Edmonton weather: Sunny breaks and breezy; gusty and increasing smoke Saturday
An aerial image of Edmonton's downtown skyline and North Saskatchewan River valley on June 6, 2025. (Cam Wiebe / CTV News Edmonton) Mostly cloudy with a few scattered light showers in the Edmonton region early this morning. We'll get some sunny breaks later in the morning and through the afternoon. Temperatures stayed in the teens through the overnight and we'll get into the low 20s this afternoon. Wind is expected to pick up through the day with gusts around 40 km/h midday and this afternoon. Breezy conditions continue tonight and then the wind picks up even more for Saturday. Northwesterlies at 30 km/h gusting to around 50 km/h will draw some wildfire smoke into the Edmonton area by Saturday afternoon. Based on smoke modelling, we're probably looking at Air Quality Health Index readings in the moderate to high risk range for late Saturday. With the wind easing for Sunday, that smoke could linger over the Edmonton region right through the weekend. The smoke forecast for Monday is less certain. Here's the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - A few showers early this morning. Mix of sun & cloud this afternoon. Wind becoming NW 20 gusting to 40 km/h High: 23 Tonight - Cloudy periods.
