Nurul Izzah calls for 13 Sabah state election seats for PKR
JOHOR BAHRU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar has called for the party to be allocated 13 seats to contest in the upcoming Sabah State Election (PRN).
'We need to ask the president (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) to negotiate for us to get 13 seats for the state of Sabah.
'We must ensure our machinery turns out in full force to help campaign in the state election, and may Allah grant us strength. Most importantly, we must win as a movement,' she said during the winding-up session of the president's policy address at the PKR National Congress 2024/2025 here, today.
The congress was attended by Anwar, who is also the Prime Minister, and PKR Advisory Council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as well as the party's leadership lineup.
In her speech, Nurul Izzah also touched on the need for unity among all party members after the elections, besides urging continued efforts in programmes that assist the people.
Meanwhile, when met by reporters after the congress, Nurul Izzah reminded all candidates who contested in the recent party elections to continue upholding the spirit of camaraderie.
'To all who contested, those who won and those who didn't make it this time, whatever the outcome, we must uphold and cherish the spirit of camaraderie, because that is what underpins us. We, in the context of the PKR leadership, want to be watchful and supportive, always reminding one another and holding fast to our principles,' she said.

PKR central leadership council member G Sivamalar said 'Madani' referred to the government's core values – including sustainability, innovation, and compassion – and was not meant to promote any single individual. 'It needs to be stressed that it's 'Madani City', not 'Anwar's City' as cynically claimed by Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan. 'It's shameful to mock a policy built on such principles for political gain,' Sivamalar said in a statement. She added that the project addressed a real need for housing among civil servants, who make up 90% of Putrajaya's population. Sivamalar cited the Auditor-General's Report 2021, which said that nearly 18,000 civil servants were still waiting for government quarters. She said the 41ha Madani City project would offer 10,000 housing units for up to 30,000 people, and was meant to be a walkable city with essential services within a 15-minute radius. She urged critics to stop politicising public welfare and to support meaningful solutions introduced by the government. Yesterday, Wan Saiful warned against using administrative slogans to brand major projects, saying it could lead to losses if there was a change in government. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Madani City project is set for June 26. The township will come with a secondary school, a technical and vocational education and training institution, banks, a government clinic and a mosque, among others. Its first phase, involving around 3,000 residential units and a vertical school, is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

GRS supreme council to hold meeting on potential partners, strategic goals for Sabah election
TUARAN, June 5 — Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Supreme Council will convene a meeting soon to determine the coalition's strategic direction, including decisions on potential partners for the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election. GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the meeting is expected to take place most likely after Aidiladha celebrations. Commenting further, the Sabah Chief Minister said Bung Moktar's statement was merely Umno Sabah's stance. 'We in GRS have not made any decisions yet.
