TORONTO, ON - OCTOBER 04: Kevin Pillar #11 of the Toronto Blue Jays celebrates defeating the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 in the eleventh inning to win the American League Wild Card game at Rogers Centre on October 4, 2016 in Toronto, Canada. More"You realize how stressful being a Major League Baseball player is," Pillar said on a clip posted on the "Foul Territory" X account. "For me, what I started to realize when I was away from the game, when I got DFA'd, I realized as great as it is to be successful in the game, to have these highs and hit the home runs, striking out and not being successful and going 0 for your last 10, those things always outweighed the success I had in the game. I took the failure in the game way harder than I did the success. I don't have to deal with the failure anymore, so I'm pretty excited. I get to wake up every morning and be dad and just see what the day brings."
Pillar spent seven seasons with the Blue Jays before he became a journeyman. He slashed .260/.297/.396 with 55 home runs for the Blue Jays in 695 games. He finished his career with a .255/.293/.405 slash line, 114 home runs, 111 stolen bases and 469 RBIs.

MLB Writer Suggests Massive Red Sox Trade Involving Alex Bregman, Luis Castillo
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Red Sox have the chance to be major players at the trade deadline once again this season, and it all revolves around infielder Alex Bregman. Boston could look to trade Bregman if there's a team in the league willing to part ways with big league players and prospects. Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer recently pitched a trade idea that would send Bregman to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Luis Castillo and prospect Michael Arroyo. BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 23: Alex Bregman #2 of the Boston Red Sox takes the field ahead of game one of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park on May 23, 2025 in... BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 23: Alex Bregman #2 of the Boston Red Sox takes the field ahead of game one of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park on May 23, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. More Maddie Malhotra/Boston"Let's just say it isn't surprising that the Mariners would be interested in Bregman if the Red Sox put him out there," Rymer wrote. "He was a fit for Seattle on paper during the offseason, albeit less so when it came to the financials. But as we'll get to in a minute, that part could potentially be mitigated if Bregman were to become a Mariner by way of a trade. "As for the situation at third base, Jorge Polanco quickly proved to be a non-viable option there and Williamson simply doesn't hit enough to justify everyday playing time. In 61 games, he's slugging .306 with a single homer. The Mariners with Bregman alongside Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez would be a scary team capable of making it to the World Series, which should be the whole idea after 48 years of swings and misses." There's a lot to unpack in this trade package. First of all, from the Mariners' perspective, it makes perfect sense. Trading away an expensive starter like Castillo to bring in an expensive talent like Bregman doesn't change their payroll much, but it largely improves their lineup. Seattle would build the pitching staff back up through the farm system. For the Red Sox, this could make sense, too. Boston's lineup would struggle without Bregman, but adding an ace like Castillo to place alongside Garrett Crochet for the next few years would be huge. Boston might need a bit more in this deal, but the framework looks very realistic. More MLB: Cardinals Predicted To Cut Ties With $81 Million Star In Huge Trade

AL Powerhouse Mentioned As Landing Spot For Red Sox $120 Million Star
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Since the Boston Red Sox opted to trade Rafael Devers, there have been a lot of rumors swirling around the potential that they could completely sell at the trade deadline. This could include a blockbuster deal to send free agency acquisition Alex Bregman to another powerhouse ahead of the trade deadline. Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer recently mentioned the Detroit Tigers as a potential landing spot for Bregman this season. The Tigers reportedly pursued Bregman in free agency, but came up short. BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 23: Alex Bregman #2 of the Boston Red Sox runs after hitting single during the fifth inning of game one of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park on... BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 23: Alex Bregman #2 of the Boston Red Sox runs after hitting single during the fifth inning of game one of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park on May 23, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. More Maddie Malhotra/Boston"Though the Tigers have risen to the top of the American League anyway, third base is one of several relative weaknesses in their everyday lineup. It has produced a .626 OPS and six homers," Rymer wrote. "Of course, adding more offense would be but one reason for the Tigers to circle back around on Bregman. The 2024 Gold Glover would also help their infield defense, which has been slightly below average for Outs Above Average. "In reuniting with former Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch, Bregman could also further heighten the Tigers' credibility as a winner. Not that they need it at this point, but sometimes too much of a good thing is for the best." Trading Bregman doesn't seem like the best idea for the Red Sox this season, but if the Tigers are willing to part ways with a few top prospects, Boston would have to consider a deal. As far as a fit goes, the Tigers are one of the better Bregman landing spots in baseball. He would fit their team and their lineup very well. With Detroit playing so well this year, the front office is likely willing to take a shot on a huge trade like this. Again, the prospect return would need to be massive to move the needle for Boston. Blue Jays announcer goes after Michael Kay for ‘first-place' jab after Yankees get swept
Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free Sportsnet host Jamie Campbell wasn't going to let Michael Kay get away with his Blue Jays jab. After the Blue Jays completed their four-game sweep of the Yankees on Thursday, Campbell threw some shade during the postgame show toward Kay — while not referencing the play-by-play announcer by name, but referring to him as a 'certain Yankee broadcaster' — after a prior comment about how Toronto doesn't reflect a first-place team. Advertisement 'I can think of a certain Yankee broadcaster, in fact, who is gonna have to go on his show [Friday] and admit that the Blue Jays are a first-place team,' Campbell said during the segment as he held a broom, 'because the standings prove it.' 3 Sportsnet host Jamie Campbell used a broom following the Blue Jays' win against the Yankees on July 3. Screengrab via X/@awfulannouncing At one point this season, the Yankees possessed a commanding lead in the AL East standings, but that quickly unraveled and then ultimately changed this series — when Toronto tied for the lead with a win in the third game and then moved into sole possession of first place with an 8-5 victory Thursday night. Advertisement 3 Michael Kay calls Yankees games for Yes Network. AP Kay, during a segment on his radio show Wednesday, cited a stark gap in run differential at the time as a reason why the Blue Jays, despite orchestrating a 21-10 tear after a 28-28 start, don't deserve to lead the division. 'The Blue Jays are not a first-place team, I'm sorry,' Kay said. 'If you look at the run differential, the Yankees' run differential is +105. The Blue Jays, after a 12-5 win, finally got in the positive yesterday; they're +4. Do you realize they should be a .500 team because of a +4 run differential? Advertisement 'And the Yankees should have at least four or five more wins with a +105 run differential. They're not playing great baseball. I'm sorry, they're not.' 3 George Springer gets drenched with water after the Blue Jays defeated the Yankees on July 3. AP The Yankees have lost 14 of their last 20 games entering this weekend's Subway Series against the Mets behind a slumping offense — struggles that even include Aaron Judge, to a degree — and inconsistent pitching that had a particularly rough series in Toronto. They took another pitching hit Friday when Clarke Schmidt was placed on the injured list after exiting his Thursday start with forearm tightness.
