Micro-industries will be set up in each Assembly constituency for economic empowerment of women: Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a public meeting in Luxettipet town of Mancherial district on Sunday. Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for a 1MW solar power plant of Indira Mahila Shakti women SHGs at an estimated cost of ₹3 crore at Andugulapet village in the district.
Minister for IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu, Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha and Prohibition & Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and others accompanied him.
The State government is considering launching a special development plan for Adilabad district, he said, recalling the overwhelming response he received from people of the erstwhile Adilabad district during his People's March padayatra before the 2023 Assembly elections.
'We have focused on allocating solar power projects to women's SHGs, he noted, asserting that the government will work for the economic empowerment of women despite financial challenges,' he said.
He criticised the BRS government for abandoning interest-free loans for women, which were introduced by the successive Congress governments in the past. Now, the Congress government has revived the scheme, he added.
In pursuit of our goal to make one crore women into crorepatis, we have distributed interest-free loans worth ₹21,600 crore in the form of cheques to women's SHGs in the first year itself, Mr. Vikramarka said.
He added that the cheques were being handed over to women SHGs in Mancherial on the occasion as part of the ongoing disbursement of interest-free loans across the State.
He noted that the women's groups were provided security and loan support in purchasing buses, which were then leased to Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC). So far, 150 buses have been leased out to the TGSRTC, and a lease amount of ₹1 crore has been received by the women's groups, he said, adding that the remaining 450 buses will also be leased out to the TGSRTC soon.

‘Cap is red, intention is black': Maurya on SP's appeasement policy
1 2 Prayagraj: Using the slogan "cap is red, intention is black" to describe Samajwadi Party 's intentions, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Sunday criticized the opposition party for having an "appeasement mindset". Attacking the Congress, he said, "By taking the support of fake and false crutches of secularism and socialism, the grand old party had long dreamt of tightening its grip on the power of the country. But the wheel of time broke this spell. Despite this, it is still hoping for power with these worn-out crutches." "Understanding the difference between faith and market is not something that 'goons' can do," said Maurya, who was in the Sangam City to participate in 'Ek Vriksha Maa Ke Naam' event. Maurya also interacted with party leaders and workers at Amar Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Circuit House and urged them to gear up for the 2027 UP assembly polls with full commitment, aiming to replicate the party's success in the 2017 assembly and 2014 parliamentary elections. Asking the cadre to work towards increasing the party's vote count in the elections, he asked them to be cautious and vigilant, focusing on the 2027 elections and ensuring the public is aware of the govt's welfare schemes and policies. He noted that while the opposition gained some traction in 2024 by spreading misinformation, they lost momentum in subsequent elections in Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi. "The same will happen to them in 2027, and the BJP govt will be formed. We will repeat 2017 in 2027 and make the lotus bloom," he claimed. Exuding confidence that the NDA will secure majority in Bihar, the deputy CM said that Nitish Kumar is going to have a big victory in the state. Taking about Kanwar Yatra, he said, "If any information regarding the violation of the sanctity of kanwariyas is received, inform the police immediately and strict action will follow."

CIA in White House: Issue being probed, says Ford
Chicago, July 13: Charges that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had penetrated the White House during the Nixon Administration were being investigated, President Ford said on Saturday. He expressed confidence that the facts would become known as a result of his own efforts, the expected inquiry by Congress and digging by the American press. Mr. Ford was replying to questions at a news conference here. Asked about alleged CIA penetration of the White House and other Government departments, Mr. Ford replied: 'As far as I know personally, there are no people presently employed in the White House who have relationships with the CIA of which I am personally unaware.' Mr. Ford's denial came at the end of a week which heard allegations, during a Senate Committee Inquiry into alleged illegal activities of the CIA, that the Agency had men within the White House. One report had linked Alexander Butterfield, a former high-ranking White House official to the CIA, but Mr. Ford said there was no precise information on this. Mr. Butterfield disclosed to the committee looking into the Watergate scandals that Presidential conversations at the White House had been taperecorded.

Devanahalli land row: Prominent personalities seek intervention of Congress high command
Ahead of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's July 15 meeting with Devanahalli farmers who are seeking shelving of land acquisition, 65 prominent personalities, including historian Ramachandra Guha and writer Devanur Mahadeva, have sought immediate intervention of the Congress high command to provide justice to farmers. In an open letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, the prominent personalities have appealed to him to act with urgency and foresight to ensure that the Government of Karnataka honours its word and stands by farmers who are demanding that process of acquisition of 1,777 acres of land in 13 villages of Channarayapatna hobli in Devanahalli taluk for the proposed aerospace park be shelved. 'This is the moment to stand not only with the people — but for the principles they entrusted you to uphold,' said these personalities who include environmentalist N. Yellappa Reddy, theatre artists B. Jayashree and Arundhati Nag, agricultuiral economist Prakash Kammaradi, progressive writer Vijayamma, and film-maker Girish Kasaravalli besides a host of former Vice-Chancellors. They expressed concern over some people in the government voicing apprehensions that meeting the farmers' demands may hinder development or drive industries to neighbouring States. 'This narrative appears to be paving the way for delays or a possible retreat from the commitment (made before the Assembly elections to farmers that their land acquisition will be shelved). Such backtracking will not only erode the credibility of the State government, but seriously damage the Congress party's standing among rural and agrarian communities,' they warned. 'Ahead of the July 15 meeting with farmers, we urge the Karnataka government to initiate inclusive consultations — including industry leaders — to evolve a comprehensive, transparent, and balanced land acquisition and industrial land use policy,' they said. Pointing out that 163 affected farmers belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and much of this land was granted to them under land reform schemes, they argued that such land cannot be acquired or transferred without special permissions and protections. Circumventing these would violate constitutional guarantees and the spirit of social justice, they contended.
