PETALING JAYA: Police will detain popular Kelantan singer Eda Ezrin, whose real name is Wan Norshaheeda Azlin Wan Ismail, 30, her husband, and four other as soon as they enter Rantau Panjang, Kelantan on Thursday (Aug 7) afternoon.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the individuals will be held for questioning purposes, reported Sinar Harian.
"We have already deployed officers for this action.
"However, two of the six individuals who entered Thailand illegally will be arrested under Section 5 (2) of the Immigration Act 1958/63," he said when contacted by reporters on Thursday.
The two individuals are Eridieka Mohd Noor, 33, and Zuhaira Nasrin, 26.
Eda Ezrin, her husband, Mohd Affendi Ahmad, 35, along with Mohamad Alif Deraman, 33, and Nur Aida Mamat, 33, will be detained for the purpose of recording statements.
Previously, Sinar Harian reported that Eda Ezrin, along with her husband and four friends, were expected to arrive at the Sungai Golok police station here this afternoon.
However, all of them must first go to the police station and then to the Golok Immigration Detention Depot for documentation before being allowed to return to Kelantan.
According to the Director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the action will be carried out by NCID Kelantan.
All individuals will have their statements recorded, and urine samples will also be taken for screening.
Earlier, Eda Ezrin, her husband, and four friends were released from custody at the Narathiwat Provincial Central Prison on Wednesday.
Their release was made after the court rejected the prosecutor's application to extend the appeal period for the sixth time on Wednesday.
The six accused were previously sentenced to six months in jail and fined RM526 (4,000 Thai baht) after pleading guilty to another charge of consuming the Yaba pills.

Malaysian embassy assures support for nationals injured in Bangkok fire attack

BANGKOK (Bernama): The Embassy of Malaysia in Thailand has assured the families of two Malaysian tourists who were set on fire here on Thursday that it will closely monitor their conditions. The Malaysian Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Thailand, Bong Yik Jui, said both victims remain in stable condition despite being warded in the intensive care unit. Bong said Gan Xiao Zhen, 27, sustained second-degree burns over 36 per cent of her body, including her face, chest and arm, while Ong Yik Leong, 26, suffered second-degree burns to his upper body, both front and back. "Whether the family members are here or have returned to Malaysia, the embassy will continue to monitor the victims' progress closely with the hospital,' he told Bernama when met at the Police General Hospital here on Saturday. The two Malaysians, Gan and her boyfriend Ong, were attacked by an unemployed man who allegedly doused them with thinner before setting them alight near a shopping mall on Ratchadamri Road at around 10 pm on Thursday. Meanwhile, during a briefing session with the victims' family members on Saturday, Assistant Permanent Secretary of the Tourism and Sports Ministry, Seksun Ngawsuwan, said the Thai government would allocate a specific sum to assist with the victims' medical expenses. "We will assist the family members as much as possible to ensure that the recovery process proceeds smoothly,' he said. He added that both victims were expected to require about a month of treatment in Thailand to ensure their wounds healed properly and without infection. When asked when the victims could be transferred back to Malaysia, Seksun said it would depend on the doctors' observations and recommendations. "I know it is a challenge for the family members to stay here and care for their loved ones. However, until they are medically fit, it is too risky to transfer them back to Malaysia,' he said. On Friday, Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong expressed his regret over the incident involving the two Malaysian tourists. Sorawong said his ministry was concerned over the matter and had instructed all subordinate agencies, particularly the Tourist Police and security agencies, to urgently provide assistance and close supervision, while also strengthening security measures to build confidence among all tourists visiting Thailand. - Bernama

Families of Malaysian tourists burned in Bangkok urge swift transfer home

BANGKOK: The families of two Malaysian tourists who were set on fire here on Thursday (Aug 7) have requested the Thai authorities to allow them to be transferred back to Malaysia as soon as they are medically fit. The two Malaysians, identified as Gan Xiao Zhen, 27, and her boyfriend Ong Yik Leong, 26, were attacked by an unemployed man who allegedly threw thinner on them before setting them on fire near a shopping mall on Ratchadamri Road at around 10pm on Thursday. Gan Kin In, 80, said his daughter had arrived in Bangkok on Wednesday (Aug 6) for a holiday, just a day before the incident occurred. "My heart felt uneasy when Xiao Zhen told me a week ago that she was planning to come to Thailand for a holiday with her boyfriend. "There have been too many incidents happening in Thailand this year, and I did not feel this was the right time to travel here. "But Xiao Zhen convinced me that it was safe," he told Bernama when met at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital on Saturday (Aug 9). He said both families had requested a medical report on the victims' current condition during a short briefing with Thai authorities and hospital medical staff. Kin In added that the families hoped the victims could be transferred back to Malaysia as soon as possible due to accommodation constraints in a foreign country. "We just arrived in Bangkok this afternoon, and the Thai authorities arranged the briefing and visits for us. Apart from that, we also hope a medical report can be provided so that we can consult our own doctors in Malaysia regarding their current condition or any possibility of transferring them back soon," he said. He said Xiao Zhen, who was admitted to the Burn Unit, suffered 36% second-degree burns to her face, chest and arm. "She is conscious, in a stable condition, and communicates by writing. The doctor informed us she might need around one month to recover," he said. Meanwhile, Yik Leong, who was treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Police General Hospital, was also in a stable condition and not facing any life-threatening injuries. On Thursday, Xiao Zhen and Yik Leong were set on fire by a 30-year-old man from Sa Kaeo province, who was later detained by members of the public at the scene before being handed over to the police. – Bernama
