Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has gone viral for quite a few moments both during games and off the field. He has been known to be a fan of using smelling salts during games to stay as alert and fired up as possible.
Unfortunately for Mayfield, the NFL made the decision to ban the use of smelling salts.
Why did the league decide to make that change? The NFL does not believe that using smelling salts is safe.

While the move makes sense with concussions becoming a much bigger problem and handled more seriously, Mayfield is not a fan of the move. He was asked about the rule change.
During an appearance on the "Up & Adams Show," Mayfield spoke out with his thoughts on the matter.
"Now you just gotta bring your own juice to the party," Mayfield said. "I'm going to be severely affected to be honest with you."
Adams then asked Mayfield what will replace smelling salts in the NFL. Mayfield responded with a hilarious answer.
"Just more headbutts," he said.
Regardless of the smelling salts drama, Mayfield has turned his NFL career around with the Buccaneers. He has led Tampa Bay to the playoffs in each of his first two years with the franchise and has played like a legitimate star franchise quarterback.
Last season, Mayfield played in all 17 regular season games. He completed a sizzling 71.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. Mayfield also ran for 378 yards and three scores.

After being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, it has taken Mayfield some time to settle in. He has truly found a home with the Buccaneers.
Entering the 2025 season, Mayfield is now 30 years old. He still has quite a few years left in him playing at a high level. At least for now, Tampa Bay looks the part of a potential contender with Mayfield under center.
Mayfield likely will not suffer any negative effects on the field from not being able to use smelling salts. However, once again he was able to bring a laugh to fans.

Former Wisconsin Badger suffers season-ending injury in NFL joint practice
Sean Payton confirmed Matt Henningsen tore his Achilles on Thursday. Will have surgery when they get back to Denver and his season is over. Former Wisconsin and current Denver Broncos defensive lineman Matt Henningsen tore his Achilles during training camp practice last week, ending his 2025 season. According to 9NEWS' Mike Klis, the injury occurred during a one-on-one drill during the Broncos' joint practice against the San Francisco 49ers. Head coach Sean Payton announced that Henningsen will have surgery on the tendon when the team returns to Denver, after its Saturday preseason matchup against the 49ers. Henningsen is entering his fourth NFL season, all with the Broncos. The team originally selected him in the sixth round (No. 206 overall) in the 2022 NFL draft. The former Badger played in all 17 games in both 2022 and 2023, totaling a combined 40 tackles, two for loss and two quarterback hits. He then spent the 2024 season on the team's practice squad. The defensive lineman excelled in four years as a primary contributor on Wisconsin's defensive line. Removing a 2020 season cut short due to injury, Henningsen suited up for 40 total games from 2018-21 and totaled 89 tackles, 14 for loss, eight sacks, four pass deflections, three fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns. He was a key member of a 2021 Wisconsin defense that is considered the best in program history. Henningsen's focus will now have to turn to 2026 as he looks to continue his NFL career. Who is Dont'e Thornton? Meet the Raiders rookie WR turning heads in training camp
Who is Dont'e Thornton? Meet the Raiders rookie WR turning heads in training camp originally appeared on The Sporting News The Las Vegas Raiders drafted two wide receivers during the 2025 NFL draft, one of which was Tennessee product, Dont'e Thornton. Thornton was taken in the fourth round of April's draft, two rounds after Las Vegas took fellow wide receiver and TCU product, Jack Bech. Thornton began his college career at Oregon but transferred to Tennessee in 2023. In his four years in college (two at Oregon, two at Tennessee), Thornton caught 65 passes for 1,426 yards and 10 touchdowns. Thornton finished his college career with 26 catches for 661 yards and six touchdowns. How has Dont'e Thornton looked this offseason? While Thornton was expected to be a project at the next level, he has actually proven to be ahead of schedule. "Thornton was still thought to need plenty of polish to become a productive pro receiver," Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal said of Thornton during OTAs. "His college offense wasn't too sophisticated." "At OTAs, however, his footwork at the line of scrimmage appeared more advanced than advertised and his route running looked crisp. He could be further along than suspected," Bonsignore concluded. 'Dont'e Thornton, the dude we drafted from Tennessee, the big receiver,' Raiders star Maxx Crosby said of Thornton after OTAs. '6-foot-4, another freak, I think he might be 6-foot-5. Runs a 4.30 (in the 40-yard dash)…. It's crazy because a kid like that, he had success in college, but he hasn't hit his full potential yet. Seeing him on the field and realizing what he can be, from a player perspective, is like holy s***, this dude could be something serious.' Thornton has continued turning heads at training camp. 'Dont'e continues to do stuff… He's made tough catches over the middle. He's caught the slant routes where he's getting banged around. And he's comfortable with it,' head coach Pete Carroll said of the rookie during training camp. Is Dont'e Thornton a starter? Thanks to his impressive showing this offseason, Thornton was listed as a starter on the Raiders' first unofficial depth chart of 2025. Dont'e Thornton scouting report From : Strengths: Explosive vertically, with a career average of 21.9 yards per catch. Play strength and hand-fighting pull him past physical corners. Able to sink hips and gather quickly for comebacks. Talent to track, adjust and win contested deep throws. True speed to make house calls when catching on the move. Works away from coverage and toward the throw for quarterbacks. Weaknesses: Runs a three-route tree with slight variations. Value can be snuffed out by deep safety looks. Long strides are gradual and rounded on in-breaking routes. Separation burst from route breaks is average. Lacks decisiveness and wiggle after the catch. Dont'e Thornton's combine results Height: 6'5 Weight: 205 lbs Arm: 32 1/8'' Hand: 9 5/8" 40-yard dash: 4.3 Dont'e Thornton's college background Played in 51 career games with 12 starts over four collegiate seasons, including two seasons at Oregon (2021-22) before transferring to Tennessee for his final two seasons (2023-24). Finished his college career with 65 receptions for 1,426 yards (21.9 avg.) and 10 touchdowns. In 2024, recorded 26 receptions for 661 yards (25.4 avg.) and six touchdowns. His 25.4 average yards per reception led the FBS in 2024, while his six receptions of 50+ yards were the most in the FBS.
