West Indies Star Cricketer Accused Of Sexual Assault, Rape By 11 Women: Report
An unnamed West Indies men's cricketer has been accused of several counts of sexual assault, sexual harrasment and rape, as per reports in West Indies-based media outlets. According to a video report by Caribbean-based SportsMax TV, the cricketer in question is from Guyana and is a part of the current national team setup. Further information in the video report states that the cricketer has been accused by at least 11 women. However, no charge has been filed as of yet against the cricketer. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has also refused to comment on the matter.
The report appears to have emerged originally from Guyana-based newspaper Kaieteur Sports. The report further contained this revelation:
"I have heard accounts from no fewer than eleven women, one of them a teenager, who allege that they have been sexually assaulted, raped, or subjected to unwanted sexual advances by him."

As per the subsequent video report, there have also allegedly been significant attempts to cover up the player and his actions.
SportsMax TV, which made the video report, reached out to Cricket West Indies asking whether they were aware of the matter, whether there was any investigation in place, and whether there were any attempts to cover-up. This was the response:
"Cricket West Indies is unaware of the circumstances and, therefore, is not in a position to comment at this time," CWI President Kishore Shallow was quoted as saying, in the report.
As per lawyer Nigel Hughes - who was reached out to by one of the alleged victims two years ago - the player was part of the West Indies squad that famously beat Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane in January 2024.
Hughes stated that no charges have been filed against the cricketer by the victims. He also claimed that talk regarding the player's actions died down after he returned to Guyana from the tour of Australia. However, enquiries as recent as a day or two ago have taken place regarding the matter.
Hughes also stated that the cricketer received a "hero's welcome" upon returning to Guyana following the West Indies' victory in Australia a year ago.

NH-74 scam case: ED seizes Rs 24.70 lakh during searches in Uttarakhand, UP
Dehradun: The Enforcement Directorate seized Rs 24.70 lakh and incriminating documents during simultaneous searches at seven locations in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh in a case linked to a Dehradun-based provincial civil service (PCS) officer in the NH-74 scam case, an official said on Friday. D.P. Singh, a senior PCS officer currently working as Executive Director, Doiwala Sugar Mill in Dehradun, faced the searches on Thursday, said an official statement. The ED said D.P. Singh, the then Special Land Acquisition Officer (SLAO), Uttarakhand, while working in the capacity of Competent Authority of Land Acquisition (CALA), entered into conspiracy with Revenue Officer/Officials, Land Consolidation Officer/Officials, farmers/land owners, middlemen and others for misappropriation of the government funds by manipulating the use of land by way of passing backdated orders. This resulted in payment of higher compensation to landowners at non-agriculture rates, as opposed to the legal and expected compensation, said the ED. To achieve his ulterior motives, he resorted to fabrication/forgery by making back-dated entries in revenue records/documents, which were projected as genuine at the time of distributing compensation to landowners against land acquired for the widening of NH-74 and NH-125. This resulted in a loss of Rs 162.5 crore (approx.) to the government treasury, said the federal probe agency. The ED in this case had already attached movable and immovable properties amounting to Rs 43 crore (approx.) from various accused persons. While the investigation is in progress against these officials and landowners, seven Prosecution Complaints have already been filed before the Special Court (PMLA), Dehradun. Earlier last year, the ED attached immovable properties worth Rs 7.89 crore in the form of land situated at Vallah village in Amritsar district, along with movable properties worth Rs 2.40 crore in connection with a case linked to the scam. The ED had initiated the investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) based on an FIR filed by the police. During the investigation, it was revealed that five brothers -- Ajmer Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Gurvail Singh, Sukhwant Singh and Satnam Singh -- managed to get backdated forged orders and subsequently got them entered in the revenue records on a later date in connivance with the revenue officials and middlemen. Based on this, they fraudulently received excess compensation to the tune of Rs 15.73 crore for their land, which was being acquired for the widening of NH-74 at a non-agricultural rate. The ED investigation revealed that this ill-got money was either utilised for purchasing immovable properties in their names or was transferred to their other bank accounts or bank accounts of their relatives.

China removes senior general, naval chief & top scientist in military
The purge of China's powerful defence and security establishment continued as top military officials, including a senior general, chief of navy and a nuclear scientist, were expelled from the national legislature on Friday. General Miao Hua along with Vice Admiral Li Hanjun, chief of staff of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), and Liu Shipeng, deputy chief engineer of China National Nuclear Corporation, have been removed from the National People's Congress (NPC), the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported. Li is the latest of a string of PLA generals and a handful of defence industry executives to have been implicated in a sweeping crackdown in the military, the Post reported. Both have been stripped of their membership of the legislature, the report said. State-run Xinhua news agency reported that the standing committee of the NPC, which concluded its session here on Friday, also voted to remove top General Miao Hua from his position as a member of the Central Military Commission (CMC), the overall high command of the Chinese military, headed by President Xi Jinping. Miao, the youngest general in the Chinese military hierarchy, has been under probe for serious violations of discipline since November last year. He was dismissed from the NPC in April this year. Miao was also director of the Political Work Department of the CMC, a role critical in managing Communist Party ideology and personnel changes within the People's Liberation Army (PLA). His career advanced significantly after Xi assumed power, leading to roles in the Chinese Navy as a political commissar and eventually becoming the PLA's youngest admiral. The defence ministry said Miao was being investigated for suspected serious violations of discipline, a phrase used as a euphemism for corruption. Since he took over power towards the end of 2012, 72-year-old Xi has carried out massive purges in the country's over two-million-strong military, removing or punishing dozens of senior generals for corruption and indiscipline.
