Slain ANC leader Myolisi Magibisela was on a mission to ‘silence' guns

THE killing of ANC convenor of Ward 96 Myolisi Magibisela in Khayelitsha appears to have been well-orchestrated, says ANC Dullah Omar Regional chairperson, Ndithini Tyhido.
Magibisela was shot dead in his Makhaza home on Monday morning in a brazen attack that has sent shockwaves through the Khayelitsha community.
According to reports, residents heard gunshots in the area and upon investigating, saw a white VW Jetta speeding away from the scene. Police were called immediately and responded to the scene, where Magibisela was declared dead on the scene.
Police spokesperson, FC Van Wyk said: 'When community members went outside, they discovered Magibisela lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. An investigation is now underway, but no arrests have been made.'
He said the motive behind the incident forms part of the police investigation.
Tyhido led a delegation of ANC alliance leaders who arrived at the scene, until his body was removed from his home by pathologists. They formed a guard of honour as the body of the late comrade left his home.

The murder of Myolisi Magibisela, the ANC convenor of Ward 96, t has sent shockwaves through the Khayelitsha community.

He said Magibisela had been a long serving member in the area , part of the Khayelitsha Community Policing Forum and the Silencing the Guns campaign.
'I was so emotional when his son came home… for a child to have to experience that. Forensics had not removed the body yet, his son is around 11 or 12 and he forced his way through to the house. The body was in the bedroom. He was screaming, he was distraught.
He said it was as if it was planned because Magibisela was home alone at the time, when the assailants allegedly forced their way into the side door.

Triple fishing tragedy rocks Shelly Point
A tragic accident off the West Coast has claimed the lives of three local fishermen after their vessel capsized near Shelly Point on Friday afternoon. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) confirmed the incident, saying their Mykonos and St Helena Bay stations were activated at 16:11 following eyewitness reports of a man clinging to a capsized fishing boat, with more people feared in the water. An NSRI rescue swimmer joined the search, and together they located and recovered the man's body from the rocky shoreline. All three men were declared deceased and their bodies were handed over to police and the Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. The victims are all believed to be local adult fishermen. Their identities have not yet been released. 'The circumstances that led to the fishing boat capsizing and the time of the incident is not clear,' said Cedric Brown, NSRI Mykonos duty coxswain. 'Police have opened an inquest docket.' The NSRI, emergency services, and police have commended the eyewitness who raised the alarm, as well as the Good Samaritan who bravely entered the surf to assist. 15-year-old learner arrested after stabbing schoolmate in KZN
A 15-year-old learner was arrested after stabbing his schoolmate in KwaMhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), on Thursday, 14 August 2025. Police received a call about a student who was stabbed and needed an ambulance. They immediately rushed to the school and found the victim lying face up with a stab wound on his left chest. The fight commenced after school between the two learners and proceeded to the street next to the school, where the suspect took out a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest. The suspect fled the scene and was traced to his residence, where he was arrested. The knife used to carry out the murder was found in the possession of the suspect's friend, who was taken in for further questioning. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) confirmed the death of the student. Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed to The South African that the cause of the fight is unknown yet. National Dialogue will be in the hands of South Africans
The National Dialogue will take place within communities before the next national convention, Despite concerns that the National Dialogue has been 'hijacked' by the ANC and government, Lindiwe Mazibuko, who is a member of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) has reassured South Africans that the process is citizen-led. Mazibuko delivered the closing address at the end of the first national convention in Pretoria on Saturday. The convention brought members of different sectors together with other stakeholders to discuss the framework of the dialogue process in communities. 'From the outset, we established that citizens will drive this dialogue grounded in our President's commitment to unity. This dialogue is owned by the people,' she said. Tough times ahead for the country Mazibuko said the process of national engagement will not be easy, but she said the EPG will be there to ensure the success of the National Dialogue. Her comments also come as several political parties and legacy foundations have distanced themselves from the dialogue, citing transparency and time frame issues. 'The road ahead will not be easy, our obstacles are deep-rooted and complex, we will have setbacks and we will have disagreements, there may be moments where despair seems more appealing than hope. 'The imminent persons group, which I am proud to be part of, is committed to walking this path with you. 'We will not waiver or abandon our efforts. This dialogue is for the people, and it belongs to you,' she said.
