Denzel Washington Appears to Fight Back Against Pushy Cannes Photographer and Yells ‘Stop!' During Tense Red Carpet Moment

Yahoo20-05-2025

Things seemingly got tense between Denzel Washington and a pushy photographer on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet for Spike Lee's 'Highest 2 Lowest.' The actor headlines the movie, his fifth collaboration with Lee, and appeared at Cannes for the first time since 1993's 'Much Ado About Nothing' brought him to the festival.
Video from the carpet shared by the New York Post sees the two-time Oscar winner pointing his finger at a photographer and shouting at him to 'stop.' As Washington approaches, the photographer is seen trying to laugh off the confrontation and he puts his hands around the actor's arm. Washington pulls himself away and again tells the photographer to stop. The photographers at Cannes are known to be shouty as they vie for stars' attention.

Washington's night rebounded once the 'Highest 2 Lowest' premiere began. The actor was awarded a surprise Honorary Palme d'Or by Lee before the screening started. Cannes festival director Thierry Fremaux also introduced a montage of Washington's films — including 'Malcolm X' and 'Mo Better Blues,' both directed by Lee — as well as his Oscar-winning performances in 'Glory' and 'Training Day.'
'Highest 2 Lowest' got a strong reaction in Cannes. The movie earned a 5.5-minute standing ovation and was praised by Variety's critic Peter Debruge, who wrote in his review: 'It's a film whose sensational third act more than justifies what might have seemed an unnecessary update.'
Directed by Lee, 'Highest 2 Lowest' is an English-language remake of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's 1963 film 'High and Low.' Lee's reimagining is set in modern day New York and stars Washington as a music mogul tied up in a life-or-death ransom plot.
'Highest 2 Lowest' will be released in theaters Aug. 22 and stream on Apple TV+ starting Sept. 5.

Dakota Johnson is serving Princess Diana and we love it!

Dakota Johnson is out here giving us major Princess Diana vibes, and honestly, it's the kind of energy we love to see. While promoting her upcoming romantic film Materialists , Dakota stepped out in New York looking effortlessly stunning in a sheer black dress. And the timing? Let's just say, it couldn't be more iconic. This comes shortly after news broke that she and Coldplay's Chris Martin have ended their relationship after being together for a whopping eight years. Is Dakota Johnson pulling a Diana moment? Walking the streets of NYC on Thursday, Dakota looked like she meant business, but fashionably, of course. Her all-black outfit wasn't just a fashion choice, it felt symbolic. It instantly reminded fans of Princess Diana's famous 'revenge dress,' you know, the one she wore when Prince Charles' affair with Camilla came to light. Diana showed up in a jaw-dropping black number that basically said, 'Your loss, buddy.' Dakota seems to be channelling that same bold, beautiful energy, elegant, composed, and radiating 'I'm doing just fine, thanks' energy. She was all smiles as she waved at fans and paparazzi outside The Greenwich Hotel, dripping in confidence and designer threads before heading off for more press duties. This marks one of Dakota's first big public appearances since her split from Chris Martin. The two had been notoriously private about their romance, which allegedly included a secret engagement at some point. So when news of their breakup surfaced, it took fans by surprise, especially since they were seen looking totally in love at the Cannes Film Festival just a few weeks ago. They were cuddly, cute, and all over each other on the red carpet, not exactly the kind of behaviour you'd expect from a couple on the rocks. While neither Dakota nor Chris has shared the reason behind the split, a source reportedly told PEOPLE that 'this time feels final.' Despite the personal shake-up, Dakota is diving headfirst into work. She's currently promoting Materialists , a much-hyped romantic drama where she stars alongside heartthrobs Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. The film explores a love triangle, and judging by the buzz, fans are in for a wild, emotional ride. Breakups are tough, but if anyone knows how to walk through one with grace and a killer outfit, it's Dakota Johnson.

Theresa Nist fires back at ‘Golden Bachelor' Gerry Turner's claim they divorced over his cancer

Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner's journey came to an end — but not because of his health battle. The reality star who found love with Turner on Season 1 of 'The Golden Bachelor' revealed that the pair 'absolutely' didn't split over his cancer diagnosis. 'It was a zero factor, zero. Absolutely. I was just so surprised that he even said that,' Nist said on Thursday's episode of 'The Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast.' 'I knew about the cancer a long time ago. And the way Gary presented it to me was that, 'The doctor said that I'm going to die of old age before this cancer gets to me.'' Advertisement 5 Theresa Nist speaks about about her marriage to Gerry Turner ending. almost_famouspodcast/Instagram 'He bluffed it off, like it really wasn't that important,' she continued. 'And he had no symptoms, and he still doesn't. So we never had a conversation that said, 'Oh my gosh, you're sick. I can't stay with you now. I have to leave.' That never happened.' Turner and Nist first got engaged at the end of 2023 on the show before saying 'I do' on a TV special in January 2024. But by April of that year, the exes announced in an interview with 'Good Morning America' that they were divorcing. Advertisement 5 Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner. Disney via Getty Images In December 2024, Turner revealed he had been diagnosed with a blood cell cancer, Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, claiming it played into their split. The reality star also noted that he and Nist each wanted to live close to their families in different states. 'When you are hit with that kind of news and the shock wears off after a few days or a few weeks and you regroup and you realize what's important to you, that's where you start to move forward,' Turner told People. 'And I hope that people understand in retrospect now that that had a huge bearing on my decisions and I think probably Theresa's as well.' 'And right before my interview, they contacted me, and they said, 'Hey, we want to talk to you right now, because Gerry just came out and said that his illness was the reason you broke up.' And I go, 'What?' I said, 'No, it wasn't that.' There was zero conversation about that being in it.' Although, at the time, the New Jersey resident felt maybe Turner believed what he was saying. 'If that was the reason, it was in his mind only, never discussed as a reason. He said it was a factor that weighed heavily into my decision. And I would imagine Theresa's, too,' Nist confessed. 'He just imagined. But it had nothing to do with it. Nothing. I would have never left my husband over in illness. I stayed with my husband, Billy. I mean, for years he was sick, and he passed away at home. He was in hospice. I mean, it was really pretty bad. But I would never leave … That's just not me. That wouldn't happen.' 'I really am happy for him,' Nist, who's also dating, stated. 'And if he had to find his person by going this circuitous route, then he did, then it was successful. He found someone that really suits him, and that's wonderful. So I think it worked out the way it was supposed to work out.' In September, the finance whiz made it clear she had no hard feelings toward Turner. 'So Gerry and I have spoken,' Nist exclusively told The Post in September 2024. 'We don't speak regularly. I would say I wish him all the best, and I can see that he has so many friends, and I'm so happy for him that he does.' 5 Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist on their wedding day. Disney 'I truly hope he finds his person,' she added, 'because he wants that, and he deserves that, and I'm rooting for him. I'm in his corner.' At the time, Nist shared what she was looking for in her perfect suitor. Advertisement 'Sense of humor,' she detailed. 'Let's laugh together. Smart. Somebody smart. And then I have to be physically attracted to the person, so there has to be chemistry. And that's something that you can not define, it's undefinable. You just either are attracted to someone, or you're not.' Nist noted, 'It's just the ability to have fun together and to support each other, make each other laugh, and have each other's backs.'

The most daring outfits Dakota Johnson has ever worn, from see-through dresses to mismatched shoes

When it comes to fashion, Dakota Johnson has a chic and seemingly effortless style. However, the "Fifty Shades of Grey" star also regularly experiments with daring looks. She's worn sheer dresses, plunging necklines, mismatched shoes, and more. If you somehow haven't noticed, Dakota Johnson has been everywhere lately. She made multiple appearances at the Cannes Film Festival in May, has since been photographed all over New York City, and has appeared on multiple late-night talk shows this month. The 35-year-old actor has, of course, been promoting her film "Materialists," which she stars in alongside Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. All the while, she's stood out in her signature style: chic, effortless outfits that are also quite bold. Here's a look at the most daring looks she's worn lately, and ones she's donned in the past. Dakota Johnson's bold red-carpet style can be traced back to her 2012 appearance at a GQ party. For the event, she wore a long-sleeved lace top over a black bra and tucked the former into high-waisted leather pants. By 2013, she was already elevating her daring fashion. At the LACMA Art + Film Gala that year, she wore a black Gucci dress with multiple daring elements. It had netted sleeves up top, golden feathers across her chest, and green fringe on her skirt. The actor showed the playful side of her style in 2015. While in New York City, she wore a fuzzy green vest over a tan jumpsuit. And she didn't stop there. Johnson also wore strappy heels and sunglasses that made the casual outfit look dramatic and glam. For the UK premiere of "Fifty Shades of Grey," Johnson wore a striking Saint Laurent gown. She then attended the 2015 Venice Film Festival in a backless, blush-colored gown. The Prada design hugged her body in the front and revealed her tattoos on her back. Johnson embraced sheer fashion again for the 2015 "Trumbo" premiere. She walked the red carpet that night in a black velvet gown with sheer sleeves and matching mesh panels across her waist and legs. Plunging necklines remained a staple of the actor's wardrobe in 2017. At the "Fifty Shades Darker" premiere that year, Johnson arrived in a shapeless Valentino gown with a V-neckline that plunged below her chest. A few weeks later, she went full metallic for the Oscars. Her gold Gucci gown was made from satin. It had a high pleated neckline, long sleeves, and an oversize bow at the waist. She then stood out at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards in a semi-sheer Gucci gown. The skin-revealing design was made from black tulle, Swarovski crystals, and recycled brass. Johnson embraced the "no-shirt" trend at the 2017 Hollywood Film Awards. She wore a vibrant red suit jacket with no shirt underneath, matching trousers, and a diamond choker. Equally daring were her mismatched heels, which had giant crystals on one shoe but not the other. In 2018, the actor put a glamorous twist on the sheer trend at the Venice Film Festival. She later opted for a dramatic gown at the Marrakech Film Festival. Johnson swapped her usual gowns for a bold minidress in 2019. She walked the red carpet at "The Peanut Butter Falcon" screening in a Saint Laurent design. It featured a large bow as a top, a triangle cutout at the chest, and all-over crystal designs. Johnson wore one of her most daring and stunning looks at the 2021 Venice Film Festival. Her silver Gucci gown had a plunging neckline, a see-through bodice and skirt, and crystal fringe. The see-through corset she wore to "The Lost Daughter" premiere was also bold. Johnson paired it with leather pants, pointed pumps, and a diamond necklace. However, she took her daring fashion to another level the next day. While meeting fans in New York City, Johnson was photographed wearing a cream-colored dress with a high slit in its skirt that almost reached her hips. In November 2021, Johnson attended a fashion show in a fringe minidress. Her Gucci frock was held together by sparkling belts strapped across her chest, and matched her Gucci-logo tights. She wore Gucci again in December 2021. The look was even more eye-catching than her last. She wore pink satin pants — they were so wide they resembled a skirt — and a cropped, crystal-covered top that was sleeveless with a deep V-neckline. At the 2022 Met Gala, Johnson wore a see-through catsuit made from black lace. The "naked" design from Gucci was covered with long silver fringe and delicate sparkles. To kick off 2023, Johnson wore her own version of a Canadian tuxedo. The Magda Butrym look included a denim bustier, a matching trench coat, and baggy jeans. She went the opposite direction in May that year. In 2024, Johnson wore the most sheer gown of her career. At the "Madame Web" premiere, Johnson sported a custom chainmail gown from Gucci that sparkled in the light. It was sleeveless, plunged at the neckline, and see-through. Though the gown did appear to have a small lining, it matched the actor's skin tone perfectly and created the illusion that she was only wearing the crystal links. Johnson is still staying loyal to sheer clothes in 2025. In early June, she was photographed walking around New York City in a maroon bodysuit beneath a black tulle dress. The latter had long sleeves, a wrapped neckline, and a flared skirt, making for a classic silhouette. However, it was entirely see-through.
