Onn Hafiz: Johor not asking for handouts, just a fair return
The proposed revenue share is intended to fast-track essential infrastructure upgrades, improve healthcare delivery, enhance flood mitigation efforts and expand social welfare services across the state.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the proposal was rooted in economic reality and state interest, not politics.
"Johor has consistently proven itself to be one of the top contributors to Malaysia's economy.
"We are not asking for handouts… we are asking for a fair return to continue driving national progress," he said in a post uploaded on his Facebook today.
Onn Hafiz added that the request reflected Johor's position as a strategic economic engine, not merely a statistical contributor to federal coffers.
In the first quarter of 2025, Johor recorded RM30.1 billion in approved investments, the highest in the country.
In 2024, Johor also led in GDP growth with 6.4 per cent, exceeding the national average of 5.1 per cent.
In agriculture, the state posted RM27.2 billion in sales, the highest nationwide.
"If just a quarter of what we contribute can be reinvested into Johor, the returns will benefit not only our people but the entire country," he added.
Onn Hafiz said the proposal was made in the spirit of cooperation with Putrajaya, not confrontation, and aligned with a broader vision of fiscal equity and shared prosperity.
Yesterday, Tunku Ismail urged the federal government to return 25 per cent of Johor's income tax revenue, citing the delayed opening of Pasir Gudang Hospital as a clear sign of underfunding.
Tunku Ismail expressed disappointment over the postponement of Pasir Gudang Hospital's opening, which was initially scheduled to begin phased operations next month but has now been delayed to January next year.

Liew: PN must offer vision, not just angry noise
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia needs an opposition that offers solutions, not just protests, Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong said following a rally demanding Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's resignation. He made the remarks in a Facebook post after the July 26 gathering at Dataran Merdeka, which he said reflected more anger than direction. "Their leaders must understand that being an opposition that only releases anger to manipulate emotions, especially among Malays, will take the country nowhere," he wrote. Liew said that PN, which holds nearly one-third of the seats in Dewan Rakyat, has the opportunity to play a meaningful role in a healthy democracy — if it chooses to move beyond populist anger. He pointed to the aftermath of the 2020 Sheraton Move as an example of responsible political conduct. Liew said in the wake of the political crisis, DAP's Anthony Loke persuaded party colleagues to work toward stability through bipartisan cooperation with Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's administration, leading to a memorandum of understanding that ensured continuity in government policies. In contrast, he said that PN remains divided and without clear direction. Liew said Bersatu continues to face internal leadership struggles, while Pas appears locked in a rigid ideological stance. Without a coherent vision or practical policy proposals, PN risks alienating broader segments of the electorate. "With no constructive proposals or coherent vision, PN will struggle to appeal beyond its base," he said. "Democracy in Malaysia deserves a better opposition — one that puts the country first," Liew added.

King appoints new Chief Justice, judges at Istana Negara
KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, today presented the instrument of appointment to the new Chief Justice, President of the Court of Appeal, Court of Appeal Judges, and High Court Judges at Istana Negara. 'Segulai sejalai' key to Kapit's development, says Nanta

In a Facebook post following the Kapit Division Thanksgiving and Appreciation Night last night, Nanta stressed that past political disunity had hindered development efforts in the area. He pointed out that when politics was fragmented and not united as a team, development was slow and difficult to implement. 'Now, with politics under one roof through Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), and elected representatives cooperating well, Kapit has made remarkable progress. Although the people still yearn for more development, we have come a long way, and going much closer to realising the dream we once had,' said Nanta, who is also GPS secretary-general. He added that stable politics and close collaboration among elected representatives allow government agencies and departments, supported by community leaders and village heads (KMKK), to carry out their duties more effectively and smoothly. Reflecting on changes in leadership and priorities over the years, Nanta noted that previous administrations had focused more on industrialisation, often at the expense of rural areas. 'But now, the focus has shifted significantly. In fact, Kapit is becoming the envy of other areas, thanks to the strong cooperation among all stakeholders,' he remarked. He urged for this spirit of teamwork to be maintained to ensure development continues to reach every corner of the division. The event also saw Nanta presenting tokens of appreciation to retiring civil servants and those who have been transferred to other postings.
