Under leadership of PM Modi, India is making premium global education available at affordable cost: Dharmendra Pradhan
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 14 (ANI): Stressing that the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP), envisions India as a global study destination, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on Saturday, emphasised that with this initiative, they aim to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to position India as a global knowledge hub.
The Ministry of Education has taken a major step towards realising the goals of internationalisation of education as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In a ceremonial event titled 'Mumbai Rising: Creating an International Education City' held in Mumbai today, Letters of Intent (LoIs) were issued to five globally reputed universities from the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States of America and Italy.
The establishment of the branch campuses of University of York, University of Aberdeen, University of Western Australia, Illinois Institute of Technology and Instituto Europeo Di Design (IED), Italy, reflects a deep and growing trust in India's education ecosystem and is a major milestone as we mark five transformative years of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that NEP 2020 envisions India as a global study destination, offering premium education at an affordable cost. He added that with this initiative, we aim to realise the Prime Minister's vision of positioning India as a global knowledge hub. 'India is encouraging top international universities to establish campuses here, while empowering Indian Higher education institutions to expand globally,' he said.
Union Minister Pradhan further added that this initiative reflects a growing two-way movement of ideas, talent and trust. 'India is not just participating in the global education ecosystem; we are shaping it,' he asserted.
Pradhan said that Maharashtra's leadership in enterprise and intellect, and with Mumbai Educity emerging as a city where finance and technology meet education and research, Mumbai/Navi Mumbai will bridge Indian aspirations and global excellence. He further said that we are not just inviting foreign universities; we are co-creating ecosystems of innovation, entrepreneurship and research.
'As we mark five years of implementing the NEP 2020, this milestone exemplifies the spirit of Sankalp se Siddhi, the journey from resolution to realisation. It strengthens our shared goal of empowering youth and enabling innovation-led growth through education leading to Viksit Bharat,' the Union Minister said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the swift issuance of LoIs reflects the speed and commitment of the Government.
He thanked the PM for NEP 2020, which has a provision for foreign universities to be a part of the Indian education sector. The five universities, he noted, have added immense value to the State and NEP 2020 has truly opened doors for top global institutions to establish campuses in India.
He further stated that talented Indian students who faced accessibility and affordability issues in pursuing foreign education can now do so in India at reduced costs. 'The Government aims to make accessible, global quality education across various domains and further talks are ongoing with 5 more universities,' Fadnavis stated.
The LoIs handed over today allow the universities to establish their offshore branch campus in India. All five universities from UK, USA, Australia and Italy, receiving the LoIs are ranked among the top 500 in the QS World University Rankings, signifying strong global academic credibility. The University of Western Australia will establish two campuses, one each in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai and Chennai, reflecting the growing confidence of top institutions in India's regulatory and academic landscape.
This is the first-time foreign universities will establish a presence in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai, with some expected to set up campuses in the upcoming Education City in Navi Mumbai under the UGC (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations, 2023.
The establishment of these university campuses in India will be beneficial for students, in terms of extending global course curriculum and study opportunities in India and for research, knowledge exchange, enterprise and engagement. Courses at the Mumbai/Navi Mumbai/Chennai campus will be offered at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels in areas such as business, economics, computer science, public health, data science, design, and more. These are the disciplines that will drive India's development in the years ahead and shape the workforce of a 'Viksit Bharat.' The universities will launch more courses in the subsequent years of its operations in India. (ANI)

Speaker Gupta to pay tribute to Delhi's first CM Chaudhary Brahm Prakash tomorrow
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta will offer floral tributes to the National Capital's first Chief Minister Chaudhary Brahm Prakash on Monday on his 107th birth anniversary, an official said. Delhi government ministers and legislators will also pay tribute to the veteran leader at the Legislative Assembly's event to commemorate the birth anniversary of former CM and freedom fighter. The Assembly Secretariat has also made arrangement for Freedom Fighters to pay tribute to the first Delhi CM, an official said. Chaudhary Brahm Prakash became the first Delhi CM in 1952 and held the office till 1955. He also represented Delhi in Parliament and even served as Union minister, including as Minister for Food, Agriculture, Irrigation and Cooperatives. Earlier, Speaker Gupta hailed Chaudhary Brahm Prakash's efforts for upliftment of villagers and development in Delhi. On Saturday, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju commended Speaker Gupta for steps taken for the quick introduction of e-Vidhan (Paperless Assembly) system in Delhi Assembly for transparent and efficient governance. Laying the foundation of the e-Vidhan (Paperless Assembly) in the presence of Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, the Union Minister said: 'The laying of the foundation stone for the e-Vidhan Project at the Delhi Legislative Assembly is a commendable step towards adopting technology for legislative efficiency and transparency.' He recalled the days of President's Rule in Delhi in 2014 when he prayed for election of an efficient and dedicated government. 'Now, I can say Delhi has got an that kind of responsive government. The e-Vidhan system is being implemented within 108 days, with the sanction of Rs 9 crore,' he said. Calling a legislature the heart of a government and democracy, he said the efficiency of the Assembly is indispensable for an efficient government. 'This event marks a significant milestone in the digitisation of legislative governance,' he said. 'While several states have already implemented the e-Vidhan system successfully, it is encouraging to see Delhi joining this important national initiative. I am pleased to be part of this progressive development. I want to see the Delhi Assembly as a model assembly, and this initiative will certainly help in achieving that goal,' he said.

Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary calls on Telangana CM Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary on Sunday called on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy here. The union minister suggested to the CM that a Centre of Excellence be established for VFX, Gaming, and Audio-Visual sectors in Telangana as it would be useful in enhancing the skills of ITI students, an official release said. Responding to Chaudhary's suggestion, Reddy informed the union minister that the state government plans to set up the CoE within the upcoming Young India Skill University, and that the centre would be integrated with various ITIs. The union minister congratulated the chief minister on the establishment of the Young India Skill University. The CM requested the union minister to extend support to the university under the National Skill Training initiative. Chaudhary urged Reddy to provide free electricity to all ITIs. Responding to this, the CM immediately instructed officials to set up solar power systems in the ITIs in Telangana. The CM also directed the officials concerned to upgrade the syllabus in ITIs in line with the evolving needs of modern industries and ordered the formation of a special committee for the purpose, the release added. Reddy, in a post on 'X', said he had a wonderful interaction and a wide-ranging discussion with Jayant Chaudhary. Ever since both met for the first time at the inauguration of 'TelanganaRising' pavilion at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year, Chaudhary has become a big supporter of the passionate mission of Telangana in the area of skills development, Reddy said in the post. "Skills rule the world, and therefore, we must ensure our youth have the best skills in the world," is a mantra we seem to share. He has assured total support in several areas, where we are looking to collaborate and work together with the Central government," the CM said.
