Yankees vs. Rays prediction: MLB best bets, picks for Wednesday

Cam Schlitter's homer-suppressing tendencies haven't transferred over to the big leagues. The Yankees' rookie has allowed six long balls in 29 ⅔ innings since his big league debut on July 9. Schlitter's 1.82 homers allowed per nine innings is the 19th-highest among MLB pitchers with at least 29 innings pitched in that span. When Schlitter takes the mound on Wednesday against the Rays in Tampa Bay, I'm targeting the red-hot Junior Caminero to get the best of the right-hander. Last time Schlitter faced the Rays on July 28, Caminero took him deep in his first-ever plate appearance against him, hitting a 397-foot bomb to left field. Caminero has been on a ridiculous power-hitting run since the calendar turned to August. Tampa Bay Rays' Junior Caminero celebrates after hitting a solo home run during the second inning of a baseball game against the San Francisco Giants, Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, in San Francisco. AP His eight home runs this month are tied with A's slugger Shea Langeliers for the most in Major League Baseball heading into Tuesday's play. Since the All-Star break, Caminero's .624 slugging percentage is the seventh-highest in the league. Caminero has also been a much different hitter on the Rays' home field, taking full advantage of the dimensions at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Learn all you need to know about MLB Betting He's hitting .323/.359/.620 at home compared to just .194/.240/.439 on the road this season. I like Caminero to homer on Wednesday, but bettors could play it a little safer by taking the young slugger to go Over 1.5 total bases. The play: Junior Caminero to hit a home run (+320, FanDuel) and to have more than 1.5 total bases (+110, Bet365) Why Trust New York Post Betting Dylan Svoboda is a versatile writer and analyst across many sports. Pirates hope call-up of MLB's top pitching prospect gives them Paul Skenes boost
Pirates hope call-up of MLB's top pitching prospect gives them Paul Skenes boost originally appeared on The Sporting News The Pittsburgh Pirates hope the next Paul Skenes is on his way to the big leagues. According to insider Alex Stumpf, the Pirates are planning to call up the top pitching prospect in baseball, Bubba Chandler. Armed with a high-90s fastball, Chandler is ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the game, according to MLB Pipeline, and is the top pitching prospect in baseball. Stumpf posted on X that "Chandler will be used as a bulk reliever with/ the Pirates. The team views him as a starter long term, and he can get starts this year, but the club wants him to get Major League experience, and this is consistent with the role/expectations of other young pitchers like (Braxton) Ashcraft." Chandler, 22, seemed primed for an early-season call-up before struggling with command over the last few months. He posted a 5-6 record with a 4.05 ERA over 100 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates' initial plan for Chandler was to manage his workload, like they did in 2024 with Paul Skenes. The goal was to have Chandler fully stretched out in May, but his problems with command forced them to revise the plan. When the Pirates traded Bailey Falter in July, general manager Ben Cherington shared a goal to give opportunities to pitchers who could be part of their 2026 rotation plans. Chandler will comprise the Pirates' young pitching core alongside Skenes and Jared Jones. Chandler will retain his rookie status if he pitches fewer than 50 innings down the stretch.
