Entry banned for palkhi darshan from Dive Ghat in Pune
The administration has issued orders restricting access to the ghat area, especially the top section, where large crowds typically gather to witness the palkhi's passage.
After two days of halt in the city, Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi will start their journey from Pune city towards Pandharpur via Dive Ghat on Sunday morning.
Rajkumar Shinde, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Zone 5, said, 'Every year thousands of devotees gather at Dive Ghat. As road work is going on by the National Highways of India (NHAI) and the weather department has issued a heavy rainfall alert to Pune and ghat region for Sunday, we have restricted entry.'
According to Shinde, a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 has been issued and violators will face legal action.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate with the restrictions and opt for alternate arrangements to follow the palkhi procession through designated areas or digital platforms.
Every year, lakhs of devotees participate in the wari tradition, walking alongside the palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj en route to Pandharpur. Dive Ghat, due to its elevated terrain and scenic view, had become a popular spot for locals to view the procession — often leading to traffic jams, overcrowding, and security concerns.

FASTag annual pass: Over 5 lakh users sign up in 4 days; Tamil Nadu leads with maximum number of purchases
The newly launched FASTag Annual Pass has seen a remarkable response, crossing the landmark figure of five lakh users across the country within just four days, an official statement said on Monday. Introduced on Independence Day, the pass allows non-commercial vehicle users to make a one-time payment of Rs 3,000 for one year's validity or 200 toll plaza crossings. It is applicable at about 1,150 toll booths on National Highways and expressways, making travel more convenient and economical for road users. Tamil Nadu led with the highest number of annual pass purchases in the first four days, followed by Karnataka and Haryana, PTI reported. The statement further added that most transactions through the annual pass were recorded at toll plazas in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the enthusiasm was visible from day one. Till 7 pm on the first day of implementation, around 1.4 lakh users purchased and activated the annual pass and around 1.39 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plazas, the ministry's statement noted, as cited by ANI. The pass can be activated within two hours of making the one-time payment through the Rajmargyatra App or the NHAI website. Users also receive SMS alerts confirming zero deduction of toll fee. Officials from NHAI and nodal officers have been deployed at toll plazas to ensure a smooth travel experience, while the 1033 National Highway Helpline has been strengthened with over 100 additional executives to handle user grievances. Around 20,000 to 25,000 concurrent users are logging into the Rajmargyatra App at any given time, reflecting the strong demand for the service. NHAI said it is also addressing user queries through multiple channels. With FASTag already having a penetration rate of nearly 98% and more than eight crore users across the country, authorities see the annual pass as another milestone in electronic toll collection . NHAI sells over 5 lakh annual FASTag passes in four days; Tamil Nadu has most users
Introduction of annual pass arrangement has also increased the number of Rajmarg Yatra mobile application users. One can purchase the pass through the app. 'It has reached rank #23 in Google's Playstore ranking overall and #2 in travel category with over 15 lakh downloads and has a rating of 4.5 stars. The app has also achieved a milestone to become top government app within four days of launch of FASTag Annual Pass,' official added. The FASTag Annual Pass facility is valid for about 1,150 toll plazas on National Highways and National Expressways. On the first of its launch, nearly 1.4 lakh users purchased annual FASTag passes on August 15 and around 1.39 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plazas on the same day. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials have been appointed as nodal officers at each toll plaza to ensure a smooth travel experience for the pass users. Also, to address the grievances of pass users, 1033 National Highway Helpline has been further strengthened with the addition of over 100 executives. Providing a seamless and economical travel option to the National Highway users, the FASTag Annual Pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through one-time fee payment of Rs 3,000 for one year validity or 200 toll plaza crossings. The FASTag Annual Pass is applicable for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag and gets activated within two hours of the one-time fee payment through Rajmarg Yatra App or NHAI website.

Seamless Highways: 5 Lakh Users Switch To FASTag Annual Pass In 4 Days
The pass, meant only for non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans, allows up to 200 trips on national highways and is valid for one year. The new Rs 3,000 FASTag Annual Pass has seen a smooth start, with more than five lakh subscriptions in just four days since its August 15 launch. More than one lakh users are opting for the scheme daily on average. The pass, meant only for non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans, allows up to 200 trips on national highways and is valid for one year. In a post on social media platform X, the NHAI shared the update saying that the national highway and expressway users can opt for the pass by downloading the Rajmargyatra app or visiting to activate it on the existing FASTag cards. 'The FASTag has reached yet another milestone in India's journey towards seamless, technology-driven mobility. With over 5 lakh FASTag Based Annual Pass users onboarded within four days of launch…," it says. This initiative is transforming National Highway/National Expressway travel by providing commuters with a faster, convenient and efficient tolling experience, the post reads. On the first day of the launch by 7 pm, over 1.4 lakh users opted for the pass and 1.39 lakh transitions were recorded. Promoting the scheme, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that users can say goodbye to toll hassles with the new FASTag based Annual Pass. 'Just Rs 3,000 for one year or up to 200 crossings – seamless, smart, and stress-free travel on highways. No more frequent top-ups, just smooth rides ahead," he posted on X. While currently these passes are only for the national highway and expressway, Gadkari last month had assured that his ministry will offer full technical support to states willing to implement the new Rs 3,000 annual FASTag pass on state highways and expressways. A link for activation and renewal will be available on the Rajmarg Yatra App, and on the websites of NHAI and MoRTH. With a 98 per cent adoption rate and over 8 crore users, FASTag has already transformed toll collection across India. This move follows another key reform from last year, under which vehicles without FASTag affixed to windshields are charged double the toll — a step aimed at ensuring smoother operations at toll booths. The Annual Pass will be activated only after verifying the eligibility of the vehicle and the associated FASTag. Activation is allowed only if the FASTag is properly affixed to the registered vehicle's windshield. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
