Stephon Gilmore was supposed to be one of the best in the league and he
is
. But even he wasn't safe when he first stepped into a New England Patriots team meeting. In an interview on
The Money Down Podcast
, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year dropped a raw, behind-the-scenes moment that made fans do a double take.
Gilmore admitted that during one of his first meetings with the Patriots, Bill Belichick came at him so hard in front of the whole squad that he had to step away just to compose himself.
Bill Belichick ripped into him over a busted play and Gilmore's pride took the hit
Gilmore was fresh to the Patriots, trying to earn respect, and defending during a bunch route. He got picked. And Bill? He let the whole room know about it.
'He killed me one day, bro. It was when I first got there. I was pressed down on the receiver.
It was a bunch route, and I got picked. Bro, he killed me at the next meeting. I almost cried, how he did me. I ain't going to lie to you. I went to the bathroom, like man, bro.'
That's the kind of coaching that either breaks you or builds you. And in Gilmore's case? It was the latter.
From almost crying to never getting picked again, Gilmore turned pain into fuel
The wild part is, Gilmore said that moment was a turning point. After that brutal callout, he never let it happen again.
'I ain't never got picked again after that,'
he said with a little pride.

You know what followed? A legendary run. He locked down receivers, made the Pro Bowl, won Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, and even helped Belichick grab another Super Bowl ring. So yeah, the coach went full savage but Gilmore turned the sting into success.
Gilmore's honesty reveals how greatness sometimes starts with discomfort
Not every player is willing to admit they were pushed to the brink, especially when they're a superstar. But Gilmore opening up like this just shows the human side of what it takes to be elite.
It's not always trophies and headlines, it's embarrassment, resilience, and learning from the moment you wanted to hide. And if you're lucky, a coach like Belichick who'll destroy your ego just enough to rebuild your game.

After his straight-sets victory over compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic on Centre Court, Djokovic was asked about his now-familiar 'Pump It Up' celebration. Her moves - pumping her fists downward, then to the sides, and finally overhead - instantly won over the Wimbledon crowd, which erupted in warm applause. Wimbledon 2025: Aryna Sabalenka pips Emma Raducanu; storms into Rd 4

Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus reacts after winning the first set against Emma Raducanu of Britain during a third round women's singles match at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London, Friday, July 4, 2025. (AP Photo/Kin Cheung) London: Aryna Sabalenka's third round match against Briton Emma Raducanu was about a couple of minutes old, but the Belarusian was already letting her frustration show. She gestured with her hands, and her face mirrored a storm. The roof over Centre Court was closed, which amplified the sound from the stands. The 15,000-strong crowd threw its weight behind the home player. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Sometime, over the course of that 74-minute first set, when she saved eight set points, the 27-year-old turned inward. Only the odd shout of 'come on' scaled the decibel of her grunt. Every now and then she looked at her box and quietly pumped her fists. Sabalenka's 7-6 (6), 6-4 two-hour win put her in the fourth round, where she faces Elise Mertens. Her real victory, however, wasn't the one over the world No. 40, but was achieved as she held herself together when the home crowd egged on her opponent, signing up as a third feature in the match, just like on Chatrier, a month ago in Paris. 'Break her, Emma!' they urged between points, a few times between serves. Poll Which aspect of Sabalenka's game do you think contributed most to her victory? 'I learned from that difficult lesson,' she said. 'In the match, I just kept telling myself, you cannot let it happen again. Whatever happens on the court, you just have to be respectful, you have to be calm. I reminded myself I'm strong enough.' The truth is, when Sabalenka is playing her tennis, she's destruction on a pair of strong legs. A couple of new elements make her more dangerous – drop shot, underspin, that allows her time to stay in the point. More times than not when she finishes on the wrong side of a score line, it is she who has lost the match. Sabalenka is not the first player to want the crowd on her side, Novak Djokovic knows about it. Unfortunately for the world No.1, the geopolitical situation being what it is, she has faced the brunt from the public, especially at Majors. Friday, however, wasn't about the outside noise, it was about the calm she found inside her. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

IND vs ENG, 2nd Test: Calm captain, fidgety deputy make for potent combo

Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill Birmingham: Days after Rishabh Pant scripted the famous heist at the Gabba back in 2021, Shubman Gill had said Pant was his 'hero' in the Indian team. Gill had himself set up the fascinating chase with a well-made 91 while opening the batting. Four and a half years later, Gill is India's Test captain and Pant is his deputy. They are still like two peas in a pod. It shows when they bat in a partnership. The conversations often go deep, never mind their fun-loving public personas. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! They batted together for the first time in a Test against Bangladesh in Chennai last Sept, following Pant's return from injury after the car accident. They put on an imperious 167-run partnership. Here in England, they put together a double-hundred stand in Headingley in the last Test before Saturday's 110-run partnership. Pant appears to be the restless one while Gill exudes calm. The game usually moves very fast when the flamboyant Pant is batting. The chemistry between the two is unmissable. The three big partnerships they have put on, out of the four times that they have batted together, has not only deflated opponents but ensured the two are fast becoming the most important pillars of India's Test batting. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is your tinnitus getting worse? England often resorted to bizarre field settings in a bid to disturb their rhythm, but to no avail. Gill's constant chats helped regulate Pant's adrenaline rush. When Ben Stokes went about adjusting the field after nearly every ball, the duo kept alerting each other. Fifteen minutes before lunch, Pant missed a swat towards square-leg off a flat delivery from Shoaib Bashir. He looked up at Gill and declared that he wasn't going to play that shot again. When Pant suffered the lifethreatening car crash in Dec 2022, Gill was busy with international cricket. A member of Gill's family, however, was sent to stay in a hotel next to the hospital in Dehradun where Pant had been admitted. Their care for each other reflects even when they are fielding. As long as Pant was at the crease, Gill didn't mind playing unconventional cricket to beat the field set for short-pitched bowling. Ravi Shastri , India's head coach during the 2021 Gabba Test, recounted how Pant and Gill made their own plans on the final day of that Test. 'I was walking past them in the dressing room, I overheard them discussing how they would approach the different stages of the game. They had their own plans for the new ball and old ball. They only discussed how they could win. I didn't interject because their minds were ticking. It was best to let them be. They were focused on winning,' Shastri said on air.
