2 People Who Breached Parliament In December 2023 Get Bail
The Delhi High Court today granted bail to Neelam Azad and Mahesh Kumawat, the two people who breached Parliament on December 13 in 2023.
The ruling comes months after the dramatic intrusion inside the Lok Sabha chamber during Zero Hour, coinciding with the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.
While granting bail, the High Court laid down multiple conditions to ensure that the two individuals do not influence the ongoing investigation or trial proceedings. The two have been explicitly barred from holding any press conferences, giving interviews to media outlets or posting any content related to the incident on social media platforms.
Additionally, the Court has directed both Azad and Kumawat to report to their respective police stations every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00 AM without fail. They are also prohibited from leaving the Delhi NCR without prior court permission.
The incident occurred on December 13, the anniversary of the deadly 2001 Parliament attack. In what was later described by authorities as a "coordinated intrusion," two individuals, identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, leapt from the Lok Sabha visitors' gallery into the chamber during a live session, releasing yellow-coloured gas from canisters and shouting slogans.
Simultaneously, outside the Parliament complex, Amol Dhanraj Shinde and Neelam Azad were seen using similar canisters to release coloured smoke while chanting slogans.
The fifth accused, Lalit Jha, and sixth accused, Mahesh Kumawat, were later arrested in connection with the incident.

Use of children in crimes calls for re-fixing age of juvenility: Delhi HC
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday said use of children by criminals to commit wide-ranging crimes had prompted the reconsideration of the juvenility age. Justice Girish Kathpalia made the observations while dismissing an anticipatory bail plea of a man accused of using a child in illicit liquor trafficking. The judge said far more serious than the illicit liquor trafficking was the child abuse in carrying out such crimes. "Over a period of time, it is being observed that criminals use children to commit wide ranging crimes, involving not just liquor and drugs peddling but also arms/ammunition and even acts of extreme violence, which is leading the society to consider re-fixing the age of juvenility. In my view, far more serious than the illicit liquor trafficking is the child abuse in carrying out such crimes," the court noted. In the case at hand, one Narender was booked on the directions of Juvenile Justice Board, when the juvenile in conflict with law was produced before it. The board directed the FIR against the man primarily for the reason that the juvenile in conflict with law could not be the accused and the victim in the same FIR, the prosecution said. The high court denied the relief to the accused, saying it had to be unearthed whether there was a wide network engaged in similar activities using children. "Apart from the gravity of the offence, it is also the requirement of police to carry out custodial interrogation of the accused, which is significant. It is necessary to unearth if there was/is any other incident of similar nature involving the accused/applicant and any child. It also needs to be unearthed if there is a wide network engaged in similar activities using children. Therefore, I do not find it a fit case to grant anticipatory bail to the accused/applicant," the court said.

'LS polls be considered null': Congress hits back at BJP's 'vote theft' allegations
Hitting back at the BJP for claiming irregularities in seats contested by some top opposition leaders, the Congress on Wednesday said the data shared by the ruling party points to its collusion with the Election Commission (EC) and demanded that the 2024 Lok Sabha polls be considered "null and void" for being held on "fake voter lists". The entire 2024 general election was conducted on "such fake voter lists", Pawan Khera alleged.(File/AICC) The opposition party also demanded the electronic voter list of Varanasi, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had won the electoral contest, "so that people get to know whether he had truly won or not". The Congress's attack came after the ruing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed irregularities in voter registration in the Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Diamond Harbour and Kannauj parliamentary seats, and asked Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Abhishek Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav to resign as Lok Sabha MPs, alleging that they secured their electoral triumphs with "vote chori". Giving a slide-show presentation on the issue at the BJP headquarters here on an "analysis" of the electoral rolls of these constituencies represented by opposition leaders, former Union minister Anurag Thakur also flagged "irregularities" in the voter registration in the Kolathur Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu and the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, and asked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK supremo M K Stalin and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Dimple Yadav to resign for "rigging" their election. Thakur slammed Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), SP and DMK leaders for raising questions on the EC and accused them of running a vicious propaganda against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, which is currently underway in Bihar and would be launched in other states, to protect their "vote bank of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators" and other "intruders". "Seeing this 'shor' (hue and cry) being made by the opposition, it now seems that 'chor machaye shor'", the BJP leader said, suggesting that those who were in the wrong are now crying foul. "Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Kannuaj to Diamond Harbour -- everywhere one question is coming up, why did they make fake voters? Will they resign for indulging in 'vote chori' and protecting intruders?" Thakur asked.
