Woman arrested for 'torching her ex-boyfriend's house'
Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said: 'According to the report the male complainant was sleeping in his house when his ex-girlfriend knocked at the door, and he did not open.
'She started breaking the windows. He woke up and sought assistance from the neighbours, and that's when the suspect burnt down the house,' he said.
Police were called to the scene and opened a case of arson. They started their investigation and the suspect was apprehended.
Ledwaba said the damage is estimated at R520,000, including the belongings destroyed in the fire.
The suspect is set to appear before the Phalala magistrate's court on Monday, facing a charge of arson.

Image: File A Limpopo pastor who lured teenage girls, aged between 14 and 17, to his church under the guise of spiritual guidance has been sentenced to two life terms and an additional 45 years in prison for multiple rapes and sexual assault. Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the Naphuno Magistrate's Court on July 31, 2025, found 39-year-old Confidence Monyela guilty of a string of crimes involving minor girls aged between 14 and 17, committed between 2016 and 2017 in the Maake policing area. "The rape incidents were committed while the accused was allegedly inviting the victims to come to his church in the evening for spiritual sermons. Upon their arrival at the premises, Confidence Monyela prayed for the victims and later raped them," Ledwaba Ledwaba added that Monyela used religious threats to silence the victims. "The minor girls were threatened not to tell anyone because the Holy Spirit would kill them if they did not comply with the instruction." He would then drive them home after the assaults. The abuse came to light in August 2017, when one of the victims confided in a social worker, who informed the girl's parents. A case was opened and Maake police registered five counts of rape. Monyela was later released on R15,000 bail but was taken back into custody on the day of sentencing. The court handed down the following sentences: Count 1: Life imprisonment for Rape Count 2: Life imprisonment for Rape Count 3: 10 years for Rape Count 4: 10 years for Rape Count 5: 10 years for Rape Count 6: 05 years for Sexual Assault The sentences for counts 3, 4, 5, and 6 will run concurrently with the life imprisonment imposed on the first two counts. Tragic end: Missing mother and toddler daughter found beheaded
The 34-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter vanished in May and their bodies were discovered this week, decapitated. Image: SAPS Two suspects, aged 43 and 32, have been arrested by the police in Limpopo for the brutal murder of a mother aged 34 and her two-year-old daughter. The woman and her daughter went missing on 19 May, sparking an extensive investigation by the police at Thohoyandou, Vhembe District, joined by the provincial team of investigators dealing with missing persons' cases. 'On Wednesday, a task team comprising SAPS Thohoyandou intervention team, Thohoyandou detectives, and provincial missing persons team followed a credible lead which led to the discovery of the body of the mother and her daughter,' said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, provincial police spokesperson. 'As a result of this gruesome discovery, two suspects were linked to the incident, and were immediately arrested. During the process, it was also discovered that the bodies were without heads.' Police also established that one of the suspects is alleged to be the boyfriend of the deceased. 'The motive behind this heinous act of crime is still under investigation,' said Ledwaba. The duo was remanded in custody, and the matter was postponed to Tuesday for further investigations. Meanwhile, provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrests, and she saluted the investigating teams 'for their remarkable skill' which resulted in the tracking down of the alleged killers. Cape Town City had been hoping for a last-minute lifeline that might see them reinstated in the Betway Premiership, but those hopes were crushed on Thursday night when the PSL Disciplinary Committee (DC) handed Gallants a R200,000 fine — half suspended — for violating registration rules. That means the MTN8 will go ahead without delay, and the top-flight calendar remains intact, even though the decision leaves many with more questions than answers. City had taken the matter to arbitration through the South African Football Association (SAFA), arguing that Gallants breached league regulations by fielding Mphambaniso in 26 of their 28 league matches last season despite not securing the correct clearance certificate. 'The PSL finalised a disciplinary matter, in which I had proferred charges of misconduct against Marumo Gallants FC and its player Monde Mphambaniso,' said Majavu.
