Jamie Foxx credits daughters for helping him recover from health scare in BET Awards speech
When Jamie Foxx accepted the Ultimate Icon Award at the 2025 BET Awards on Monday, the actor, comedian and singer made sure to shout out his family, including his two daughters, whom he credited for helping him recover from a health scare two years ago.
The 57-year-old teared up during his emotional and lengthy acceptance speech, referencing his life-threatening medical episode in April 2023 and thanking the important people in his life.

"I have to thank my family. I have to thank my sister Deidra [Dixon], who's in the audience right now," Foxx said. "When I went through what I was going through, she shut it down, and she made sure that she took care of her brother. Little Black girl from South Dallas and she does all the hair and makeup on the Marvel films -- that's her."
Foxx also spotlighted both of his daughters, starting with Corinne Fox, 31, who is an actor like her father.
"My beautiful daughter, Corinne. I cannot say enough about you. You've always taken the backseat to everything. But when you needed to drive it, you drove, and you made sure I was here," the proud father said. "And I ain't going to turn down. And I'm not going to stop crying. I got to stop. At a certain point, I'm going to stop crying, but I ain't going to stop just yet."

Foxx then turned to younger daughter Anelise, 16, who enjoys playing the piano and guitar, as he revealed previously .
"When I was fighting for my life in there, I got to say this. They said that 'we're going to lose him because his vitals is bad.' And I didn't want my 14-year-old to see me like that," Foxx said. "But Anelise overheard the conversation and she snuck into my hospital room with her guitar and said, 'I know what my daddy needs.' And then she played the guitar -- my vitals dropped and I realized God was in that guitar, and the nurses ran in and said, 'What did they give him?' And my daughter says, "Shh, I got him.'"
Foxx's family initially released few details about his mysterious condition back in 2023. In a Netflix special released in December 2024, Foxx opened up about what his medical team had told his family and revealed they informed his younger sister that he'd had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.
"I got to be honest. When I saw the [in memoriam], I was like, man, that could have been me," Foxx said in his acceptance speech Monday.
He added, "I don't know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance I'm not going to turn down."

She considered the woman "very insistent" and "very disrespectful towards our marriage." She added that he also kept a ripped up love letter from the woman in a shoebox at their apartment. At one point, Gonzalez went through Johnson's phone and said she found a text from him referring to the woman that read "I want to (expletive) that person." "When I saw that my heart went to the floor. I felt like betrayed and disrespected," she said. "And then I remember calling him and telling him, 'how long has it been that you want to (expletive) this person.' And he was like, 'what are we talking about.'" Johnson denied any infidelity, adding that he would never jeopardize their marriage and said "that's how boys talk," according to Gonzalez. USA TODAY has reached out to Johnson for comment. 'Love is Blind' pair tried marriage counseling Gonzalez said that her husband felt that she had violated their trust and one day called her "stupid and an untrustworthy person." "I don't consider myself a jealous person, unless you give me motives to, once you give me motives to I'll become a detective. I don't care because my gut instinct is so clever. I mean, it never fails me," she said. She added that the two participated in couple's therapy but that she felt it was not working. Gonzalez said other issues included Johnson becoming distant and addicted to the video game "Halo" and him allegedly scolding her in front of his family for cursing too much. Over time, she said his comments "kept making me feel small" and eventually made the decision to end the relationship she once felt showed her the "kind of love that I've never received before." The pair met on Season 5 of the reality dating show on Netflix, in which contestants looking for romance interact via pods designed to keep their appearances a mystery.

David Harbour Is More Than Ready for ‘Stranger Things' to Be Over
David Harbour has been acting professionally for over two decades—he was nominated for a Tony in 2005—but his big break came with Stranger Things. Harbour's portrayal of Sheriff Jim Hopper immediately endeared him to viewers, and over the show's run we've seen Hawkins, Indiana's top cop morph from boozy sad sack to strict but loving dad to supernatural beastie-fighting hero to Siberian prison escapee, plus a little romantic tension with Winona Ryder's character on the side. And since Stranger Things' debut in 2016, Harbour has parlayed his Netflix success to other starring roles; while his Hellboy was a bust, he also created a whole new kind of Santa Claus in the excellent Violent Night and entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Black Widow and Thunderbolts. He's also found success on the DC side too, starring in animated series Creature Commandos. While it doesn't seem like Stranger Things' filming schedule has held him back from adding to his filmography, he's clearly ready for the freedom he'll have once the show has aired its final batch of episodes. His schedule will be more open to new projects, of course, but he'll also be able to put Jim Hopper to bed for good. In an Interview Magazine chat with Scarlett Johansson, his co-star in Black Widow, he sounded grateful but weary. 'When I started I loved it so much. Buddies of mine who'd done TV shows for many years said, 'By season three or four you'll be running.' And I was like, Never! I love all these guys so much,'' he recalled. 'And then you get to a certain point where you're like, 'How much more story is there?' You're having to play a lot of the same beat, and there's a feeling where you're like, 'I want to take a risk. I want to do something that people haven't seen me do before.' So yeah, after 10 years, it's like, 'Okay.'' Later, he elaborated more on what it felt like to be so committed to Jim Hopper, in response to Johansson speaking about being locked into her Marvel character for months at a time and not feeling challenged (or able to change anything about her appearance). 'There'd be certain seasons where you feel like, 'I'm going to go in this different direction.' But … a piece of your psyche is occupied with this group of people and this storyline,' he said. 'I don't paint my nails, but I get that idea of 'I can't get a haircut' or 'I can't shave this freaking mustache.'' One of the post-Stranger Things Harbour projects we're most excited for is the Violent Night sequel, which Variety reported today just got a release date of December 4, 2026. Stranger Things returns November 26 to Netflix for the first four episodes of season five. The rest of the season rolls out December 25 (episodes 5-7) and December 31 (episode 8).

I Took My First Trip To Nashville & Fell In Love With Country Music
I never thought I'd be two-stepping in Nashville with cowboy boots on, singing along to country music, but last weekend, there I was. After spending a few days at CMA Fest with SoFi, let me tell you, I get the hype now. As a native New Yorker, this was my first time in Nashville and my first country music festival. The best part? I got to experience it all with my boyfriend. It was his first time in Nashville too, which made it even more special. He went full rancher mode the moment we landed. I'm talking boots, hats, and attitude. I was calling him 'Cowboy Johnny' all weekend because he was really committed to the role. His cowboy alter ego was activated. Like so many millennial Black folks, I've never been a big country music fan (outside of Shania Twain, obviously) but since Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter (which deserves its own Grammy category, let's be real) which gave us a whole history lesson on the Black roots of country music, I've been dabbling more into the genre. And after Day 1 of CMA Fest, I was like… ohhh, this is kinda fire! There's something about the storytelling, the vocals, the vibes — it just takes you to a place of peace. Going with SoFi made the whole experience even more memorable. I've always known SoFi as the financial company helping people reach their money goals but I didn't realize how much they've expanded into lifestyle spaces. What really stood out to me was how SoFi is bridging financial wellness with culture. Their SoFi Plus membership doesn't just offer banking perks, it includes exclusive invites to VIP events & experiences nationwide, which is how I got the opportunity to attend CMA Fest with them. In addition to perks, they teamed up with country star Kelsea Ballerini to launch their Rising Star Program, offering grants to students and helping the next generation achieve financial independence. It's one thing to talk about empowering people, it's another to put action behind it. As for the music? A vibe. Watching Darius Rucker hit the main stage on Night 1 was surreal. I grew up knowing him from Hootie & The Blowfish, so seeing him take command of a country music festival was a full-circle moment. Black artists have always had a hand in shaping country music, legends like DeFord Bailey and Charley Pride paved the way but we haven't always been centered in the conversation. So to see artists like, Shaboozey, Tiera Kennedy, and Kashus Culpepper take the stage and bring their full selves? That meant something. They're part of a new generation redefining what country music looks and sounds like and I'm so here for it. Oh, and let's not forget the fashion. I knew I couldn't pull up to Nashville without proper fits. I found the cutest denim cowboy boots, paired them with matching hats, layered belts and chains, and added mini bags to complete the fits. I came for the vibes, stayed for the music, and left with a new playlist, a SoFi membership, and memories I'll never forget.
