Dalal Street Week Ahead: Nifty near breakout as resistance seen at 25,100; PSU banks, energy lead sectoral momentum

Time of India10 hours ago

After consolidating for two weeks, the Nifty finally appeared to be flexing its muscles for a potential move higher. Over the past five sessions, the Nifty traded with an underlying positive bias and ended near the week's high point while also attempting to move past a crucial pattern of resistance. The past week saw the Index oscillating in the 527-point range, which was in line with the previous weeks. The volatility also cooled off; the India VIX came off by 9% to 14.63 on a weekly basis. While staying largely in a range trading with a positive bias, the headline Index closed with a net weekly gain of 252.35 points (+1.02%).
Over the past couple of weeks, the Nifty has traded in a well-defined range created between 24,500-25,100 levels. This would mean that the markets would remain devoid of directional bias unless they take out 25,100 on the higher side or violate the 24,500 level. Despite visibly strong undercurrents, staying reactive to the markets rather than getting predictive would be prudent. Although there are heightened possibilities of the Nifty taking out the 25,100 level, we must consider it as resistance until it is taken out convincingly.

The coming week is set to see a stable start; the levels of 25150 and 25400 are likely to act as resistance points. The supports come in at 24,800 and 24500. The trading range is expected to get wider than usual.
The weekly RSI is 60.94; it continues to remain neutral and does not show any divergence against the price. The weekly MACD is bullish and remains above its signal line. A strong white candle emerged; this shows the bullish trend that the markets had during the week.
Live Events
A pattern analysis of the weekly chart shows that the Nifty resisted the upward rising trendline that began from the low of 21,350 and joined the subsequent rising bottoms. The Nifty has attempted to penetrate it after resisting it for a couple of weeks.
Overall, the coming week may see the markets trading with an underlying bullish bias. However, for this to culminate in a good trending move, the Index will have to take out the 25,100-25,150 zone convincingly on the upside. Until this happens, the markets may continue to consolidate in a broad trading range. Unless there is a strong move that surpasses the 25,100-25,150 zone, one must consider this level as an immediate resistance point. Some pockets have run up too hard over the past few days; one must also focus on protecting gains at current levels rather than chasing the up moves. Fresh purchases must be kept limited in stocks with strong technical setups and the presence of relative strength. A cautiously positive approach is advised for the coming week.

Relative Rotation Graphs (RRG) show that the Nifty PSU Bank Index continues to build on its relative momentum while staying inside the leading quadrant. It may continue outperforming the markets relatively. The Infrastructure, Consumption, and PSE Index are also inside the leading quadrant but are seen giving up on their relative momentum.
ETMarkets.com
The Nifty Bank Index has rolled inside the weakening quadrant. The Nifty Services Sector, Financial Services, and Commodity Indice are also inside the weakening quadrant. Individual performance of components from these groups may be seen, but overall relative performance may slow down over the coming weeks.
The Nifty FMCG Index has rolled inside the lagging quadrant. The Nifty Metal and Pharma Indice are languishing in this quadrant. The Nifty IT index is also inside the lagging quadrant, but is seen in a strong bottoming-out process while improving its relative momentum.
The Nifty Energy, Media, Realty, and Auto Indices are inside the improving quadrant and may continue improving their relative performance against the broader markets.

Deported from US, bizman arrested in 30cr export fraud

New Delhi: Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police arrested Angad Pal Singh, a businessman, in connection with a massive Rs 30.47-crore export fraud involving forged foreign inward remittance certificates (FIRCs). Singh was taken into custody on June 2 after being deported from the US. Singh, who helped his father in the business of auto spare parts, was earlier arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation in another fraud case and was later handed over to EOW for his role in this export scam. Police said a case was registered in 2017 on the complaint of a private bank. The complainant reported that 467 fake FIRCs were submitted to the bank by their 18 account holders (17 firms) during the processing of their export documents. The fake FIRCs were for the period from Sept 26, 2013, to Oct 21, 2015. "Upon receipt of the FIRCs, the bank issued bank realisation certificates (BRCs) to the account holders, who availed trade (export) benefits from the office of Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the foreign trade policy. All these FIRCs, which ran into crores of rupees, were purportedly issued from a bank at Bhikaji Cama Place," police said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Amazon CFD : La clave para un ingreso extra (Conoce más) Empezar ahora Registrarse Undo Under the foreign trade policy, exporters are entitled to two key benefits: duty drawback and scrips. Duty drawback is directly credited to the exporter's account by the customs department once the goods are successfully exported through designated ports or depots. The second benefit, scrips, is provided by DGFT as an incentive for exporters, allowing exemption from import duties. "These scrips are issued only after the exporter receives payments and submits the necessary documents to an authorised dealer bank. Upon verification, the bank will issue a bank realisation certificate, which the exporter will present to DGFT to claim the benefits," police said. The investigation revealed that Singh, along with his father Surinder Singh and brother, owned five firms and managed the affairs of these companies with them. "They created forged FIRCs and obtained benefits of duty credit scrips worth Rs 30.47 crore and sold them in the open market," DCP (EOW) Vikram Porwal said. The remittance was shown to be received at a bank. They opened bank accounts in a private bank and processed the documents in conspiracy with bank employees. When the complaint was filed, they fled the country.

Honour job offers: AU to take undertaking from recruiters

Chennai: To avoid delays in onboarding of students and the rescinding of job offers by companies, Anna University is planning to get an undertaking from recruiters that they will honour the job offers issued during placement drive. Campus placement for an academic year generally starts around the end of July. Centre for University-Industry Collaboration is planning to invite more than 400 companies in 2025-26. "We are planning to take the undertaking as students are not allowed to sit for other placement interviews after accepting the job offer. If companies are not willing to recruit after giving offer letters, some students will miss out on joining top companies," said K Shanmuga Sundaram, director, Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC), Anna University. The university is taking this step as a precautionary measure as it plans to expand the number of recruiters from 230 companies this year to 400 companies next year by inviting new companies. It also selected student ambassadors to pitch the strengths of the individual departments to recruiters. "Student ambassadors have reached out to 40 new companies and are preparing presentations with the strength of their individual departments and skill sets students gained in the past six semesters," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sciatica & Back Pain? The placement season for 2024-25 is still on with some core companies continuing to hire students. To increase the number of students bagging placement offers during 2025-26, the university is planning an eight-day placement training for 1,400 students on its four campuses. "We are planning to give placement training to all seventh-semester students from July 2 to 8. It will include soft skill training, communication training, preparing resumes, mock interviews, programming language, technical sessions, and group discussions," Shanmuga Sundaram said. The university is planning to train students from the first year onwards on foundational skills and emerging technology in the coming academic year to improve campus placement on its four campuses.

Pachpaoli Flyover: Debris & Red Tape

1 2 Nagpur: Even after seven weeks since the demolition of the decades-old Pachpaoli Flyover, which will be replaced by a new, longer one, it is yet to be completed because of the red tape. The flyover demolition was supposed to be completed within a month, but now it is not yet clear when it will be completed, as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has still not received permission from railways to demolish the flyover over its two railway crossings. TOI recently visited the spot and witnessed that much of the Pachpaoli Flyover demolition was completed. However, the important part of the flyover over the level crossing 571 and 572, and between it, are yet to be demolished. According to NHAI officials, they sent the proposal to dismantle the flyover over the railway crossing to the railways. "For demolition of the flyover over the railway line, the traffic on the lines needs to be stopped. We have demanded five to six two-hour blocks and one three-hour block for the demolition work but are yet to receive the permission. Nagpur railways sent the proposal to Bilaspur, and it is pending from there," said an official. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The NHAI official also added that until the flyover is demolished, they cannot start the work of two RuBs, proposed as part of the project, at both the railway lines. "Because of this dependent work, the timeline for the project is being affected," added the official. Earlier, the start of the Pachpaoli flyover demolition was delayed due to a lack of permission from the traffic department, who directed NHAI officials to take multiple measures so that traffic is not affected, and the railways, who too suggested some measures. Now, even after work started, its completion is stuck again. Pachpaoli flyover is being demolished for building of Kamal Chowk to Reshimbagh flyover, part of Rs998 crore project aimed at decongesting North & South Nagpur.
