Parents Halt 'Financial Support' for Son's Wedding After His Fiancée's 'Catfish Loyalty Test' is Revealed
A parent shared in a Reddit post that they have cut off their "financial support" for their son's upcoming wedding after making a dismaying discovery
The Redditor learned that their son's fiancée "catfished him to test his loyalty"
"I don't want to support a marriage that already starts with lies and games from both sides," the parent wroteA parent says they decided to cut off their "financial support" for their son's upcoming wedding after discovering something shocking.
In a post on Reddit's popular "Am I the A------" forum, the parent shared that their 23-year-old son, who got engaged a few months ago, recently came to them and admitted that he had been texting with a woman he met on Tinder.
"That alone already shocked me... he's engaged, and that's obviously not acceptable behavior," the OP (original poster) wrote.
But as it turns out, there was a major "twist" to the story.
"The girl on Tinder was actually his fiancée. She made a fake account to 'test' whether he would stay loyal — and when he flirted back, she confronted him," the OP revealed.
While the OP acknowledged that what their son did was "messed up," they were taken aback by their future daughter-in-law's plot to catch him out.
"Creating a whole fake profile to trap your partner? That's manipulation. If you have to run sting operations to trust your fiancé, maybe you shouldn't be getting married," they pointed out.
The OP said that after learning what their son's fiancée had been up to, they decided to pull their funding for the wedding.
"I told my son I wouldn't be paying for the wedding anymore. I don't want to support a marriage that already starts with lies and games from both sides," they wrote.
However, some family members have accused the OP of "overreacting and punishing them both." Seeking other opinions, the OP asked fellow Reddit users to weigh in on the sticky situation.
In the comments, many readers agreed that the couple is clearly not ready for marriage — but not only because of the fiancée's behavior.
"Sorry, but your son being on a dating website while planning a wedding — while his fiancée was tricking him. That doesn't sound like a healthy relationship. And honestly, if the girl is smart, she should break it off. As it shows that your son isn't loyal (again, because of being on a dating app)," one person wrote.
"Unless there is an agreement between them, that they are allowed to date outside of their relationship, this is a big red flag," they added.

"You do seem to have more anger at the girlfriend than at your son, and that's an interesting take," another commenter said. "If she was your daughter and told you she found evidence suggesting her fiancé was on Tinder looking for hook-ups, would you still think so harshly of her?"
That same person argued that the son's fiancée was right to be concerned about his online habits. "She obviously had a reason to suspect something was going on behind her back, and she was correct. Why is an engaged man on Tinder in the first place?" they asked.
Another reader assured the OP that they're not an "a------" for withdrawing their financial support for the wedding.
"These people should not be getting married. And while you can't prevent it, you're under no obligation to pay for the wedding," they said. "Also, there's a difference between withdrawing an offer of a generous gift and 'punishing' someone."

Woman Wants to Divorce Husband Over 'Cruel' Punishment of His Daughter
A woman took to the internet, conflicted about how her husband wanted to punish his daughter for her actions at school Her husband wanted to send his daughter to school without letting her shower, brush her teeth, or change clothes after a comment she made about a girl's 'poor' mom The woman has since moved to divorce the manA woman was left conflicted about how her husband wanted to punish his daughter for her actions at school. The Reddit user shares that she has a 10-year-old daughter from a previous relationship and a 13-year-old step-daughter from her current marriage with her husband. The woman notes that her step-daughter has "been the near-perfect child" and has never "needed to be punished" for bad behavior, "until recently." "She had a problem with another girl (13f) at school. The other girl made fun of my stepdaughter's 'lesbian' mom and my stepdaughter made fun of the other girl's 'poor' mom," the user explains The poster says the other parents grounded their daughter for three weeks, and her husband has been trying to figure out how to discipline their teenager. 'My husband wanted his daughter's punishment to match the crime. Since his daughter makes fun of the other girl's financial situation, my husband wants his daughter to feel like how it is to be extremely poor,' the woman wrote in a post on June 2, noting that the "other family isn't extremely poor, by the way." "His plan for his daughter is to go to school with poor hygiene, for three days," she adds. "No shower, no deodorant, no brushing of teeth, and reused clothes. I told him if he goes through with this plan, I will divorce him.' Many people in the comments were quick to question his thought process, noting that 'humiliation is not punishment, it's cruelty." 'Why not make her volunteer at a shelter/food bank?' another user questioned, which the poster said she would "suggest" to her husband. "Either that and/or grounding his stepdaughter for 3 weeks," the poster replied. "I still remember one day in high school when I forgot to wear deodorant and I had gym. I'm 41, and I still remember. I can't imagine also having no shower, bad breath, and reusing clothes.' Other people shared their own experiences growing up financially unstable, and implored the poster to question her husband's "prejudices." " husband is way off base. Offensively so," one user wrote. "Poor ≠ poor hygiene. He should really explore his own internal biases." 'Being poor doesn't automatically equal lack of hygiene, and using that as a punishment is diabolical for a myriad of reasons, instead of humiliating his kid, why not have her volunteer some of her time helping the people she's mocked? That would be a much more useful and valuable form of 'punishment,'' another person added. 'If I was her school nurse and she came to me with that scenario, it would've been my obligation to call CPS. That is child abuse, not educational. This is very disturbing….. Beware,' someone else wrote. In an update to the post, the woman reassured commenters that both her daughter and stepdaughter were "safe." "I'm safe, and I will divorce my husband," she concluded. 'Watched Too Much Fast & Furious:' MK4 Toyota Supra Evades Police on Highway. Then a Trooper Conducts 'Insane' PIT Maneuver
A Toyota Supra MK4 driver attempted to evade Florida police and ended up the subject of a trooper's PIT maneuver. But the internet is more concerned with the judgement of the driver, based on the specs of the vehicle. A Reddit user posted dashcam footage of the incident to the Supra subreddit on June 11. The video shows a Florida Highway Patrol trooper pursuing a black Supra MK4 at a presumably high rate of speed. The trooper catches up to the Supra and performs the PIT maneuver, which sends it spinning across the highway and into a utility pole. A PIT maneuver , or precision immobilization technique, involves striking the rear end of a vehicle to cause it to spin out. Its use is controversial, as it often leads to wrecks like the one that ended with the MK4 Toyota Supra smashed up like an aluminum can. The Redditor who posted it wondered, 'What's the story behind this chase?' Another sarcastically replied, 'Idiot watched too much Fast and Furious .' Others pointed to another r/Supra thread discussing a screenshot of the FHP Tampa's Instagram post regarding the incident. The post includes three photos of the Supra, which was completely destroyed. The caption explains that a trooper attempted to stop the driver for going 93 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. A chase ensued, followed by a crash. Rather miraculously, the driver reportedly walked away from the crash with non-life-threatening injuries and went to a local hospital for treatment. Then He Changes Settings One thing that pretty much everyone across platforms agrees on is that the driver (if what police say is true) made a poor decision with a precious vehicle. "I drive an NA Supra," wrote one Redditor. "There's a reason I don't do stupid things. Why destroy the illusion that all Supras make 1000 horsepower by putting the foot down and showing you only have 150 horsepower? Now everyone will know just how slow my car is. Jerk." The Supra MK4, which Toyota released from 1993-2002, was one of the definitive sports cars of that decade. The fourth generation of the model is known for its power and appearance in the Fast and Furious film series. An Instagram user blamed the police. "You totaled a special car and caught a guy speeding. Almost killed the driver and passenger with the maneuver,' they wrote. 'Good job." 'The junkyard's gonna love this one,' another user joked. This is a rare model of Supra. A person on an MK4 forum claims that there were only about 47,000 ver produced. So it's understandable that some corners of the internet are upset that this one was destroyed in an arguably avoidable crash. Motor1 reached out to Toyota via email for comment.
