His body was bruised and there were injuries to his face. The investigation found blood on the washing machine and in other areas of the home.
Troy had eaten some of his mother's oatmeal cream pies and was then threatened with the punishment of being kept inside an oven until he confessed that he ate them.
Texts messages sent by the boy's father were also reviewed. One message in relation to doughnut sticks eaten by Troy said 'I need to get the (locks). I'm going to end up kill(ing) him'.
Troy's adoptive mother has been charged with injury to a child. She pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on September 10.
In a statement, Harris County District Attorney's Office said, Troy 'would have been a fifth grader this year'.
His former teacher, Sheryl Reed told the court in her victim impact statement, that 'now we will never know what he could have become'.
'His future, his dreams, his life—were stolen by someone who was supposed to love, protect, and nurture him,' she said.
'Today a reader, tomorrow a leader. That was always Troy. He loved reading. If he finished early, he'd head straight to our class library. Then he'd go right back to share those stories with classmates, always lifting others up with the joy he carried.
'But Troy wasn't just leading his classmates—he led me, too. He led me to become a better teacher, a better mentor, and a better person. His energy, his smile, and his love for learning reminded me daily why I chose this path.' Tributes are flowing for the Troy on social media Credit: Harris County District Attorney' / supplied
Tributes are flowing for the boy, with those who knew him taking to social media to express their grief.
'I had the privilege of meeting Troy on several occasions, This really breaks my heart, such handsome young man,' one Instagram user wrote.
'This story made me weep. This beautiful child did not deserve this abuse or to have his life taken. I'm so sorry, Troy,' another wrote.

A group of alleged motorcycle hoons have been busted by covert police in Victoria after posting their antics online. (Nine) Police allege the group used products on their boots to throw sparks onto the road, obstructing other motorists. They also allegedly covered their number plates to avoid tolls and detection. Senior Constable Adam Mizzi said police have a zero-tolerance approach to the behaviour. "One wrong move, or one car not seeing them, could be catastrophic," he said. Police allege the group used products on their boots to throw sparks onto the road, obstructing other motorists. (Nine) Police have disbanded the group, making several arrests and laying a string of charges. A 24-year-old Caroline Springs man dodged cameras when approached by 9News, while a second man refused to answer questions by responding "no comment". "I don't feel safe being recorded," he said. At least 38 people have died in motorcycle accidents on Victoria roads this year, with a further 495 riders seriously injured. Greensborough highway patrol is cracking down on dangerous riding one speedster at a time. Mizzi said he does not want to attend the homes of families to tell them their loved one has been killed or seriously injured. "All just for a couple just for a couple of extra likes on Instagram," he said. Despite the arrests, the group continues to post videos online. But Mizzi said breaking the rules will likely catch up to them. "It could be six months down the track, but we will be knocking on your door," he said. ‘The souls I have taken': Baby-faced gangster carried heart on his sleeve
Most people save their credentials for their résumé, but slain underworld player Athan Boursinos carried his criminal bona fides etched on his skin for all to see. 'The souls I have taken will never haunt me, only the ones I haven't,' a tattoo on the left side of the 21-year-old's neck read. The quote, which was also tattooed on the chest of murdered Sydney gangster Hamad 'the Executioner' Assaad, held a near prophetic meaning for Boursinos, who was gunned down in a laneway behind his family home in Melbourne's outer north on Thursday morning. He was leaving his home to appear in court over a series of weapons, theft and driving charges. Etched on his body were also insignias of criminal organisations from around the world. 'Omerta', the word used to describe the code of silence of criminal groups like the mafia, was tattooed on his torso, wedged between a blade and a large cross running down his chest. One photograph shows a teardrop outlined underneath one of Boursinos' eyes, a symbol commonly associated with American gang and prison culture that can represent time served behind bars, acts of violence, loss or the taking of a life. The baby-faced gangster also carried his heart on his sleeve – the name of his fiancee, Sanaria Rofael, was tattooed in big red capital letters on his upper arm. A grieving Rofael took to social media on Friday to pay tribute to Boursinos, 'the best soul' and 'angel', through a series of photographs and videos shared on her Instagram stories.
