‘Agal Vilakku' scheme launched to safeguard girls, promote cyber safety in Tamil Nadu
The scheme aims at safeguarding girl students (Classes 9-12) from mental, physical, and social challenges, with a strong focus on cyber safety. The state has allocated `50 lakh to implement the scheme in all higher secondary schools.
Awareness booklets on the issue prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training were distributed to all students on the occasion.
Under the initiative, committees of teachers and students will identify problems faced by girl students and suggest solutions.
Also, sessions will be conducted by teachers trained in career guidance through the District Institute of Education and Training. These teachers will also be given additional training to raise awareness of safe internet use and protection from cyber threats. Psychological counselling will also be provided as part of the programme.
Explaining the sentimental choice of Pudukkottai for the scheme's launch, the minister said it was to honour Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy, a pioneer in women's education and empowerment. Addressing the media, the minister said the scheme emphasises on the safe and responsible use of the internet.

Handloom Day celebrated with fervour across central districts
The 11th edition of the National Handloom Day was celebrated with a host of exhibitions and special programmes on Thursday. In Tiruchi, an exhibition of handloom garments and linen was inaugurated at the Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College by School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in the presence of T. Ravikumar, Assistant Director of Handlooms, Tiruchi, college principal M. Pitchaimani and senior officials. Approximately 15 stalls representing weaving clusters in Tiruchi district participated in the expo. Minister for Higher Education Govi. Chezhiaan launched a special health camp and an exhibition of handloom textiles at the premises of Thirubuvanam Silk Handloom Weavers Cooperative Production and Sale Society, Thanjavur district, in the presence of Kumbakonam MLA K. Anbalagan on Thursday. Welfare assistance worth ₹25 lakh was presented to weavers. A special stamp to mark the day was also released by the Postal Department in the presence of society Deputy Director G. Sankareswari and senior officials. According to an official press release, the Minister gave ₹50,000 each as loan to five weavers under the Mudra Scheme and financial aid of ₹1.86 lakh to four weavers under the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Handlooms Weavers' Savings and Security Scheme. Weaving equipment and tools worth ₹3,600 each was given to five weavers. Over 250 persons benefited from a special health camp organised at the premises of Manamedu Devanga Handloom Weavers Cooperative Production and Sale Society in Manamedu village near Tiruchi. In Karur, V. Senthilbalaji, MLA, inaugurated a sale-cum-expo of handloom goods and presented welfare assistance worth ₹10.84 lakh to 34 weavers, in the presence of District Collector M. Thangavel.

SLAS review held in Cuddalore; minister urges focus on concept-based learning, better outcomes
CUDDALORE: A State-Level Achievement Survey (SLAS) review meeting was held at Krishnasamy Engineering College auditorium in Kumarapuram, Cuddalore, on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in the presence of Cuddalore District Collector Sibi Adithya Senthil Kumar. As part of his visit, the Minister inspected ongoing school infrastructure works at Manjakuppam, including classrooms and separate hostel facilities for boys and girls being built at a cost of Rs 19.33 crore. Addressing the gathering, Poyyamozhi said, 'Various schemes have been launched to ensure all students get quality education in a supportive environment.' He highlighted key initiatives including the Illam Thedi Kalvi scheme, which supported home-based learning during the pandemic, and Ennum Ezhuthum, aimed at improving literacy and numeracy for students up to Class 5.
