No alliance at the top, but Congress, AAP discuss strategy ahead of Goa assembly session
The session will be held from July 21 to August 8.
Congress and AAP MLAs attended a meeting called by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on July 15, while the leaders of other opposition parties including the Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans Party remained absent.
"I convened a meeting with the opposition MLAs, including AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, and Congress's Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Altone D'Costa," Mr. Alemao said in a statement.
The purpose was to draw up the opposition's strategy, he said.
"The discussion was productive, with valuable inputs from MLAs Venzy Viegas, Carlos, Altone and Cruz on how to hold the BJP government accountable," said Mr. Alemao who belongs to the Congress.
"We are united in our determination to protect Goa from the corrupt BJP government's clutches," he added.
Congress MLAs have submitted over 750 Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQs) for the session, Mr. Alemao said.
AAP Goa president Amit Palekar said to attend the meeting was the decision of the legislative wing of his party. The AAP and Congress have decided to demand accountability from the BJP government on the floor of the House, he said, adding that a collective strategy was decided for the sake of the people of Goa.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday (July 15, 2025), AAP MLAs Viegas and Silva said, "United we stand for Goa's justice. For meaningful change in the assembly, AAP and opposition parties must align their political and legislative wings. Common political discipline and collective action should happen."

INDIA bloc parties to hold key online meet on July 19 to discuss prevailing political situation
INDIA bloc parties will hold an online meeting on Saturday (July 19, 2025) to reach a consensus on issues that they would raise to corner the government during Parliament's Monsoon Session and convey a message of unity, but AAP has distanced itself from the opposition grouping. The TMC, which was earlier said to be skipping the INDIA bloc meeting, however, said its national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will attend the online meeting. The meeting comes right before the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which starts on Monday. It will be held after a long gap since the INDIA bloc parties jointly deliberated the country's political situation. Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, said the INDIA bloc is united and its prominent leaders will hold deliberations online on Saturday and meet in Delhi later. Late on Thursday night, the Congress announced that a meeting of the leaders of the INDIA bloc parties will be held online on Saturday evening to discuss the prevailing political situation of the country. The leaders would deliberate on a host of key issues, including the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, the demand for a discussion on the Pahalgam attack, and Operation Sindoor. The opposition party has also decided to raise farmers' problems, the issues of rising unemployment, safety and security of the country and the Ahmedabad air crash during the session. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi had convened a meeting of the party's parliamentary strategy group at her 10, Janpath residence here on Tuesday evening. Top party leaders, including Congress president Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari, Jairam Ramesh, K Suresh, Manickam Tagore and others had participated in the meeting.

‘Game changer', ‘historic': AAP switches to social media to defend land pooling scheme
Jalandhar: As farm groups, opposition and other organisations continue to mobilise against the Punjab govt's land pooling policy, the AAP launched an aggressive social media campaign to justify and promote the initiative while claiming that farmers were happily giving their land for it. However, pro-farm social media accounts and several other Punjabi netizens have also launched a counter-offensive. AAP launched the campaign on Thursday, claiming that Punjab farmers were happy about the policy. AAP's ministers and MLAs posted content on their social media accounts, which claimed that Punjab farmers were "embracing" the land pooling policy. They described the policy as "rewriting history" and the future, a "big shift", a "huge win for Punjab farmers," a "game changer," and used other strong adjectives in support of the policy. Ruling front in Tripura to fight ADC elections independently
Agartala: The BJP-led ruling front in Tripura will fight the election to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous Council (ADC), slated for early next year, separately under their respective party banners. Indigenous People's Front of Tripura ( IPFT ) and Tipra Motha are partners in the BJP-led govt. BJP on Thursday held a meeting of its tribal front leaders to discuss the preparations for the ADC polls without the participation of IPFT and Tipra Motha. IPFT on Friday held a meeting in the presence of cooperation minister of Manik Saha's cabinet Shukla Charan Noatia. He said it would contest the upcoming ADC elections with full strength, aiming for a better performance than the 2021 elections. IPFT has decided to start electioneering through the celebration of its foundation day on Aug 23, Noatia said. "We have strengthened our base and our position is better compared to previous years. Those who had left IPFT and joined other parties are now returning," Noatia said. Tipra Motha, the ruling party of ADC, is mobilising supporters on the ground. ADC's chief executive member Purna Chandra Jamatia claimed that under Tipra Motha, several social development projects have been implemented to empower the poor tribals, besides upgradation of health care facilities, skill development, and resource monetisation. However, he alleged that the state govt has not yet released half of its allocation to ADC. As a result, many of the infrastructure development projects couldn't be implemented in five years. Tipra Motha founder and member of the development council, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, implemented several projects in ADC using his link, Jamatia said."Although we are partners in the Tripura govt, ADC didn't get adequate support and cooperation from the state; rather faced several hindrances," Jamatia said. Meanwhile, highlighting the development initiatives of the state, CM Manik Saha on Friday said his govt is working by following in the footsteps of PM Narendra Modi for the overall development and progress of the Janajati people (tribals).
