Alan Tudyk reveals reason he was dropped from ‘I, Robot' press — and it involves Will Smith
The actor appeared in the 2004 sci-fil thriller as the robot Sonny via motion capture and voice acting, but he was totally absent from 20th Century Fox film's marketing and press tour.
'A lot of people didn't know I did Sonny the robot in 'I, Robot,' and there's a reason for that, actually,' Tudyk, 54, recently stated on Jim Cummings' 'Toon'd In!' podcast.

'They were doing test audiences with the movie, and they score the characters in this kind of test audience, and I got word back, 'Alan, you're testing higher than Will Smith,'' he revealed.

'Then I was gone. I was done,' Tudyk added. 'There was no publicity, and my name was not mentioned.'
Tudyk admitted that he was 'so shocked' by the studio's decision.

'I was like, 'Wait, what? How do they — nobody's going to know that I —' and [Fox] was like, 'Mhm,'' he recalled.
'It was sad,' Tudyk shared. 'I put a lot into it, because he had to move like a robot, so I had to move [like a robot]. At the time, I was very upset.'

The Post has reached out to Smith's reps and Disney, who owns 20th Century Studios, for comment.
Directed by Alex Proyas, 'I, Robot' is about a Chicago police detective (Smith) who investigates the alleged suicide of a robotics company founder and becomes convinced that one of the robots, Sonny (Tudyk), murdered him.

The film, which also stars James Cromwell, Bridget Moynahan, Bruce Greenwood and Chi McBride, grossed over $346 million worldwide and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

After 'I, Robot,' Tudyk did motion capture again for his role as droid K-2SO in the 2016 'Star Wars' film 'Rogue One' and its Disney+ prequel series 'Andor.'
Smith, for his part, talked about taking a 'gamble' with 'I, Robot' in a July 2004 interview with Black Film.

'I just loved the idea, the gamble of making this kind of movie, because it's actually a small art film that is masquerading as a big summer blockbuster,' the Oscar winner said.
'You know like the interrogation scene of Sonny, I was looking at that scene last night like, you can't compare that to anything,' Smith continued. 'There's no other movie where you have that level of emotion and connection with somebody interrogating, a detective interrogating a robot, without it being silly. I love the film and hope that people can connect to it.'

Former 'Superman' actor Dean Cain ridiculed 'Last Week Tonight' host John Oliver on Monday over his monologue claiming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was 'f—ed' if they let the actor join its ranks. Near the end of his show on Sunday, Oliver mocked both ICE and Cain over news that ICE had removed its age limits and would be swearing in the 'Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' star as an 'honorary ICE officer.' 'You know, there's an old saying in Hollywood: 'If all you can get is Dean Cain, you are f—ed,'' Oliver said on his show. 'Now, I'm not saying that ICE isn't finding people. Thanos Actor Josh Brolin on 'Avengers' Return if Asked: I'd 'Be There Tomorrow'
Who's up for the return of Thanos? Josh Brolin certainly is. After playing the character in Guardians of the Galaxy and the recent Avengers movies, including the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame (2019), it marked the end of Thanos' run as the central antagonist. While it's unlikely, we've certainly seen stranger things happen than Thanos finding his way back for another go-round. If that were to pan out, Brolin left no doubt that he'd be there. For Brolin, though, he seems to have loved playing Thanos as much as fans appreciated him in the role. Brolin joined Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and when the topic came up, he said candidly that if he got the call for Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, he'd "be there tomorrow." "That was one movie and I've said Thanos thing, if they called me in London right now and said let's do this, I'd be like, 'I'll be there tomorrow,'" Brolin stated. Horowitz stated that although Thanos ended on such a great note, Brolin seems to have confidence in the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe, to hypothetically come up with something that makes sense if he were to ever return. "Of course they're going to come up with something really fun, I mean who knows?" Brolin replied. "...I don't know what they're going to do, but I'm sure it'll be interesting. I think they do that very, very, very well. Although Brolin doesn't sound as though he expects to get the call about bringing Thanos back, he certainly made it known that if the opportunity presented itself, he'd happily return. Josh Brolin on Talking to Robert Downey Jr. And the Russo Brothers Amid the discussion about Thanos, Horowitz asked whether Brolin stays in touch with Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers, who are directing Avengers: Doomsday. "[I] talk to Downey probably 4-6 times a year, I talk to the Russos probably 4-6 times a week," Brolin said. "I mean, I talk to Joe a lot...I love them, I love both of them, I think they're amazing." It's hard not to appreciate Brolin's love of his character in the Marvel universe, and fortunately, he's remained plenty busy since Avengers: Endgame. Most recently, Brolin starred alongside Julia Garner in Weapons, which is now officially in theaters. The Zach Cregger-directed film continues to earn rave reviews after beginning with a stellar stretch of perfect critic reviews through the first 30-35 on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, Weapons boasts a "certified fresh" label and a 97 percent critics' score based on 156 reviews.
