TORONTO, Aug. 14, 2025 /CNW/ - Today, Global announced premiere dates for its fall 2025 schedule filled with exciting series debuts, star-studded top 20 returning programs and something for all viewers every night of the week. Airing for the first time ever on Global, the fall season kicks off with the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday, September 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, celebrating the best in music and entertainment. Then, ahead of what promises to be an iconic 50 th season celebration in the spring, Canada's #1 reality series, Survivor, is back for Season 49 starting Wednesday, September 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT with a special two-hour premiere (followed by weekly 90-minute episodes). Fresh off celebrating its own historic 50 th season, Canada's #1 show in late night, Saturday Night Live, returns Saturday, October 4 at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 PT. Next, top 5 blockbuster hit 9-1-1 returns for a ninth season on Thursday, October 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT with more edge-of-your-seat excitement.
Global's new slate of shows debut during the network's official fall "Premiere Week", starting with workplace comedy DMV on Monday, October 13 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT starring a brilliant and hilarious ensemble cast including Harriet Dyer, Tim Meadows, Tony Cavalero, Molly Kearney, Gigi Zumbado and Alex Tarrant. Then, Friday nights heat up with the launch of Sheriff Country Friday, October 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT (moves to 8 p.m. ET/PT starting Friday, October 24) starring Morena Baccarin in an expansion of the Fire Country universe. Beginning in September, Global's hits and fan favourites are back with more new seasons this fall including, Canadian-made Murder in a Small Town starring Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk, and Oscar ® winner Marcia Gay Harden joining the cast, followed by Doc starring Molly Parker with Emmy ® winner Felicity Huffman joining the cast, both returning for sophomore seasons, premiering Tuesday, September 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and 9 p.m. ET/PT respectively. Award-winning comedy series Abbott Elementary is back for a fifth season starting Wednesday, October 1 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. Then, fans of the NCIS verse will rejoice this fall when, for the first time, Tuesday nights feature NCIS, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney back-to-back-to-back starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT on October 14. But what if the whole gang was a collection of closeted and confused queer teens just trying to find love, and themselves, in this crazy world of scheming adults who dress up like monsters? Article content Article content That's the question at the heart of DMV, written by Logan Stefura and directed by Jaquelin Walters. The play itself follows Daphne taking Velma on a mysterious nighttime drive in the Scooby van when they suddenly hit a deer standing in the road. What follows is a unique twist on the 'road trip gone wrong' trope, where the two plucky leads try to make the most out of a horrible situation and end up wrestling with their unspoken desire for each other. Article content Article content At a glance, it may seem like just another tired fanfiction that places queer identities on non-queer characters (Fred and Scooby, in this case). DMV manages to move beyond those well-tread ideas to explore themes of co-dependence, radical acceptance, and unyielding faith in your chosen family. Article content The only major negative came from the production side. The performers weren't using microphones, which made it hard to hear them over the 'van radio' music playing through the theatre's speakers. Article content If you're looking for a lighthearted play with recognizable characters, DMV might be the perfect fit. The plot cleverly reverses audience expectations to freshen up the usual Scooby-Doo story beats, and the performances were heartfelt and earnest, adorably corny without ever veering into parody.

Davidson's ex-fiance Ariana Grande didn't help matters when she joked in a since-deleted tweet that the comedian is 'like 10 inches?' in response to a fan asking about the length of her track, 'Pete Davidson' on her album 'Sweetener.' The King of Staten Island star reflected on how his relationship with Grande spilled into his work on SNL . He noted that while the 'show as a whole' loved how the relationship brought more viewers to the series, it was 'annoying for the cast.' 'I was embarrassed by it because … no one talked about any work I was doing,' he said on the morning show. 'They were just like, 'Oh, that's the f*** stick.' And that hurt so much.' Charlamagne challenged Davidson's claims of discomfort, saying, 'You was banging a lot of hot chicks and you had a 10-inch penis,' to which the Pickup actor fired back, 'On paper, that sounds great. But it's embarrassing.' The 31-year-old continued: 'Because it's Hollywood — everybody f***s everyone. Everyone dates everyone. Why are they focusing on me? LL Cool J takes the mic for the 2025 MTV VMAs, where Lady Gaga rules nominations
LOS ANGELES (AP) — LL Cool J has snagged wins, co-hosted and performed atop the MTV Video Music Awards stage. Now, the Grammy-winning rapper-actor-author is going solo to host the 2025 awards ceremony. He's retaking the stage, this time without Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow, with whom he co-hosted in 2022, the VMAs announced Thursday. He's also up for the best hip hop award for his single 'Murdergram Deux' featuring Eminem. The single is part of his most recent album, 'THE FORCE,' which released in September and was his first album in 11 years. LL Cool J is a longtime champion of the VMAs, having won his first Moon Person in 1991. He became the first rapper to receive the Video Vanguard Award, in 1997. He also performed in an all-star tribute to hip-hop's 50th anniversary in 2023 and a celebration for Def Jam Records' 40th anniversary last year.
