, easing trade tensions, and increased rate cut expectations. Inflows into U.S. stocks last week were the largest in two years, BofA Global Research data showed. The Russell 2000 index (.RUT), opens new tab, tracking small-cap companies (.RUT), opens new tab, also advanced. An index tracking airline stocks (.SPLRCALI), opens new tab surged, putting it on track for its biggest one-day rise in over a month after data showed airfares rose 4% in July. Bank stocks rallied, with the S&P 500 Banks index (.SPXBK), opens new tab up, as analysts said a steepening of the yield curve could help bank earnings as lenders could borrow cheap and lend at a higher rate. Cardinal Health (CAH.N), opens new tab dropped after the drug distributor said it will buy healthcare management firm Solaris for $1.9 billion.
