Did Arsenal deal with Partey the right way? Arteta believes so

Malay Mail2 days ago
LONDON, July 21 — Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he is '100 per cent' confident the club correctly handled former midfielder Thomas Partey who continued playing for the Gunners while under police investigation.
Arterta said this when responding to questions about the club's handling of the incident, during a pre-season stop in Singapore, BBC reported.
Partey, 32, left Arsenal on June 30 when his contract expired and was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault four days later.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the offences reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022.
These charges involve three women, with varying counts of rape and sexual assault linked to each.
Partey's lawyer maintains his client denies the charges and welcomes the opportunity to clear his name.
A police investigation into the allegations began in February 2022 following an initial report of rape.
During Arsenal's pre-season tour in Singapore, Arteta addressed media questions regarding Partey's situation.
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5.

Harimau Malaya Can Expect Stern Tests In Sept Friendlies Against Singapore, Palestine

PETALING JAYA, July 23 (Bernama) -- Harimau Malaya will take on Singapore and Palestine in two Tier 1 international football friendlies in September. National team head coach Peter Cklamovski said the 'Causeway Derby' against world number 159 Singapore will be on Sept 4, while the match against world number 98 Palestine will be on Sept 8. Even though the venue is not confirmed yet, Cklamovski hopes both matches, which will be part of Malaysia's preparations for their third Group F match of the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers against Laos in October, will be played at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. bootstrap slideshow The Australian tactician said both teams were carefully chosen for their unique attributes and the kind of test they provide for the squad's continued development following the emphatic 4-0 victory over Vietnam in their second Group F match of the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers on the home ground last month. 'Singapore's a good team. The game will have (lots of) emotions. It's a derby and we look forward to it. It's not so much about rankings, where they place. It's going to be a tough game. 'Palestine has qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup and is ranked in the top 100. So, it's a challenge for us to go up against a good opponent and see where we stand against them. We want to put our mark on the game, play our football, put a team out there that will make Malaysians proud and excited,' he said during a coffee session with the media here today. As both matches are set to bring added value in terms of player development and tactical growth, Cklamovski has made it clear that their main objective is to win both games. He also said that despite the national team's 4-0 win over Vietnam in June, the focus now is to keep building and improving during the upcoming friendlies. 'Yes, we played well, we scored some good goals, we could have scored more. Positive night, special night at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Youth claims trial to raping cousin when she was 7 and 12

The court allowed the accused to post bail of RM3,000 and ordered him to report to the nearest police station every month. (Pexels pic) PETALING JAYA : A youth has claimed trial to raping his cousin sister in Tuaran, Sabah, on two occasions, once when she was seven and five years later when she was 12. The 19-year-old was charged in the Kota Kinabalu sessions court with committing the offences on the victim sometime in 2019 and 2024, Daily Express reported. The charges were framed under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years in prison and whipping upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Bryan Francis had urged the court not to allow the accused bail as he was a relative of the victim and posed a 'risk' to witnesses in the case. Lawyers acting for the accused pleaded for bail, saying their client is unemployed, had voluntarily come forward to assist in investigations, and also had to care for his parents who were ill. Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan allowed the accused bail at RM3,000 but ordered him to report to the nearest police station every month and not to have any contact with the victim.
