Kozhikode:
CPM
state secretary M V Govindan launched a scathing attack on Thalassery archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany, describing him as someone who is very opportunistic in his stance.
Speaking at a party function in Kannur on Monday, Govindan said there wouldn't be anyone else who displays opportunism so strongly.
Govindan said that when nuns were arrested in Chhattisgarh, Pamplany had spoken against the BJP, but once the nuns were granted bail, he went on to praise Union home minister Amit Shah and others.
"Priests even went to the RSS office with cakes to curry flavour," he added.
DYFI state secretary V K Sanoj too had criticized Pamplany the other day saying that people like him could meet the fate of Niemoller, the German pastor who initially supported Hitler but was later imprisoned for opposing his regime.

'Tragic chapter': PM Modi observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

Observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid a tribute to the people who endured the "upheaval and pain" of the Partition of India. Sharing an X post, PM Modi called the Partition a "tragic chapter" of Indian history. "India observes #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, remembering the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during that tragic chapter of our history. It is also a day to honour their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh," PM Modi wrote. Giving a message on unity, he urged the public to strengthen the harmony in the country. The Prime Minister wrote, "Many of those affected went on to rebuild their lives and achieve remarkable milestones. This day is also a reminder of our enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together." Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to the people who endured "horrific consequences" following the partition of India in 1947. As India observes the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Rajnath Singh recalled the hatred and violence and called Partition a "painful chapter". Sharing an X post, the Union Minister wrote, "On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, recalling that painful chapter of 1947, I pay tribute to all those brothers and sisters who had to endure the horrific consequences of hatred and violence following India's partition and witnessed the loss of life and property." He added that the government is committed to strengthening social harmony in the country. "Even today, every Indian feels empathy for those affected families. We are fully committed to further strengthening social harmony in the country," he wrote. Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the millions affected by the Partition in 1947, remembering the pain, violence, and displacement it caused. On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Shah condemned the division of the nation and expressed heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives during this tragic period. In a post on X, Shah wrote, "#PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay is a day to express condolences by remembering the pain of those who suffered due to the partition of the country and its tragedy. On this day, the Congress party divided the nation into pieces, hurting the pride of Mother India. The partition led to violence, exploitation, and atrocities, and millions of people endured displacement." "I offer my heartfelt tribute to all those people. The country will never forget the history and pain of the partition. I offer my tribute to those who lost their lives in this horror of the partition," the post read. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister and BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda called for national unity and "give a befitting reply to anti-national forces." Paying tribute to millions who while "enduring agony of displacement", sacrificed their lives, the senior BJP leader said in a post on X, "The dark day of 1947 reminds us of that cruel event when the citizens of the nation suffered the merciless pain of migration and, enduring inhuman torture, lost their homes, property, and lives." He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the tradition of observing this day to "keep the memory of the nation's partition alive is an important step toward nation-building." "Come, on this day, let us all citizens unite to pledge to maintain the unity and integrity of the nation and give a befitting reply to anti-national forces," the post added, calling for national unity. On August 14, India observes 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' to pay tribute to those who lost their lives and were displaced during the country's partition in 1947. India attained its freedom from British rule on 15th August, 1947. Independence Day, which is celebrated on 15th August every year, is a joyous and proud occasion for any nation; however, with the sweetness of freedom came also the trauma of partition. The birth of the newly independent Indian nation was accompanied by violent pangs of partition that left permanent scars on millions of Indians. The partition caused amongst the largest migrations in human history affecting about 20 million people. Millions of families had to abandon their ancestral villages/towns/cities and were forced to find a new life as refugees. The pain and violence of partition has remained deeply etched in the nation's memory. While celebrating our Independence, a grateful nation also salutes those sons and daughters of our beloved motherland who had to sacrifice their lives in the frenzy of violence. More kidneys needed for Rolls Royce: DMK MLA's remark sparks BJP, AIADMK outrage

Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai and AIADMK General Secretary Edapadi K Palanisamy have strongly condemned DMK Manachanallur MLA Kathiravan for his controversial remarks regarding a kidney-stealing shared a video on X where Kathiravan, whose hospitals are under investigation for alleged kidney smuggling, said, 'After doctor fee and medical expenses, I may get Rs 2 to 3 lakh. Do you know the cost of my father's Rolls Royce car? It is 14.5 crore. The total operation I've done is 252. With Rs 2 lakh as profit, when will I buy Rolls Royce? I could have only bought it if I had removed all the kidneys from Thirupathur people. My only worry is that no one spoke about me saving 252 lives. No one is speaking about it.'Here is Manachanallur DMK MLA Thiru Kathiravan, boasting without a video, he compares the profit from illegal kidney operations at his Trichy hospital to the 14.5 crore price of his father's Rolls-Royce, admitting he'd need to remove all the kidneys in Thirupattur to (@annamalai_k) August 13, 2025advertisementReacting to the video, Annamalai said, 'This is not a joke. Poor weavers from Namakkal were lured, their kidneys stolen, and the MLA himself admits his hospital made at least Rs 7.5 crore from this trade. Yet, the DMK government has taken no concrete action. Has their functionary Dravida Anandan, the middleman in this kidney theft racket, even been arrested?' Edapadi K Palanisamy advised the public against visiting clinics run by DMK members. 'Don't even visit clinics run by DMK men even by mistake. You may lose your kidney. A group is prevailing which shows money to poor and is stealing organs. DMK government itself constituted a committee which investigated and discovered kidney stealing in a hospital belonging to DMK MLA. Was there action taken? NO,' he said, adding that only the license for organ transplant in the hospital was cancelled, with no arrests made.'The MLA says that for buying a Rolls Royce car, he might have to remove people's kidneys. His car is worth Rs 12 crore. He has admitted how many kidneys he needs to steal to buy the car, which is evident from the speech,' Edapadi claimed.- EndsTune InMust Watch IN THIS STORY#Tamil Nadu

DMK allies to boycott governor's Independence Day reception

CHENNAI: The Congress, CPM, CPI, Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) have announced they will boycott the 'At home' reception to be hosted by Governor RN Ravi on the Independence Day. TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai, in a statement, said his party is boycotting the reception, protesting the anti-Tamil attitude of the governor, and condemning him for forwarding the Bill on Kalaignar University to the President. VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan said the party has been boycotting the reception, protesting the successive governors' activities against state autonomy and the two-language policy, besides attempting to saffronise the antiquities of Tamil Nadu. CPM state secretary P Shanmugam said ever since assuming office, Ravi has been acting against federal principles and the interests of Tamils, besides the Constitution. Even after the SC defined the powers of the governors, Ravi has continued with his stance. CPI state secretary R Mutharasan expressed similar views. MMK president MH Jawahirullah said the governor has been clashing with the popular government in TN for unnecessary reasons, and hence, the party has decided to boycott the reception.
