RANCHI: The recent police encounter of ex-BJP leader Surya Hansda, who had also contested four Assembly polls, has sparked controversy in Jharkhand politics. 'The way some police officers in this government are themselves involved in criminal activities by giving shelter and protection to criminals, the leaders in power and opposition and their allies are also facing threat to their lives every day, besides the common people,' said Marandi. Marandi claimed that Hansda was not killed in a police encounter, but murdered by 'cowards in uniform' who feared his activism could mobilise tribals to demand their rights and resources. 'False cases, harassment and constant pressure have become the government's standard way of dealing with protestors,' Marandi said. Hansda's wife and mother have repeatedly accused the police of deliberate murder and they demanded a CBI inquiry; if the Chief Minister Hemant Soren fears CBI, then let a sitting High Court judge lead the probe, he added.

Dy CM threatens legal action against Tejashwi over ‘false allegations'
Patna: The ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and RJD intensified on Wednesday, with deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha lashing out at the opposition over allegations related to the voter list revision and his educational qualifications. He also threatened legal action against those who made false allegations against him. Describing himself as the Hanuman of NDA, Sinha said, "I will not let the alliance suffer at any cost. The time has come to teach a lesson to the sons of Shakuni and Duryodhana. The answer will be given in the language they want." Sinha said the BJP has fought against RJD chief Lalu Prasad and will now fight against his son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav . "I fought against your father and now will fight against you, too," he challenged Tejashwi. Tejashwi had alleged that Sinha was a voter in his constituency Lakhisarai and as well as in Patna with different dates of birth mentioned. Sinha clarified that his name has been removed from the voter list in Patna and showed his degrees to prove his age as 58. Sinha alleged that those who kept giving jobs by taking money and land were raising questions on his educational degree. "I have both the degrees. NDA state chiefs meet in Gaya ahead of PM visit
Gaya: The ruling NDA is making all efforts to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Gaya visit on Aug 22 a grand success. In view of this, the state chiefs of all NDA constituents — BJP president Dilip Jaiswal, his JD(U) counterpart Umesh Singh Kushwaha, LJP(Ram Vilas)'s Raju Tiwari, HAM's Anil Kumar and RLM's Madan Chaudhary — met in Gaya on Wednesday. The PM will address a public meeting on the sprawling Magadh University campus, less than 2km to the west of Gautam Buddha's seat of enlightenment. Keeping in mind the security requirements, some trees inside the university campus have either been felled or pruned. At the NDA meeting, the BJP state chief, in particular, referred to the initiative taken by the Union govt at PM Modi's behest to conserve and promote Buddhist heritage sites and develop the religious circuit under the public-private-partnership mode.
