TYT leads thousands in prayer

Kota Kinabalu: Thousands of people turned up at the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque Thursday night for a special solat hajat, tahlil and prayers for the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, 13, a Form One student, whose death on July 17 captured national attention. The solemn ceremony was also attended by Head of State Tun Musa Aman, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and several State Cabinet ministers, including Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Arif. Also present were State Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M. Yahya, State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, Sabah Mufti Datuk Bungsu @ Aziz Jaafar and State Education Department Director Datuk Taisin Saidin, Attendees began filling up the mosque as early as 5pm, coming from across the capital here and its outskirts. The event began with Maghrib prayers, followed by the solat hajat, recitation of tahlil and special prayers for the deceased, led by the Grand Imam Ustaz Suhaidi Kuanting. During the tahlil, a solemn and emotional atmosphere enveloped the prayer hall. Some attendees were seen in tears as they reflected on the death of the 13-year-old student. At the same time, similar prayers were held at mosques and surau across Sabah, demonstrating the unity of the people in seeking truth and justice. According to the organisers, the purpose of the event was also to pray for the ease of the family's affairs and to help alleviate the trauma experienced by other students. For one worshipper, Mohd Nazrul Abdul Ali, 42, the large turnout from people of all walks of life proved that the community was united in seeking justice for Zara Qairina. Hundreds gather outside Sogo in solidarity for Zara Qairina
KUALA LUMPUR: The bustling area outside the Sogo shopping complex here turned into a centre of solidarity and grief as hundreds gathered to demand justice for Zara Qairina Mahathir. The song "Justice For Zara Qairina" filled the air, followed by chants of "Justice for Zara," as people from all walks of life joined the solidarity rally, which began at 8pm today. Throughout the gathering, police were stationed at the site to ensure safety, and the rally proceeded peacefully. Meanwhile, a similar rally was held at Lintasan Deasoka in Kota Kinabalu, with participants coming from Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, and Peninsular Malaysia to show their support despite drizzling weather. Participants in Kota Kinabalu also carried placards, posters, and banners with messages of solidarity, including "Justice For Zara," as a show of unity in demanding the truth. Police maintained order, and the event remained peaceful. The rally turned particularly sombre when Saimah Alkan, 37, from Tuaran, took the stage. Hugging her daughter tightly, she managed only a few words before tears flowed, evoking a wave of sympathy among the crowd. Deeply affected by the tragedy, Saimah, a mother of a daughter the same age as the late student, appealed to the government to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation to ensure justice is served for Zara Qairina. The incident involving the Form One student has drawn widespread sympathy, with calls for authorities to carry out a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth behind the case. Zara Qairina's death has sparked a wave of public outcry nationwide and also drawn attention from international social media users, who have expressed support online since last week.

MCMC, police tracking TikTok user over over fake Zara Qairina post-mortem claims

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are working to identify a TikTok user who falsely claimed to be a surgeon involved in the post-mortem of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the individual had claimed that he was present during the post-mortem on Aug 10, but checks by the Health Ministry (MoH) confirmed that he was neither a specialist nor an MoH staff member. 'This individual shared various false information during a TikTok live session, creating the impression that his claims were factual. 'Unfortunately, the content went viral and has caused public confusion,' he told reporters after launching the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign for Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya at the Teacher Education Institute (Malay Language Campus) here today. Fahmi said the matter was confirmed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad through an official report from health deputy director-general (Medical) Datuk Dr Nor Azimi Yunus, who obtained verified information from the forensic specialists handling the case. 'The head of the forensic team confirmed the TikTok user was not a forensic specialist and that all information disseminated was false. 'The individual has since set his TikTok account to private, making it difficult for the authorities to contact him,' Fahmi said, reminding the public not to be easily swayed by unverified claims on social media. He cautioned that spreading false information is a serious offence, punishable by a fine of up to RM500,000 if convicted. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17 after being admitted a day earlier. Bukit Aman to record statements from three senior police officers in Zara case

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the department has opened a disciplinary investigation paper (KST) against the district police chief, holding the rank of Superintendent; the district criminal investigation division chief, with the rank of ASP; and an investigating officer, with the rank of Inspector. They are suspected of non-compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the investigation into the case. 'The Bukit Aman JIPS officers will travel there within a day or two to record statements from these three officers. The investigation concerns non-compliance with SOPs in the Zara Qairina case and the supervision of investigating officers,' he said. He said this to reporters after the launch of the book 'Antologi Puisi Makan Suap' at the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, last night. Ayob Khan said strict action would be taken against any investigating officers and supervisors found to have violated the investigation SOPs. Ayob Khan said that, so far, the three senior officers involved are continuing to carry out their duties as usual. Last Wednesday, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar, at a press conference, said that the initial findings of the Bukit Aman Special Task Force investigation found elements of non-compliance with investigation procedures during the early probe into the death of Zara Qairina.
