Thai man dies in crash after stealing car, bike
SUNGAI PETANI: A Thai man was killed in a collision with a lorry on the Sungai Lalang–Bukit Selambau road, shortly after stealing a car and a motorcycle.
The man, who worked as a helper at a local restaurant, is believed to have begun his ill-fated journey around 6pm on Monday, when he allegedly stole a Perodua Kancil belonging to his employer in Bedong.
"Upon reaching Ambangan Heights, the vehicle was involved in a collision with a Perodua Viva.
"The crash caused engine damage, rendering the car immobile," said Kuala Muda district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan.
"At the scene of the first accident, the man then stole a Honda Wave motorcycle from a passer-by who had stopped to help and fled in the direction of Bukit Selambau."
However, his escape was short-lived. After riding for approximately 10km, the man was involved in another collision—this time with a lorry.
"He died at the scene from severe head and body injuries. He is believed to have been in his 20s," Hanyan added.
Later that evening, police received two separate reports of vehicle theft—one from the employer and another from the motorcycle owner.
"Preliminary investigations have confirmed that the deceased was involved in both thefts. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

On May 28, Thai and Cambodian troops engaged in a brief gunfight in Thailand's north-eastern Ubon Ratchathani province and Cambodia's northern Preah Vihear province, where one Cambodian soldier was reportedly killed. Cambodia has since announced its intention to bring the border dispute to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Policeman killed in motorcycle accident on NSE
IPOH: A police sergeant was killed while on his way home to Kedah after the motorcycle he was riding skidded at Kilometre 253.7 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) northbound near Kuala Kangsar yesterday. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said in the incident at about 7.24 pm, the victim Shamsul Ishak, 58, who was attached to the Special Branch of the Kedah contingent police headquarters sustained injuries to his left rib area. 'Further investigations found that when the victim reached the location of the incident, he was believed to have lost control (of the motorcycle) and veered off, crashing into the metal road divider, causing him to be thrown off. The victim, who was severely injured, was taken by ambulance to Taiping Hospital for further treatment. 'However, he was pronounced dead at around 9.24 pm in the hospital's emergency ward,' he said. He also said the victim was believed to have been on holiday and making his way back home to Alor Setar, Kedah after meeting with his friends across the state. He added that further investigations are still ongoing and the case is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Special Branch officer dies after motorcycle skids on expressway
