Cairo International Film Festival Opens Submissions for 46th Edition
Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) has announced the opening of film submissions for its 46th edition, scheduled from November 12 to 21, 2025.
Filmmakers can submit their works via the festival's official website starting today, April 20, through August 1, 2025. The early bird window remains open until May 31.
Festival President, actor Hussein Fahmy, expressed his enthusiasm for the new edition, stating:
'We are pleased to announce the opening of submissions for the 46th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival. We look forward to receiving fresh and diverse films that reflect unique cinematic perspectives and a wide range of cultures. We believe cinema is a universal language, and the festival remains a vital platform for artistic exchange and creative dialogue between filmmakers and audiences.'
Artistic Director Mohamed Tarek confirmed that preparations for the upcoming edition are already underway, saying: 'We began working early to ensure a distinctive edition. Each year, submissions reveal exceptional talents, cinematic discoveries, and promising new voices from around the world.'
Established in 1976, Cairo International Film Festival is recognized as one of the most prominent film festivals in the Arab region and the African continent. It holds a prestigious Category A accreditation and remains the only festival in the Arab world and Africa officially recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF).

The Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) is gearing up for a spectacular 15th edition, set to take place in the last week of March 2026 under the powerful theme: 'Youssef Chahine… An Egyptian Tale.' Four of his most celebrated, newly restored films—revived by Misr International Films—will take center stage in Luxor and across African countries throughout 2026. In parallel, the festival will honor key collaborators from Chahine's filmography, making this centennial celebration a continent-wide homage to his enduring legacy. Festival Director Azza Elhosseiny also announced a reimagined 'Special Focus' program spotlighting South African cinema, with four landmark films and a reissue of a pivotal book tracing the nation's cinematic evolution. This year's edition will also pay heartfelt tribute to the late Malian auteur Souleymane Cissé (1940–2025), a towering figure in African cinema and a longtime friend of LAFF. A dedicated bulletin and retrospective will honor his remarkable contributions to the art form, including his award-winning works that once graced Cannes and other international festivals. Since its inception in 2011, LAFF has been a vibrant bridge between Egypt and the rest of Africa, championing the continent's rich cinematic heritage through curated screenings, cross-border programs, and institutional collaborations. Organized by the Independent Artists Youth Foundation, with actor Mahmoud Hemida as honorary president and producer-distributor Gaby Khoury heading the high committee, the festival is backed by Egypt's Ministries of Culture, Tourism & Antiquities, Foreign Affairs, and Youth & Sports. Key partners include the National Bank of Egypt, Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, Kemet for Peace and Knowledge, Afreximbank, the Syndicate of Cinematic Professions, and Luxor Governorate.

Alhilaliya Troupe Performs at Bayt al-Suhaymi
Yara Sameh The Bayt al-Suhaymi Creativity Center, located in al-Darb al-Asfar Lane in al-Gamaliyya in al-Muizz Street, will host a new performance by the Al-Hilaliya Troupe on Thursday at 8:00 PM. The performance is part of the efforts of the Cultural Development Fund, headed by architect Hamdi El-Sattouhi, to preserve oral heritage and revive folk arts. The event is part of the performances hosted by the center to represent the Hilaliya epic as one of the most prominent tributaries of Arab cultural memory. The act combines storytelling, singing, and movement in a theatrical scene inspired by folk tales and presented in a language capable of communicating with the audience. The Al-Hilaliya Troupe, founded by Shaima Refaat, is one of the few troupes dedicated to documenting and presenting the Bani Hilal epic in popular dramatic styles, combining singing and theatrical narration, with the participation of a number of artists who were raised in the traditions of the "Waw" art. The show presents the story of Rizq Ibn Nayel, one of the Bani Hilal knights, and his battle to restore the tribe's honor. It showcases concepts of courage, sacrifice, and the status of women in folk literature.
