ESPN breaks down trade rumors surrounding Falcons TE Kyle Pitts

Yahoo3 days ago

Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts has been the subject of trade rumors over the last few days. With the former No. 4 overall pick entering the final year of his rookie contract, multiple teams have reportedly reached out to the Falcons to check Pitts' availability.
On Friday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Atlanta is seeking at least a Day 2 pick as compensation for the 24-year-old. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler added some additional context on Saturday.

"If Atlanta gets the right kind of a deal for Kyle Pitts, it very well could come together," said Fowler. "I don't think it's a situation where they're aggressively shopping him but it appears, talking to some other teams that think Atlanta is at least open to the possibility and Pitts might be as well."
Fowler went on to explain that while Pitts is open to a trade, he's still loves Atlanta and isn't requesting to be moved.
"I'm told he loves Atlanta," continued Fowler. "This is not a situation where he's requesting a trade. But if he has a chance to go to maybe a better offense where he's more featured -- he's kind of a third or fourth wheel in Atlanta -- could be something that he's open to."
The Falcons probably aren't desperate to move Pitts unless they get an offer they can't refuse. Pitts lived up to massive expectations as a rookie, racking up over 1,000 receiving yards, but he struggled to match that production over the last three seasons.

Tight ends need the ball to make an impact, and Pitts hasn't been featured as much since Matt Ryan was still in Atlanta. The fifth-year tight end failed to develop chemistry with former Falcons quarterbacks Desmond Ridder, Marcus Mariota and Taylor Heinicke.
The 2024 season was supposed to be different for Pitts due to veteran Kirk Cousins taking over at quarterback, but Cousins' production was wildly inconsistent. 2025 might be Pitts' last shot to prove he can be a difference maker on offense.
Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is still high on the young tight end and expects big things from him this season.
"I'm expecting Kyle to take a big jump," said Robinson. "You know, Year 2 two of the system. Year 2 of understanding what we're trying to do offensively. All those things that come with it, so expecting a lot of good things from Kyle. He knows what he needs to work on with the details, some of the fundamentals and techniques."

Pitts has recorded 196 catches for 2,651 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns since entering the league in 2021.

SEC coaches talk scheduling agreement with Big Ten. What UGA AD Josh Brooks thinks of it

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla.—Georgia football fans have savored memorable playoff victories against Big Ten teams Michigan in 2021 and Ohio State in 2022 en route to national titles. Could similar matchups happen in the regular season under a proposed scheduling agreement between the conferences? Advertisement Some SEC coaches emerged from the conference spring meetings on Wednesday May 28 at the Sandestin Hilton saying they would support that. For that to happen, the SEC may need to go to a nine-game schedule, play a Big Ten team and then have two other nonconference opponents. 'I think we'd be open to it in the right scenario,' Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks said. The SEC and Big Ten talked about a scheduling agreement, but SEC commissioner Greg Sankey Wednesday night said called a mandate to play 'incredibly difficult….That's a long road to hoe to get to the end of that.' One issue is some SEC schools have in-state rivalries played annually including Georgia-Georgia Tech, South Carolina-Clemson, Florida-Florida State and Kentucky-Louisville, but other SEC teams don't have an in-state rivalry outside the SEC. Advertisement Georgia in some seasons already plays two power conference schools outside of SEC schedule. 'While I say I'd be open to it, I then take a look at what we have on our schedule and see how it affects it,' Brooks said. 'We do have Florida State, Louisville and other teams lined up. All of that fits into that puzzle.' Some of those nonconference games could have to fall off the schedule if a Big Ten partnership were added. The SEC won four straight national titles from 2019-2022, but hasn't had a team in the last two championship games. 'They've won the last two, and you can't deny that,' South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said. Advertisement Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said an SEC-Big Ten alliance would excite TV executives and fan bases. Pittman said another option besides playing nine SEC games would be to play the Big Ten opponent instead of a ninth SEC game. 'I think the league wants us to go to nine,' he said. 'How are we going to do it? Are we going to go to nine playing ourselves or are we going to go to nine and maybe invite another conference to play?' Said Beamer: 'I'm all for it, but it would be like the Kansas City Chiefs playing the Green Bay Packers for our 18th regular season game and the other teams aren't.' Brother of NFL star commits to Kirby Smart and Georgia football in 2026 recruiting class

Kirby Smart helped Alabama land Minkah Fitzpatrick before he went on to become a five-time Pro Bowl safety in the NFL. Now the Georgia football coach has secured a commitment from his younger brother, Justice Fitzpatrick. Advertisement The 6-foot- 1/2 , 205-pound four-star cornerback from Fort Lauderdale picked the Bulldogs over Texas, Ohio State, Florida and Miami, according to his X account on Tuesday June 3. Smart in 2018 told the recruiting story of Minkah Fitzpatrick to Alabama. Smart and then offensive line coach Mario Cristobal were higher on him than coach Nick Saban. "[Saban] didn't like Minkah at one point," Smart told "That, to me, was just crazy because Mario Cristobal and I were fighting like hell [for Fitzpatrick]. We thought he was such a good kid." Justice Fitzpatrick, who plays for St. Thomas Aquinas, is the nation's No. 47 overall prospect and No. 3 cornerback. Advertisement Minkah Fitzpatrick played at Alabama from 2015-2017, winning the Jim Thorpe Award as nation's top defensive back in his last season. He was a Dolphins first-round pick, but traded from Miami in 2018. He has played with the Steelers since then.
