Dalal Street Week Ahead: Nifty near breakout as resistance seen at 25,100; PSU banks, energy lead sectoral momentum

Time of India07-06-2025
After consolidating for two weeks, the Nifty finally appeared to be flexing its muscles for a potential move higher. Over the past five sessions, the Nifty traded with an underlying positive bias and ended near the week's high point while also attempting to move past a crucial pattern of resistance. The past week saw the Index oscillating in the 527-point range, which was in line with the previous weeks. The volatility also cooled off; the India VIX came off by 9% to 14.63 on a weekly basis. While staying largely in a range trading with a positive bias, the headline Index closed with a net weekly gain of 252.35 points (+1.02%).
Over the past couple of weeks, the Nifty has traded in a well-defined range created between 24,500-25,100 levels. This would mean that the markets would remain devoid of directional bias unless they take out 25,100 on the higher side or violate the 24,500 level. Despite visibly strong undercurrents, staying reactive to the markets rather than getting predictive would be prudent. Although there are heightened possibilities of the Nifty taking out the 25,100 level, we must consider it as resistance until it is taken out convincingly.

The coming week is set to see a stable start; the levels of 25150 and 25400 are likely to act as resistance points. The supports come in at 24,800 and 24500. The trading range is expected to get wider than usual.
The weekly RSI is 60.94; it continues to remain neutral and does not show any divergence against the price. The weekly MACD is bullish and remains above its signal line. A strong white candle emerged; this shows the bullish trend that the markets had during the week.
Live Events
A pattern analysis of the weekly chart shows that the Nifty resisted the upward rising trendline that began from the low of 21,350 and joined the subsequent rising bottoms. The Nifty has attempted to penetrate it after resisting it for a couple of weeks.
Overall, the coming week may see the markets trading with an underlying bullish bias. However, for this to culminate in a good trending move, the Index will have to take out the 25,100-25,150 zone convincingly on the upside. Until this happens, the markets may continue to consolidate in a broad trading range. Unless there is a strong move that surpasses the 25,100-25,150 zone, one must consider this level as an immediate resistance point. Some pockets have run up too hard over the past few days; one must also focus on protecting gains at current levels rather than chasing the up moves. Fresh purchases must be kept limited in stocks with strong technical setups and the presence of relative strength. A cautiously positive approach is advised for the coming week.

Relative Rotation Graphs (RRG) show that the Nifty PSU Bank Index continues to build on its relative momentum while staying inside the leading quadrant. It may continue outperforming the markets relatively. The Infrastructure, Consumption, and PSE Index are also inside the leading quadrant but are seen giving up on their relative momentum.
ETMarkets.com
The Nifty Bank Index has rolled inside the weakening quadrant. The Nifty Services Sector, Financial Services, and Commodity Indice are also inside the weakening quadrant. Individual performance of components from these groups may be seen, but overall relative performance may slow down over the coming weeks.
The Nifty FMCG Index has rolled inside the lagging quadrant. The Nifty Metal and Pharma Indice are languishing in this quadrant. The Nifty IT index is also inside the lagging quadrant, but is seen in a strong bottoming-out process while improving its relative momentum.
The Nifty Energy, Media, Realty, and Auto Indices are inside the improving quadrant and may continue improving their relative performance against the broader markets.

'Social Security will be gone if...': Trump celebrates Social Security's 90th anniversary, makes big claim

US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation marking the 90th anniversary of the establishment of Social Security Thursday, where he boasted about changes in his recent tax law aimed at providing relief to seniors. Among other things, the 79-year-old Republican announced that his administration has 'kicked out' as many as 275,000 illegal immigrants out of the program. He further added that about 2.4 million names, over 120 years old, were removed from the database. While President Trump promoted the program's improvements under his leadership, rpeorts from inside the agency paint a complete different picture. Social Security advocates are questioning whether the administration may be weighing changes to the popular program that would be harmful to its long-term success, according to news agency AP. 'On the 90th anniversary of the establishment of this historic program, I recommit to always defending Social Security, rewarding the men and women who make our country prosperous, and taking care of our own workers, families, seniors and citizens first,' Trump said in the Oval Office. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing Older Women should Avoid Learn More ALSO READ: 9 shocking facts about 'killer whale' Orcas that will leave you surprised Social Security "looks more threatened than ever," reports AP. Tens of millions of Americans rely on Social Security benefits to make ends meet, and polling suggests it is the most popular government policy. Live Events On Thursday, Trump said he saved the program. "Under Biden, Social Security went down like nobody's ever seen." "By massively improving the customer service experience through technological improvements, preventing illegal aliens from accessing benefits, and delivering no taxes on Social Security through the One Big Beautiful Bill — President Trump has Made Social Security Great Again," White House spokesperson Liz Huston said in a statement. "You keep hearing stories that in six years, seven years, Social Security will be gone, and it will be if the Democrats ever get involved, because they don't know what they're doing, but it's going to be around a long time with us," Trump said Thursday. Check exceptions Trump talks about big, beautiful bill The president touted his 'big, beautiful' tax law enacted last month as paving the way for the 'largest tax break for seniors in the history of our country,' while lauding efforts in his administration to root out 'fraud, waste and abuse.' 'You reported it all the time. In four or five years, it's going to go bust, but not anymore, it's not,' he claimed to reporters, while also boasting efforts in the administration aimed at finding 'tremendous fraud, where we have illegal aliens.' But recent analysis from the Trump administration's chief actuary for the program projected the president's recent tax and spending megabill could speed up insolvency for Social Security's trust funds, which could start seeing lower levels of tax revenue of benefits starting this year. Trump's comments come as his administration's plans to significantly reduce the agency's workforce and increased rhetoric about eliminating 'billions of dollars' in fraud in the program have drawn much public attention in recent months.

Qcomm platforms boost promotions with curated offerings for Independence Day, Janmashtami

PTI Quick commerce platforms Zepto, Flipkart Minutes, BigBasket and Swiggy have launched discounts and special promotions for products tailored to Independence Day and Janmashtami celebrations, including sweets, decoration and pooja items. For Independence Day, rapid-delivery platforms are offering a range of tricolour-themed products, including decorative items, the Indian flag and apparel in the colours of the national flag. Similarly, for Janmashtami, companies have introduced offerings such as clothes for Krishna idols, peacock feathers, and other pooja-related products. Traditional sweets commonly associated with the festival are also available through these services, often in discounted combo packs. There are also fasting-related food items, story books on Krishna, and instant guides for poojas. Industry experts have highlighted the growing trend of consumers relying on quick commerce for last-minute festive shopping due to speed and convenience. Quick commerce companies also see festive occasions and major sports and entertainment events as an opportunity to attract customers with curated assortments specific to these events. For instance, customers send chocolates and gift items for Valentine's Day, Father's Day, Mother's Day, or Friendship Day, and festive goods for festivals such as Eid, Christmas, Holi, or Dhanteras. ET reported on August 9 that quick commerce platforms saw a rise in orders for rakhis and gifts on Raksha Bandhan. With the festive season around the corner, the platforms are going beyond fast delivery and attractive offers, and increasing their stock-keeping units (SKUs) to provide a wider selection of items. Insiders told us that platforms such as Instamart and Flipkart Minutes are seeing a significant trend of consumers planning their festive purchases in advance, not just relying on last-minute shopping.
