The Arizona Cardinals responded to a very poor NFL team report card released on Wednesday, one in which they had the lowest grades in the entire NFL. The team released a statement, indicating plans to a new training facility.
Our goal is to provide the best possible environment, facilities and resources and to give our team the greatest opportunity to succeed. We are working hard to achieve that. Last season, we shared with our players the plans for a new training facility at the existing Tempe location with a targeted completion date of 2027. We have hired Rossetti, a leading architecture firm that has worked with a number of NFL teams on their new facilities, and the design process is underway. We will continue to explore all the other ways - large and small - that we can get better in every single area of our operation.
According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, it will cost about $100 million to build it. The plan is to build upon the team's current location in Tempe.
The $100 million price tag is lower than some recently built facilities. According to Cards Wire's Howard Balzer, The Minnesota Vikings opened their current facility in 2018 at a cost of $115 million. The Miami Dolphins' facilities, opened in 2021, cost $135 million, while the new facilities opened last year for the Los Angeles Chargers cost $250 million.
The statement indicates that the team advised the players of the plans, although it is not known whether they knew before or after they submitted their grades to the NFLPA.
A new facility in 2027 likely would not have influenced current grades, other than perhaps the perception of owner Michael Bidwill and his commitment to investing in the players' work environments.
