Is Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield A Top 10 QB?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is enjoying the best football of his career since moving to the NFC South.
He was on the scrap heap, and forced his way into the Buccaneers' starting role and hasn't looked back. Coming off a career year in 2024, when Mayfield threw for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns, some are still waiting for the regression they predicted a year ago.
Such has been Mayfield's form, and the current construction of the Buccaneers roster, ESPN's Mike Tannenbaum has the Bucs in the thick of the NFC race, while also having some glowing words for Baker.
"I put them right up there with Detroit, Philly, Washington and the Rams, Tannenbaum said on "First Take." "If we just look at how Baker Mayfield has played in Tampa, there's a reason Liam Coen is a head coach. Baker Mayfield has worked his way back into the top 10 conversation."
There is no denying that Tampa Bay in 2025 isn't on the outside looking in at the big boy table; it has itself a seat.
With an offense considered one of the best in football, along with an improved defense, the Buccaneers should be winning the division and making it to the playoffs for the third straight year under Mayfield.
Exactly what his numbers will look like, we can roughly guess, but those don't matter. What is going on is a deep playoff run. It's a deep playoff run or nothing, and that is part and parcel of having a well-rounded roster and a top 10 quarterback leading it.

Baker Mayfield, George Kittle among NFL players against smelling salt ban
Among one of the odder wars between the NFL and their own players this season has been the recent ban on NFL teams supplying smelling salts and other ammonia-style inhalants by the NFL, which frustrated a lot of players. It started on Tuesday, with San Francisco 49ers' star TE George Kittle breaking the news on the ban to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Since then, multiple NFL players have spoken out against the ban, including big names like Tampa Bay Buccaneers' QB Baker Mayfield. 'I think the reasoning is because it masks concussion symptoms, but if you get knocked out, which is the whole purpose of smelling salts to wake you up, you're not allowed back in the game,' Mayfield said. 'I think it was a quick trigger to ban em.' The Los Angeles Chargers' NFLPA player representative Josh Harris also raised questions about the ban. Again, it's worth noting that the NFL isn't banning smelling salts outright, but the distribution of them by NFL teams. ESPN's Kalyn Kahler, obtained the message the NFLPA about the smelling salt ban. So maybe we see players do what Mayfield said and bring their own juice to games. How would you make your own smelling salts? That feels like an episode of Breaking Bad. The NFL's ban on smelling salts feels like it probably should've happened earlier. Not because of any inherent harm or danger to players, but because the league has tried so hard to clean up their image around concussions and concussion-like symptoms. The league has been at the forefront of new helmet usage, making new caps to wear on top of the helmet and other scientific research to help mitigate concussions, so smelling salts lasting all the way until 2025 feels like an accomplishment. How you would make your own smelling salts? Well, that feels like an episode of Breaking Bad waiting to happen.

"Now you just gotta bring your own juice to the party," Mayfield said. "I'm going to be severely affected to be honest with you." Adams then asked Mayfield what will replace smelling salts in the NFL. Mayfield responded with a hilarious answer. "Just more headbutts," he said. Regardless of the smelling salts drama, Mayfield has turned his NFL career around with the Buccaneers. He has led Tampa Bay to the playoffs in each of his first two years with the franchise and has played like a legitimate star franchise quarterback. Last season, Mayfield played in all 17 regular season games. He completed a sizzling 71.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. Stephen A. Smith downplays Lakers' Luka Doncic's offseason body transformation
The post Stephen A. Smith downplays Lakers' Luka Doncic's offseason body transformation appeared first on ClutchPoints. As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare for the 2025–26 NBA season, much of the attention has centered around Luka Doncic's physical transformation. Doncic, entering his first full season with the Lakers following a midseason trade from Dallas, recently appeared on the cover of Men's Health, showcasing a noticeably leaner frame and improved conditioning. The 26-year-old star's revamped physique quickly became a talking point among NBA fans and media, with some suggesting this could mark a turning point in his career. However, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith offered a more measured perspective during Tuesday's edition of First Take, urging caution before declaring Doncic's transformation as a guaranteed game-changer. 'No. Not any more scared than they already are. I mean the brother is phenomenal as an offensive talent, no doubt about this,' Smith said, downplaying the potential impact on opponents. He continued by emphasizing the difference between offseason preparation and in-season consistency. 'But there's a difference between getting in shape in the offseason and staying in shape during the season, and that's something we have to monitor moving forward,' Smith said. 'The conditioning is not only imperative, but does that mean you're going to move without the ball instead of standing around and receive it? Does it mean that you're going to up your efforts continuously on the defensive side of the ball? That's where it's going to really, really show.' Doncic has often faced scrutiny for his conditioning throughout his career, despite his consistent production. Since entering the league in 2018, he has averaged 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game while establishing himself as one of the premier offensive engines in the NBA. Stephen A. Smith questions Luka Doncic's transformation as Lakers build new era around him His fitness was reportedly a point of frustration for the Dallas Mavericks, and one of several contributing factors that led to the franchise's decision to trade him to the Lakers at the February deadline. The deal sent Anthony Davis to Dallas and marked a seismic shift in Los Angeles' long-term direction. Now with the Lakers, expectations are heightened. Doncic joins a restructured roster featuring new additions such as Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton. Head coach JJ Redick enters his second season aiming to guide the Lakers back to title contention, with Doncic positioned as the centerpiece of the franchise's next era. Smith acknowledged the significance of Doncic's commitment to better conditioning but reiterated that the true test lies in sustained effort. 'It's nice to see him prioritize his conditioning because we know it's been an Achilles heel of his,' Smith said. 'He's a terrific basketball player, he's a superstar in this league, but how's it going to translate to the basketball court is not just about how you look, but the effort you put forth and it doesn't end in the offseason… that's when it starts.' Veteran forward LeBron James, who opted into his $52.6 million player option earlier this summer, recently shared a training video as he prepares for his 23rd NBA season. While the Lakers move forward with Doncic as the new focal point, James remains an integral presence both on and off the court.
