BJP, NCP-SP independently raise concerns over cluster development project in Thane
NCP-SP MLA Jitendra Awhad
THANE: BJP and NCP-SP MLAs independently raised concerns over the execution of
Cluster Development
project in
Thane
, questioning the if it was being designed to benefit real estate developers.
NCP-SP MLA Jitendra Awhad took to social media, questioning whether efforts were underway to channel large tracts of land into the hands of two prominent developers.
'I suspect the Cluster Development project is being misused to favour two of India's top 100 richest developers, with the Thane Municipal Corporation helping them move into the top 20. These developers are already buying large parcels in Thane's central zones. Their names will be out soon,' Awhad posted cryptically on social media.
Awhad claimed that even as thousands of families await homes promised through the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in the city, the focus of the Thane corporation seems to have shifted to cluster development, he said fearing the fate of these residents who might end up getting a raw deal.

BJP MLA Sanjay
Kelkar
also raised similar concerns, noting how builders were approaching residents directly about Cluster projects, while civic authorities remained behind the curtains. He also pointed out that with no Cluster project complete in Thane yet, the lack of clarity regarding rehabilitation and the entire process being churned out by a few developers was leaving prospective stakeholders - residents - confused about the entire process.
'How can developers approach residents directly? This could disrupt the initiatives of the Devendra Fadnavis govt that okayed the much-delayed and ambitious cluster redevelopment for Thane residents living in illegal, unsafe buildings,' Kelkar said.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Prashant
Rode
stated that no formal complaints were received from residents but assured that any issues would be addressed. 'We are committed to benefiting residents and following the mandate from the Urban Development Department. We will act on any complaints we receive,' Rode said.

A phone shows the an app store page for the application Reversed Front Bonfire (AI) In a latest attempt to tighten its grip over Hong Kong, China has declared possession of a game about defeating communist regime called 'Reversed Front: Bonfire' as seditious under the national security laws. Police in a statement warned, those who download or share the mobile game app 'may be regarded as in possession of a publication that has a seditious intention" As described in the games website, players can 'pledge allegiance' to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Tibet or Uyghurs, among other options, to 'overthrow the communist regime'. It comes as the city continues to see increasing clamp down by Beijing, on dissent in wake of the 2019-pro democracy protest, ever since the imposition of drcaonian national security law following year. . A line on the app website states, the game is 'work of non-fiction,' adding any similarity to actual agencies, policies or ethnic groups of the PRC (Peoples Republic of China), in this game is intentional'. It also allows players to support revolutions joining hands with communists and fight enemies. "Those who have downloaded the application should uninstall it immediately and must not attempt to defy the law." However, the warning may have unintentionally boosted the game's visibility, as it became the top Google search term among Hong Kong users on Wednesday. The developers seemed to welcome the publicity around the ban, posting that the game had effectively been "introduced to the entire Hong Kong" because of the controversy. Hong Kong, the city state though it is autonomous, is currently governed under one China principle.

Centre attempting to ‘suppress' glory of ancient Tamil civilisation unearthed at Keeladi: Vaiko
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) alleged that the Union government appears to be attempting to 'suppress' the ancient Tamil civilisation unearthed at Keeladi, while actively searching for a 'non-existent Sanskrit civilisation.' Mr. Vaiko's remarks came against the backdrop of Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat's recent observation that the reports submitted to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna, who headed the first two phases of excavations at Keeladi in Sivaganga district, are not technically well-supported and that further scientific studies are required to validate the findings. In a statement, Mr. Vaiko said the BJP government at the Centre is making every effort to 'suppress' the glory of Keeladi. 'The BJP and RSS that seek to impose the dominance of Hindi and Sanskrit culture under the guise of 'one language, one culture,' are opposed to the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of India… It is the duty of the Tamil people to resist these fascist forces that attempt to suppress the Tamil language and the ancient history of the Tamil people through various conspiracies,' the MDMK leader said.
