(Bernama pic) Kuala Lumpur: The High Court has allowed the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) another month to review and decide on representations made by Najib Razak in connection with his RM27 million SRC International Sdn Bhd money laundering case. Justice K Muniandy allowed the extension at case management today following an oral application by deputy public prosecutor Ashrof Adrin Kamarul. 'The intention is to provide a decision by next month but I'm not at liberty to say if it is negative or positive,' he said. Meanwhile, senior counsel Shafee Abdullah who represented the former prime minister asked the court to grant Najib a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA). He said the matter had been hanging for far too long. 'We put in the representations as early as July 31, 2023. 'The representations, in terms of facts, have not changed. It's the same representations for which we have not received any reply from the AGC. 'In view of the fact that it is going to be two years since the representations were submitted, may I formally ask Yang Arif if you would grant a DNAA on this matter. 'We are only asking for a DNAA, if they (prosecution) want to reignite the case they can always do that,' he said. Ashrof said the prosecution would leave the matter to the discretion of the court. Muniandy then fixed a case management on June 11 and ordered Najib to be present on that day. The prosecution was also asked to be prepared to make submissions on the defence's DNAA application. Najib, 71, is asking for the three money laundering charges, brought against him in February 2019, to be withdrawn. In a later case which began on April 3, 2019, Najib was slapped with seven charges of abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust involving RM42 million in SRC International funds. On July 28, 2020, the High Court convicted the former prime minister of all seven charges. His appeal to the Court of Appeal was dismissed on Dec 8, 2021 and the Federal Court on Aug 23, 2022. He is currently serving a reduced six-year prison term after receiving a partial pardon in January last year. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Najib's RM27mil case to go on
--fotoBERNAMA (2025) HAK CIPTA TERPELIHARA KUALA LUMPUR: The RM27mil money laundering case involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak and SRC International Sdn Bhd will go on now that the Attorney General's Chambers has rejected the former prime minister's plea to review the charges. During case management yesterday, deputy public prosecutor Mohd Ashroff Adrin Kamarul informed Justice K. Muniandy that the AGC had rejected the former Pekan MP's representation. He said the prosecution was ready to proceed with the trial but sought a later hearing date to sort out the documents in the case. 'There are 807 exhibits tendered in the previous SRC International trial. 'Many of the exhibits in that trial are required in this trial and that will require a bit of time. We humbly seek a longer trial date,' he said. Najib's lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, in his reply, urged the court to grant a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) due to the prolonged delay in the case. A DNAA means a person is discharged from the charges without being acquitted and could face future prosecution for the same offence. Justice Muniandy then fixed June 20 to deliver his decision on whether to set trial dates or grant a DNAA. On Feb 3, 2019, Najib claimed trial to three charges of money laundering by accepting proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to RM27mil through his three AmPrivate Banking accounts at AmIslamic Bank Berhad, AmBank Group Building, Jalan Raja Chulan on July 8, 2014, under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. He faces a maximum fine of RM5mil or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, if convicted.

Teoh's family slams ex-boss' silence on NFA decision
The family of Teoh Beng Hock has condemned former Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah for his continued silence over the Attorney-General's Chambers'(AGC) decision to classify Beng Hock's case as no further action. In a scathing Facebook post, Beng Hock's sister Teoh Lee Lan expressed deep frustration that Ean Yong (above) - her brother's superior at the time of his death - has yet to speak up or take a clear stand, even 21 days after the AGC's NFA decision was made public. "Sixteen years on, and you remain...

Dozens nabbed for running Bali love scam targeting American men
The scammers chatted up their victims through Telegram and sent them fake links. (EPA Images pic) DENPASAR : Indonesian police have arrested dozens on the popular resort island of Bali for allegedly running a love scam syndicate targeting American men, they said today. Police made the arrests after being tipped off about suspicious activity at a rented home in Denpasar, the island's capital. A total of 38 suspects, seven of them women, were arrested. 'They pretended to be women by using women's pictures and fake identity to ensnare their victims,' Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya told a press conference. The scammers confessed they were working for someone who controlled the business from Cambodia to lure American men to hand over sensitive information, he said. They chatted up their victims through the Telegram messenger app and sent them fake links. The suspects were paid US$200 each per month to steal the victims' data and information, Daniel said. The suspects, all Indonesians, face up to 12 years in prison if found guilty of violating the country's electronic transaction law. Police had previously said many scammers had moved to Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries after China cracked down on domestic networks. In 2019, Indonesian police arrested 85 Chinese nationals and six Indonesians over an online scam that tricked victims out of millions of dollars. In 2023, they arrested 88 Chinese nationals in Batam, in the Indonesian province of Riau Islands, for running a syndicate that has scammed hundreds of victims in China by luring them into sexual acts and then blackmailing them with video footage. Many of the victims were public officials, police said.
