Man Utd using critics to fuel their bid to hit the ground running
United came 15th last term – their worst top-flight finish in 51 years – and lost the Europa League final to put the lid on a miserable and financially-damaging campaign.
Mount knows the team 'need to repay' United's fans, who appear to be heading into Sunday's game with a sense of optimism following a positive summer and some impressive recruits.
'It's a clean slate and we're so excited to be able to have that opportunity,' the midfielder said.
'A lot of people have said a lot of stuff about us as a group, and we ball that up and we use that energy in the best way we can, and that's on the football pitch against other teams, and really competing and fighting for those three points.'
Mount says the players 'want to put it right' and are relishing the chance to take on last season's Premier League runners-up this weekend.
'Every game that we'll be playing will have that kind of focus to be able to perform and really kick on, and put what was wrong right this season coming,' he told Inside United.

'To start off with that game, it doesn't get much better than that.'
United have been boosted ahead of the opener by last weekend's arrival of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in a deal worth up to £73.7million.
Whether the 22-year-old is ready to start against Arsenal remains to be seen, but he adds energy, and goals, along with fellow big-name summer arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
'I think for us it's so important to start well, to start quick, to start with that intensity,' Mount said.
'We're a team that definitely can push with that and win games with that intensity and the way we want to press, the way we want to move the ball and dominate the ball, and create chances.
'That's the way the manager wants to play, so it's exciting for us to see what we're doing in training and put that into the games.
'I think to start with that game (against Arsenal) is going to be massive for us, to start on the front foot and really push forward.'

'As footballers, we always say that you become a man very early. But in other ways, you're still a boy,' Mac Allister wrote for Players' Tribune, reflecting on his time at Brighton in 2020. 'I was calling my mom on FaceTime every day, asking how to turn on the oven and where to put the detergent. And being alone, without playing, you get depressed. 'Many don't know this, but by that Christmas, with no fans in the stadiums, I had my bags packed. Literally, they were packed. I had two offers to leave — one from Russia and another from Spain, and my mind was made up. 'My mom was back in Buenos Aires, and I called her one day crying my eyes out, telling her, 'I quit. I can't do this anymore. But moms…. They always know what to say, don't they?' Mac Allister clearly listened to his mother's advice and stayed put at Brighton. When the Premier League resumed, he featured in all except one of the Seagulls' games. After a spell in and out of the team, Mac Allister became a regular starter the following season, with his displays eventually earning him a recall to the Argentina squad months before the 2022 World Cup. Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp later came calling for the World Cup winner, with Mac Allister being part of a midfield overhaul that laid the foundations for Arne Slot 's title-winning side. Mac Allister, who also paid an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota, is acutely aware of how differently his career could have gone if he had ignored his mother in 2020. 'I have to give a big hug to my mother,' Mac Allister said. 'Without her, none of this would have happened. I would not be a Premier League champion. I certainly would not be a World Cup champion. Maybe you would not even know my name.' He added: 'Can you imagine if I had left for Spain? For Russia? I would be an answer in one of those pub quizzes they have in England. 'Next question: who was the Argentinian guy with the Irish name who played 15 games for Brighton? Ahhhh, damn. Who was that guy? Mac something… What happened to him?' But no, that was not my fate. My mom saved me.' Mac Allister made 35 appearances as Liverpool won the Premier League title by 10 points last term. As he prepares to help the Reds defend their crown, the midfielder admits to being proud of not giving up on his dream. 'In 2020, my name was nothing. I couldn't get a game for Brighton,' Mac Allister recalled. 'I was crying with my mom on FaceTime, begging to come home. Two years later, I was a World Cup Champion. Then a Copa América champion. Now I'm a Premier League champion. Even a Ballon D'Or nominee. 'That's football, no? It's so crazy. The only way that I can explain my story is that I never gave up. That's what I'd like to teach my daughter in a few years. Yes, Daddy fought against a lot of things, but he knew how to overcome them all. You just keep fighting. That's the great lesson.'

Wrexham are said to be considering a move for former Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, who was highly praised during his time at Aston Villa by then-manager Steven Gerrard Wrexham have turned their attentions to making a swoop for a former Arsenal star who's loved by Steven Gerrard after completing a £10million move for Nathan Broadhead. The Hollywood-backed club broke their transfer record for the third time this summer after signing the Ipswich Town forward on Thursday. No sooner had the ink dried on that deal than reports emerged that Wrexham are now eyeing former Gunners centre-back Calum Chambers as their next recruit. Despite already bringing in nine new faces, manager Phil Parkinson is understood to be eager to land at least one additional defender before the transfer window shuts. Chambers started his career at Southampton as a youngster before moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2014. Chambers' adaptability is said to make him an attractive prospect to Parkinson, with the seasoned defender able to slot into various roles, including in a three-man backline. During his time at Villa Park, he earned praise from the club's then-manager Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool legend hailed Chambers' qualities after he rounded off a 3-0 league win against Leeds United in March 2022 with a stunning goal. "He's been class, on and off the pitch," Gerrard said. "He's been a real pleasure to work with. I thought that was the knockout blow tonight, to get the third goal in the way that we did it. "That was the knockout blow and from that moment it was about keeping a clean sheet and everyone defensively getting their buzz out of it as well because everyone's responsible for scoring goals and everyone's got to be responsible for keeping the ball out as well." Chambers, who was recently handed the captain's armband at Cardiff, was quizzed last week about the setback of dropping down a division in his debut season. While news of Wrexham's interest had yet to emerge, he maintained his commitment to his current club at the time. "I'm happy to be here," he said. "You can't predict what's gonna happen in football. You've just got to enjoy the journey and that's what I'm doing. The manager's been amazing since he's come in. "Pre-season has gone really well. Everyone is buzzing, the boys are really excited, with the style and the identity we have now, I think it works amazingly with the group and the players that we have. Friends and family watched as their relationship blossomed alongside Diogo's own rise through the footballing ranks. From local youth clubs to making his mark in the Premier League, Rute was always by his side, a constant support during the pressures of professional sport. Together, they built a family, welcoming three children over the years. Son Dinis was born in 2021, while Duarte was born in 2023. Their daughter arrived in November 2024. Those close to the family described Diogo as a devoted father who cherished every moment with his children, sometimes sharing snaps with his followers online. Dream wedding After years together, the couple finally tied the knot on June 22, 2025, in an intimate ceremony in Porto. The wedding was attended by friends, family, and teammates who gathered to witness the union. The couple shared glimpses of the special day on social media, with Diogo captioning a post, "A day we will never forget," and Rute responding, "My dream came true." The footballer replied, "But I'm the lucky one". The wedding day itself was a picture of happiness, from their first dance to moments of quiet intimacy shared between the couple. It seemed to mark the beginning of the next chapter in their lives, but sadly 11 days later news broke of Diogo's fatal crash. Stunning pictures shared via Instagram show the couple beaming from ear to ear in front of a church altar, with Rute looking breathtaking in an ivory dress and flowing veil. Another snap shows the couple emerging from the church amid a flurry of confetti, embarking on what should have been the first exciting steps of a long and happy life together. Just 11 days after their wedding, Diogo and his brother André Silva were killed in a catastrophic car crash on Spain's A‑52 highway. Reports indicate that their Lamborghini suffered a tyre blowout, veered off the road, and caught fire, leaving no chance for escape. Heartbreakingly, Diogo's final social media post was the couple's wedding video that was posted less than 24 hours before the accident. Special vow to three children Diogo is survived by two sons and a daughter who was born in December 2024. Just a month before his daughter arrived, the footballer opened up about mental health and family life in a video on his club's YouTube channel. Sitting down with Lee Richardson, the club's performance psychologist, Diogo highlighted how football, being a team sport, can sometimes allow players to mask their feelings. "As a team sport, you can sometimes hide or benefit from what the team is doing or not. And in those individual sports, like boxing, Olympians, [they're by] themselves. So when they are not good, you can clearly see something is wrong," he shared. The doting father went on to discuss his children, explaining that even after being on the pitch all day, he had to be "on it" when he came home to his family. He shared: "When I go home after playing, I still have a family. I have two kids, three almost, and the dogs, and the stress, it doesn't stop. In a poignant vow to his family, he said: "You want to be the best father you can be". The star added: "[You] try to lead by example, give him good feedback, even though sometimes you want to get a bit more rest in the afternoon, and they are all happy because you're finally at home and they want to play. I had this yesterday after the game. I wanted to get a bit of rest. One of my kids wanted to play some football and you need to be on it." Wife's statement The brothers had been heading to the Spanish port of Santander so Jota could return to Liverpool for pre-season training. Their funeral took place in their hometown of Gondomar, near Porto. Rute made her first statement following his death on the one month anniversary of their wedding, posting three pictures from their big day, including a close up of the pair holding hands. She captioned the post: "1 month of our 'until death do us part'."
