Pacquiao, Barrios make weights for Vegas showdown
The 46-year-old eight-division world champion -- who is returning to the ring after a four-year absence -- weighed in at 146.8 lbs during a packed ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Pacquiao's opponent in Saturday's fight, reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Barrios, was also inside the weight limit at 146.2 lbs.
"I'm so happy I'm back because boxing is my passion and I missed boxing," Pacquiao said after making the weight.
The Filipino star -- whose last victory came against Keith Thurman in 2019 -- is aiming to pull off an upset victory in Saturday's bout.
Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 knockouts) announced his return to boxing in May, taking advantage of a WBC rule that allows former champions to request a direct title shot when coming out of retirement.
He will be facing the much younger Barrios, who will take a 29-2-1 record in Saturday's contest.
Barrios, 30, said he was unfazed by the prospect of taking on living legend Pacquiao, who could become the first fighter to win a major world title after being inducted to boxing's Hall of Fame.
"I'm approaching this the same way I have all my other fights -- I treat it as just another title defense," Barrios said. "Manny has accomplished so much, but it's my time now."

At the end of the day I don't mope about my losses, I move forward and at the end of the day I went out there representing my country,' Lerena told in an exclusive interview. 'The opportunity will come around full 360 again and when it presents itself, we'll have another go. You can't win them all, and sometimes you look good, sometimes you don't look so good, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.' Lerena's Strategic Approach Lerena's previous fight was against Ukrainian Serhiy Radchenko in May in a WBC Bridgerweight bout. It was a clear mismatch as Lerena floored his opponent more than once in a fight which lasted just seconds into the third round before Radchenko's camp threw in the towel. It's not been revealed what Lerena would have earned in that headline fight at 'The Reckoning' at home in Pretoria, but it would likely have not been close to the amount he received for the Okolie fight or his high-profile loss to Daniel Dubois at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in 2022. Without admitting how much the loss will have hindered his career path in what should already be the twilight of his career, Lerena acknowledged how he will have to be careful about who he fights next, and when. 'That's so important, you've got to be smart when the fights are coming up, to take the right fight, but I'm at the point in my career now, it's about making the most monetary and official gains as well as the best fight on the biggest stages," Lerena told 'That's the direction we're heading in.'

World Rugby has announced the next four players will be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2025. This year's inductees will bring the total in the Hall of Fame to 175 since it began in 2006. The contributions of former Wallaby fullback Matthew Burke and England and British and Irish Lions flanker Richard Hill will be celebrated at a special event in Sydney, with two yet-to-be-named female players then inducted during Women's Rugby World Cup 2025 in England, at the Women's Summit on 26 September. South Africa has 13 former players, two ex-Springbok coaches and even a former president in the World Rugby Hall of Fame. By way of comparison, New Zealand has 24 inductees, Australia 20 (including Matthew Burke), England 24 (including Richard Hill) and France 13. Top African female boxers clash for WBC title in Johannesburg
South African female flyweight champion Simangele 'Smash' Hadebe, based in Johannesburg and currently rated number one in Africa by Boxrec, will face undefeated Nigerian boxer Olamiposi Kehinde Solomon. Both fighters will compete for the World Boxing Council (WBC) African female flyweight title in Johannesburg on August 30. Smash's last fight was in July this year, when she lost to Mexican boxer Gabriela Sanchez Bonita at the Zaragoza Olympic Stadium in Mexico, competing for the WBC Silver female flyweight title. During that bout, Smash fought hard, breaking Sanchez's nose with a stiff jab in the first round. She won the first two rounds and cornered Sanchez, showcasing her boxing skills. Smash's manager, Colleen McAusland, noted that Smash will be the first female to fight for the WBC Africa title on African soil. Solomon, currently rated number two by Boxrec, last fought in December 2023. This means both fighters are ready for their upcoming clash.
