Aaron Civale leads White Sox pitchers to shutout of Angels
Civale (3-6) walked two, struck out a season-high eight batters and departed after throwing 94 pitches, 55 for strikes. Eisert followed up with 1 2/3 perfect innings and Leasure pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his third save
Civale has made three starts since the All-Star break and allowed just one unearned run and seven hits over 17 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out 20 while lowering his ERA from 5.30 to 3.99.
Brooks Baldwin had two hits and a walk and Kyle Teel went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for Chicago, which won its third straight game and improved to 10-4 since the All-Star break. It was the 42nd win of the season for the White Sox, eclipsing the team's win total for the entire 2024 campaign when it finished 41-121 -- the worst record in modern American League history.
Los Angeles starter Kyle Hendricks (6-8) suffered the loss, allowing one run on four hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out two.
Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Luis Robert Jr. led off with a single, stole second, tagged and advanced to third on a flyout by Colson Montgomery and scored on Teel's single to center.
Zach Neto led off the bottom of the fourth with an infield single up the third base line and Nolan Schanuel followed with a walk to give the Angels runners at first and second with no outs. But Civale got out of the jam by getting Taylor Ward to strike out, Jo Adell to pop out to short and Yoan Moncada to strike out.
Los Angeles, which fell 5 1/2 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final wild-card spot in the American League, played its second straight game without outfielder Mike Trout (illness).
Chicago infielder Miguel Vargas was a late scratch with a left oblique strain.

August 4 - The Miami Dolphins endured a rough few days on the practice field as they ramp up for their preseason opener next week. Right tackle Austin Jackson sustained a lower leg injury on Friday, knocking him out for a matter of weeks, and fullback Alec Ingold wound up in concussion protocol after getting hurt in practice on Sunday. Jackson missed more than half of the 2024 season due to a knee injury, but coach Mike McDaniel emphasized on Sunday that the latest ailment is unrelated. "He got the (new) injury playing football and got stepped on. It has nothing to do with anything but that," McDaniel said Sunday. "And with Austin, the bottom line for me where he's at ... he knocked some rust off, he got back and, in my opinion, exceeded where he was playing before. So we're fortunate that that timetable (for his absence) doesn't seem to be into the regular season." Jackson, 25, has started 54 of his 56 NFL games for the Dolphins since they selected him with the 18th overall pick in the 2020 draft out of Southern California. The Dolphins added to their offensive line depth on Sunday by signing Germain Ifedi. A first-round pick of Seattle in 2016, he has played for the Seahawks (2016-19), the Chicago Bears (2020-21), the Atlanta Falcons (2022) and the Cleveland Browns (2024). Last year, he appeared in 15 games and made five starts. Ingold, 29, played three seasons with the Raiders before spending the past three years in Miami, including a Pro Bowl season in 2023. Bruno Fernandes criticised Manchester United for being 'lazy' in their draw with Everton in Atlanta, and claimed that it underlined the need for the club to bring in more new signings this summer. United ended their US tour by winning the Premier League Summer Series and remaining unbeaten in pre-season, but were twice pegged back at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. 'Our performance wasn't the best off the ball,' he said. 'We were a little bit lazy and we have to avoid that because the laziness you can pay at any moment. 'It's improving. It's not where we want it to be. I don't want to have a dig at anyone, but I think the club is doing the best they can in terms of all the financial situations they talk about. 'I don't know about it, I'm not involved in that. But obviously it was crystal clear we needed more competition for the players that were here. We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a bit more, to have to do more to get into the starting XI. I think that's what the club and the manager are trying to do, and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that. 'Every small detail matters. At this football club you can't do anything wrong on the pitch and off the pitch because it's too big worldwide and you get punished by that. 'You get the attention of the media and your fans and you have to be aware of that. At this club the culture here was winning and we need to bring that back. Not only the winning mentality that we need, and I think that's always been there, but obviously if you don't win you don't show it. 'The club is trying to improve other things. The facilities have improved, we tried to improve the team, the staff, a lot of things.
